Unbefuckinlivable. This is some high quality goodness. This really deserves alot of attention. These people really put a ton of work into this. Prolly the greatest video game related vid I've ever seen. I think I just saw this 12 minute video like 5 times in a row. One hour of my life well spent.

Very enjoyable game Viarra. The traversal through Tourian/Sanctuary area was very well thought out. I can't say the new terrain textures blow me away, but at least its something new to look at. The rooms are nicely built and I look forward to the complete game.

Hehe, this is a nifty hack indeed. Short and sweet, and better than most all SMB1 hacks. Even though Toad gets stuck after hitting the end of level block in the second level and the snowball power up is all wierd, this is still the type of hack that inspires me to go back to all my old projects. Good stuff DarkData.

I have no idea what Stepmania, Simfiles or what those numbers you posted mean. (Only music games I know are Guitar Hero and RockBand).

But I DO know Virt and Crystal Flash
Best video game song ever. Just thought I'd help expose the song more.

Thank you for your time.

As nice as the overall area looks, I cringe whenever I see water-line weirdness. How can one part of same water body be higher than any other? Unless of course there is uneven pressure and or some kind of space gravity force going on...But I hate when people nit pick like that so do what ya want with your hack Yukarin.

And here's a spur of the moment kind of thing I made...maybe in 4 years I'll actually finish it.

Yeah, some people (I hope not most people) hate cross over hacks, well its my thing and I'm sticking to it.

Posted on 03-07-09 06:11:35 PM, in Kid Icarus Palette Problem Link

OK then, I'm just gonna throw this out here for kicks and see what happens. If someone is able to simply link a document that solves my exact problem, I will be grateful and you can close the thread.

I am working on a Kid Icarus hack. I'm changing the graphics and level layout. I'm using DahrkDaiz's PitStop v0.7.3 which works great for building levels, not so much for changing palettes. Editing Level 1-1'a palette went flawlessly, unfortunately I come to level 1-2 and things go sour. In the editor the palette looks just the way I want it, in game though it is all wrong.

Now I have changed palettes in other NES games like SMB1-3 and Metroid using a hex editor. But the technique I used for those games doesn't seem to work for Kid Icarus.

What I normally do in FCEUXD is search for the palette colors I want to change in the PPU Memory, add a write breakpoint to the color I want to change, let the debugger snap, and go to the address in the NES Memory that it lists. Then when I right click that value, it gives me the option to "Go here in Rom file."

This is where I can permanently change the palette. But for some reason, when I follow this procedure in Kid Icarus, that little option to "Go here in rom file" does not show up.

I tried searching for the palette directly in the rom file, but I seem to get false positives or something. It looks like palettes are shared between levels and or enemies and its just a big mess. I change what I believe is level 1-2's palette, but level 1-1's palette gets messed up.

Given time I may be able to decipher this weirdness, but quite frankly, that's why I use ready made game editors, to avoid this stuff. I sent DahrkDaiz a PM from board2 a while back but no answer yet.

I found this pdf with lots of Kid Icarus notes, but even the rom map at bottom isin't helping.

Can anyone enlighten me?

Wow, and that's just the intro level.. can't wait to see what you do in the first regular level.

As for my previous screen, close observation of the HUD should let you know its a Kid Icarus rom with SMB2 graphics thrown in. I am having color issues with that hack so I'm putting it off for the moment and actually working on what I should have finished a long time ago but didn't.

People still comment a lot on my first megaman hack, not sure why I never hurried and finished the sequel. This hack is taking way too long to get done, so I'm gonna have to forget about enemy graphic modifications. I wasted who knows how long a time trying to figure out what Castlevania enemy could be put in place of those spiky hedgehogs from Needleman's stage. Even with that, I still got lot to do.

Same here. I bought Disgaea DS maybe a weak or two after release, it has not left my DS's cartridge slot since. I think its only like the 5th game Iv ever logged over 100 hours in, and I still have a lot to do.

As for Virtual Boy. I played it a couple times at Toys R Us way back when it first came out. The only time I have ever felt sick and gotten a headache from playing video games was then. That red light is evil.

I'm thinking of getting Disgaea 2 for PS2 to have something to do during Spring Break, its as good as Disgaea 1 right?

That level design is smooth as butter man. It just looks right. You can really see what I mean when you compare it against other videos showing less than stellar level structure. The hills and jumps and enemy placements just seem so natural, not to mention your tileset and music are very nice too. As always great work SNN, (and partner).

I dont like to post in the screenshots thread without showing a screenshot myself, so here ya go.

That is outta this world. If I would have randomly come across this video on YouTube with no reference to where it came from, I would so be calling shenanigans. But I happen to know you ARE that talented...i think.. yeah... you are.

Did you do this solely for fun/learning experience or do you have some grand purpose?

That looks fantastic man. I say the more Lunar Magic-like features you can get the better. The map 16 editor alone shoots this editor right to the top in my opinion.

I only ask that you give SMB2 its proper time and effort. It seems like most people just don't give a rats ass bout it, hence why SMB2 editors suck/don't work.

Keep up the great work SWR.

The Item World is a bit too random and can make long distances seem just a short ways away. Unless you have the instincts to rotate every time, not having a map could irritate you. Or just me, depends.

You are not the only one that appreciates that map. I sometimes go through entire item world floors only looking at that top screen map only looking down to see my damage numbers. Not sure how it was in the Playstation version, but I would think it would be a hassle not to have that map on screen all the time.

Is there a map system in Disgaea 2? I'm so getting a used one to play for spring break, regardless of map availability.

OK. Am i doing something wrong?

I recently got Disgaea 2 for my fat PS2. Playing it, loving it, wanting to squeeze all the goodness outta of it. So I'm looking over some stuff at gamefaqs when I find a youtube video

As soon as the video starts I notice something...it don't look like crap. In fact the video quality looks absolutely stunning. I don't know, maybe its just me, but the resolution looks higher than normal and the framerate looks high too, at least higher than im used to seeing on ps2 games.

The "enemy turn" and "player turn" and all the white text on screen looks super sharp and smoothly animated. When characters are moving, its so damn smooth looking. I really was taken aback, so I immediately go to my favorite gamestop, pick up some component ps2 cables(red, blue green) and hook it all up to my HDTV...

Maybe im stupid, maybe im blind, maybe im going crazy, yes my image looks better then before using RCA cables, but im not sure if my game looks as sharp as this damn you tube video.

Yes its all hooked up right. Yes the HD/non-HD toggle switch on the cables is set to HD. Yes the ps2 system menu says its connected vie component cables and 16:9 ratio.

I figure there's more stuff i can fiddle with, but just wanted to throw this out there to see if anyone has experience dealing with ps2 video quality connection cable framrate resolution stuff.

That damn youtube video is so silky smooth god damit, why cant my game look like that?

I have this thread already, might as well use it again. This time, Im working with SMB3 and I just want to be able to change what palette a block uses. SMB3 Workshop can't do it, nor can DahrkDaiz's Super Mario Bros. 3 Level Object TSA Editor. Both extremely awesome programs by the way.

Normally, coins(cherries) and plains floor use the same palette. Obviously, when I change the coins(cherries) palette to have a red and white color, the floor(grass) changes too. How can I change what palette each block uses.

Im sure there is a document somewhere detailing how each block is constructed and what palette it uses. I could not find it on romhacking.net or in the documents included in SMB3 Workshop.

Data Crystal has a rom map of SMB3 and has a section labeled "plains level Defs." I'm thinking/hoping that stands for Plains tile set block definitions. I am beating my head trying to figure out what those offsets do cause I can totally change a shitload of em at random and nothing in game changes.

For reference...

Yeah, so many people at GameFaqs insist on getting the Yoshi ASAP to be able to do anything. I feel a sense of accomplishment having beaten all the extra bosses (except zetta) without ever obtaining said overpowered sword.

Not to say, I am not pursuing it, but now its mainly for 100% item rate reasons. Anyone here have 100% item rate? (All quality levels of all weapons/armors/etc)

Thanks for the responses. I'm gonna go ahead and say they are emulating it perfectly on their monster desktop with monster vid card. Does PCSX2 support improved textures or filtering options like SNES emulators to make things look smoother than normal? I'm gonna go ahead and say yes... :p

Most likely the problem is me. I am never satisfied with my tech and I'm jealous of the kids with the newer, shinier toys.

Holy jesus... Who needs TV anymore pshhh...

I took a quick look at PCSX2 just to see if it had a voodoo magic improved texture feature. 30 minutes later..

It indeed looks sweet as shit when emulated. Was a pain to get it all configured to play and sound right, but there it is in all its netherworldly glory, running from my actual PS2 disk.

Had no idea PS2 emulation was up to this. Freakin flawless
hmm actually the image looks a bit blurry here ..while playing it certainly doesn't look blurry

My DS lite is perfectly playable right now, so I have no reason to get the DSi right now. Plus I never ever early adopt any game system, no matter the maker's reputation. I too believe that losing that GBA slot is a HUGE turn off. I just got into replaying my old GBA Fire Emblem games. I wouldn't be able to play em on this new one.

Nintendo wants to get us to re-purchase our GBA libraries with the virtual store. Not falling for that one again.
I'm still bitter from having lost my VC games when I had to send in my Wii for repairs. VC games I already owed in cartridge form in the first place...gahh

I'll get it on the first price drop...

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
