Usernames, unless it's a new/changed one. I have post layouts turned off, and I don't visit often enough to recognize avatars (most likely). Which means it's mostly just an anonymous blob of people with a few names that I have seen before here and there.

I realize this may come off as arrogant, but that's just how it is. I used to visit this place (or community, but this was when it was called Acmlm's. It might not be the same community anymore, perhaps more like a.. newer incarnation with fragments of the old. ).. uh, to long parantheses.

Anyway, I used to visit this community more frequently in the past, and make a few posts here and there on a daily basis. Of course, I don't know if I ever contributed to anything worthwhile (probably not), but atleast I was there.

90 % chance of cyclone formation within the next 48 hours.

And Danielle is expected to be an extratropical (or post-tropical as they now call it, I'm not sure if that is the same thing..) storm (60 mph/26,8 m/s) between Iceland and southern Greenland on Friday. That is what I find the most interesting. Of course, that far ahead in time, things are pretty uncertain, but it's still at 55 %. Whatever happens, I'll be watching that one, just to see where it goes.

Rant: (you can ignore this) And it is always 'annoying' to have to convert from mph to m/s, or fahrenheit to celsius, just to get numbers that make sense to me. Americans, please catch up with the rest of us and use the SI unit system. Thank you...

Now they're saying Danielle will take a path closer to Ireland, before doing a pretty sharp turn towards southern Greenland. If it goes like this, it will be some more rain for the Greenland ice sheet.

At first, about the time I started paying attention to the hurricane season (some years ago..) I didn't think it was normal for hurricanes to make it to Canada, or as cyclones as far across the ocean as almost making it to Europe. I think it was in 2005 that one cyclone almost made it to Iceland as a category 1 hurricane. (Maria, 2005.) It had lost it's tropical characteristics by that time, though, and re-intensification here was due to merging with another low. Still, I find these events greatly fascinating.

Tropical Storm Fiona is now formed, and it's current forecast direction aims at North/South Carolina. It is not forecast to reach hurricane intensity (yet), only to remain as a TS until Saturday.

Danielle is now weakened to a tropical storm, and is expected to be gone by Thursday.

Here are some interesting maps showing some forecasted routes of Earl, showing some of the uncertainty in these models. (The images labeled 'Computer Models' and 'Ensemble Models'). The Ensemble Models forecasts shows it potentially going over the eastern parts of Canada to, well... the Canary Islands. Of course, the areas where most of the purple paths bundle together (or the white path) are the most likely ones, and the Canary Islands track is just a freak outlier.

Heh, and just as I wrote this, they announced on NRK (Norwegian National Broadcasting) that Earl was updated to a Category 3. Not quite updated.

I'm.. pretty selfish. I mostly adhere to rules, because it benefits me ("avoiding punishment"), though, I do not see the problem of breaking a few rules if it can benefit me, and at the same time not cause harm to innocents. That is, people or characters that have not done anything deserving any kind of punishment. I sort of believe in an "eye for an eye" as well..

Probably closest to Chaotic Neutral, or Neutral Evil. (I did not vote.)

Posted on 09-24-10 02:47:55 PM, in Happy fall! (last edited by LizardKing at 09-24-10 11:51 AM) Link
There is definately fall here. It usually begins in september/october, and lasts until... april. By which it is spring for a few weeks, and then turns into summer (most commonly during may), which usually lasts until around mid-september. For being in Norway, this place doesn't have much winter (I heard that on average winter happens every four years, or so.)

It might be true, I have only been living here (here being southern Norways west coast) since august 2006 (what would've been four winters), and I have only seen real winter once. January and February of this year were exceptionally cold for this part of the country, with temperatures around -10/12 degrees Celsius. Usually they're almost always on the plus side of the scale, hence why this place has no real winter, by my definitions.

Temperature here right now is about 12 degrees Celsius. That falls within my definition of 'autumn'. And some trees have started to turn yellow as well, but the most striking feature is that it has begun to rain. For this weekend though, forecast is really good, with sun pretty much all the time, so I'll be sure to enjoy that with hiking in the mountains tomorrow. Gotta enjoy the fine weather when you can, because this town is the rain capitol of Norway.

Posted on 09-24-10 03:05:13 PM, in Sleep Schedules Link
As I have gained experience being a student, I have started this strict sleep/study/time of schedual, which means I'll go to be at 22:30 on weekdays, and wake up at 6:30 (meaning if I could sleep all the time, I would get 7/8 hours of sleep). I get up this early in order to be able to go to the study halls at university at around 8 o'clock (no longer have classes starting that early, but I still show up, in order to get things done.), sit there + attend lectures until 16:00, and then I'm off! I do this, because I have learned the hard way what it means to fail courses and fall behind. No more excessive partying on weekdays.

Weekends, however, there are still no rules (set by myself), and I can just do whatever the hell I want. And it works, because I am no longer failing courses, and I am actually learning things, and I like it!

So yeah, probably the best part is, I don't have to worry about studying on afternoons or weekends, because by then, I have already done my lot! However, this requires a lot of discipline... and since I'm still only human, I do not always follow this strict schedual, and that is ok, because at the same time, it is important to not burn out completely.. what would I achieve then?

Yeah, this got to be about a little more than just sleep schedual, but as you see, it is not an isolated case. It relates to everything else I do as well.

I'd like to know what the atmosphere looks like on this planet.

If it is continuously heated from one side, and heat is continuously lost from the other, I don't think much life would exist outside the belt between the two zones where the temperature would be at a tolerable level. This planet is very different from the earth!

Ever since I was a small kid, I was always fascinated by power lines, or more specifically, the design of the masts holding the power lines up, and also their placement in the terrain. Especially steep terrain, which you would find in many places around where I grew up.

Also roads, as well. I would sometimes draw maps, where I planned the locations of both roads and electrical power lines, on copies of real, or made-up maps.

But I never did anything with this interest. I did not become a road constructions engineer or etc.

My interest for bad weather took the lead, and so I'm trying to become a meteorologist instead.

Sunny days with the occasional cloud. Like today.

Living in a town where it rains almost all autumn, winter and most of spring (and probably a good deal during summer as well, though I'm rarely here then), sunny days are always welcome.

Cloudy days (without rain) are also not so bad, but the sunny ones feel much better. Especially now, as days are also getting brighter because the sun will stay on the sky for longer.
Winters are usually quite dark in Norway, and the further north you get, the darker it gets during winter, whereas during summer it is all opposite. The further north you get, the brighter it gets.. and north of the polar circle, there is pretty much sunlight 24/7 (in summer, and as long as there are no clouds or mountains blocking the way of course.)

I am divided between spring and summer.

Spring because it is the season where everything gets brighter, as the sun climbs higher and higher up on the sky with each passing day. Though this season is usually not particularly warm until it is almost summer.

And summer, because it is the brightest and warmest season, easily.

But autumn and winter and its darkness also has its charm, sure.

Posted on 04-02-11 07:28:52 AM, in I'm Drinking Link
I drink two/three big cups of coffee Monday - Friday. I imagine it helps me study.

I also enjoy my share of beer/whiskey etc. on the weekends. Every now and then I can get somewhat drunk, and I used to think that I would always be like that ( a person that likes getting smashed a bit to much..). But really, it is not that appealing anymore. I think I have began to value the company of other (good) people instead, and be less of an anti-social asshole.

But then again...

Chocolate: I can eat chocolate if it is offered to me as a friendly gesture (I am the kind of person that has a hard time saying no. Not necessarily because I want the stuff, maybe it is just that I don't like to put people down, or something. I don't know.).. but I almost never buy chocolate. It only happens on the rare occasion I go skiing, or before I have exams.

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
