Yes. That is a thing the game does. It is very much intentional, and just one of the many things that sets the game apart from everything else out there.

You guys are treating this like it's supposed to be Just Another RPG™ and it's not. It is TRYING to be different, to mess with your expectations.

If you really have a problem with this, delete all the save and configuration files and start over (and maybe wipe whatever's in the Steam cloud, if you're playing that version). Contrary to popular belief, the game doesn't modify your registry or drop secret cookies in your boot sector or anything.

I figured out how to activate the cheat, but I'm unfamiliar with the game so I don't know what it does:

1) During the second test, choose the butterfly five times.
2) During the third test (name entry), enter the name FLIMFLAM.
3) Profit???

Hopefully you can figure out the rest from here!

Seems you can press X on controller 2 to instantly clear and deploy a transport relay on any planet. Maybe there's more?

Not a bug. The SGB1 gets its clock signal from the SNES and divides it by 5, which results in a speed of 4.295 MHz versus the original Game Boy's 4.194 MHz (a 2.4% difference). This was probably done so they didn't have to include a crystal oscillator in every unit. I assume they added one to the SGB2 to correct this problem.

If the ROMs work fine in an emulator, they might just have a different iNES header or something, which would throw the CRC off. You can either try getting them from another source, or just apply the patch and see if it works anyway.

The ROM should be 49,168 bytes; a larger filesize likely means someone added a junk footer that needs to be trimmed off, and a smaller filesize means it's a bad ROM.

If any of that fails, you can just find the MAME ROMs and combine them into an iNES ROM yourself, though that's a bit more complicated...

Lair of the Block Dragon (D1D2-0000-00D5-81A7)

The end result of my experiments in making a proper SMW-style block snake. Kind of went through a bit of development hell halfway through, since I became unhappy with several parts of the level design and couldn't figure out how to make an exciting line-guided Bowser confrontation, but I guess it still turned out okay.
