See... The translation wasn't finished when its JPN release was put together. They left their progress on-disc intended not accessible due to region lock.

So here's what happens when you play the version on English consoles anyway. Without using that Action Replay code to force it back into Japanese.

There's many unused English save/load messages, menu text (Engrishy in places), FMV subtitles(!), pilot profiles, most notably missing menu/HUD/etc graphics.

Sorry about horrible photography. I don't yet have a backup to emulate.

Good news! Those vague reports around the web ARE true after all. Star Fox Adventures USA version will load Japanese text on a Japan console. Behavior once again prevented by region lock. Recurring theme here.

It's easy to reproduce. Use the 'Force NTSC-J' option in Dolphin.

I haven't yet tested the opposite way (no JPN ISO file), but seems very likely given what I've read.

I don't know. With the menus broken (no race results screen and such), I'd have to play enough to unlock his character profile to see a name. IIRC that means completing the right story mode level at very hard difficulty. Good luck just unlocking those. As the shop to buy chapters I'm pretty sure wouldn't be visible.

Unfortunately now that an ISO has surfaced, there's two problems.

I'm not sure how to get screenshots of English mode. Dolphin defaults to "correct" region for Japanese games. (despite having an option to force English games into NTSC-J console)

The game's Japan version ran awful for me. Crashing the emulator right at the Nintendo/Sega logo on usual settings! 'Interpreter' emulation core lets it run, but so slow to be unusable...

Pretty much every western player and their cat knows about this legendary of all legendary glitches.
However... I could've swore it simply did NOT occur in any way or form with the Japan Green cart I used to own. (zero wild encounters on those tiles)

How can we clear up the matter swift? I don't know if I'm up re-playing a game I can't read again...

Man. Sim Tower would've been the 60mhz Pentium I got to use so long ago. There was some reason it used Windows 3.11 instead of Windows 95, I think stability.

Yeah I'll get to it sooner or later, I can really only mess around in an emulator. I'm not a hacker to just check the tilemap code.

One of those things in 1999 might've have been an earth shattering revelation to certain pokemaniacs. Even fewer care now.

It could be modified. Solder in a lockout chip and replace the back sticker.

Super Game Boy 1 after all was English only, with an identical BIOS for NTSC and PAL. (Nintendo never translated its GUI language)

Notice its SNSP sticker is too small. It doesn't cover nearly as much of the rear indentation the Japanese one did.

Could someone explain in moron-speak how to make the US version activate debug mode, debug menus, map select, etc? I haven't gotten its AR codes to do much of anything with Dolphin.

Well what do you need help with specifically? Are you saying you can't get the AR codes to run at all? Have you used Dolphin before? I can help you if you are a little more specific but for now, I will assume you don't know how to load AR codes in Dolphin.

In the main list of ISOs for dolphin, right click the Wind Waker ISO and select properties. Go to the tab marked AR codes and add/delete whatever codes you want. Close out and then go to options -> config. Make sure that enable cheats is selected under the general tab. If you did this correctly, a list of cheats in yellow text will show up on the screen when you start the game. Also make sure you are using the right region of the code for your ISO(for example, the map select code for the US ISO is 043945B0 8039408C). Does this help you at all? If you are a bit more specific I might be able to help you a little more.


OK with that info I got map select to appear before the game's file select. But I still don't see the debug HUD in-game. And I can't get into map select or any debug menus while playing, as if controller 3/4 won't respond despite being apparently inserted and mapped.

Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
