Put "1=" before the template parameter whenever there's an equals sign in the URL (I just did it to that article as an example).

Don't use native APIs, there is literally no advantage.

I've been a proponent of Qt for a while now. Aside from the size, it has a great form/widget editor, really simplified event/message handling (especially since Qt 5 added the ability to connect signals to lambdas in C++11) and generally does a pretty solid job with native look and feel on each platform.

Some of the "reinvented" classes were sort of necessary just because Qt itself predates widespread STL support, but they have other advantages - the entire Qt API is designed to almost never throw exceptions, and the interfaces tend to be nicer / more robust than their STL counterparts.

As for the #include thing, you can just as easily i.e. "#include <QtWidgets>" and get every relevant public header all at once (at the expense of compile time, obviously).

I love Jogeir. It's kind of a shame though that a fair number of his songs are Yoko Kanno-style uncredited cover versions with different titles and no mention of the original artist (some people might call that plagiarism, but that's an awfully strong word, isn't it?)

https://tilde.town/~revenant/ dunno what I'll do with this yet. Probably silly one-off "art" projects (which I assume will include a wee bit of JS, ironically)

Posted on 06-02-16 01:37:49 PM, in Windows 98 Link
The only thing I associate Windows 98 with anymore was my dad's old computer which ran 98 (not OSR2) all the way into 2005 or 2006 or so. Turned into a maintenance nightmare after a while (to the point where, after surviving a few reformats, it was using an installation key that I found on Google since the original had been lost...)

I used to have my own window sitter (written in VB6 based on Kawa's code, I think) which was Poochie from Yoshi's Island. I had some "fun" ideas for it (making it animate, chase the cursor, etc) that never got realized since I pretty much had no idea what I was doing at the time.

Sometimes I get half a mind to rewrite it now that I'd actually know how to, except I might find it kind of obnoxious after a while.

I live less than 10 miles away from where the shooting happened, so needless to say I was pretty shaken when I started to hear the news unfolding last night.

Thankfully found out a few hours ago that nobody that my roommate and I know were there at the time, but a friend of ours frequently volunteers at the nearby hospital and happened to be there when the shooting victims started to arrive. I can't imagine how horrifying and stressful it must have been for anyone involved.

Posted on 07-02-16 04:01:22 PM, in My Perfect Dark soundtrack CD has N64 devkit materials on it (last edited by devin at 07-02-16 04:02:51 PM) Link
Looks like that's part of the same N64 kit mentioned in this thread...

Small runs of mispressed music CDs have definitely happened many times over the years - here's just one of several that Discogs lists. Given the OST was manufactured/published by Nintendo, it's probably the same scenario - i.e. someone just got sloppy when pressing the discs and used the wrong master by mistake. It probably just as likely could have been swapped with any other CD that Nintendo had been pressing at the time.
