May I ask what excatly you mean by new polygon + new texture means. Did you create /modify a polygon, paste that Nintedo Rocks texture on it then place it in the sky like that? Or totally something different?

Regardless...Mariokart 64 hacking.. Freaking Sweet!

That is some high quality level making GY. Everything looks perfectly in place, as a bona fide Nintendo made YI game. If I had to call out one thing..those train sequences don't seem all that inventive to me.

You aren't doing too much that normal Yoshi couldn't do..other than of course flying straight up on the track. I would perhaps modify those long stretches of track to be a bit more loopy and curvy. Perhaps put one of those spinning spike sticks and have the track go in a circle around it..

Still though, great work.

SNN, you have yet to post an uninteresting screenshot/video. Great freaking job. I really cant wait to play (and hear) more of your Keytastrophe.

I just played this over at my friends house (Lucky bastard) And I must say..WOW. Fantastic game all around. Everything from the controls, graphics, sound..is just so damn smooth..as usual for Mario platformers.

Why is it that Mario platform games are always so much better than everything else? I mean, even though Sunshine was a bit of a let down relative to SM64. Relative to any other platformer on the Gamecube, it was still king.

I was going to wait until Smash Brawl came out to get myself a Wii. But god damn, I don't think I will be able to walk into a Best Buy/Gamestop without walking out with a Wii and Mario Galaxy.

Test of willpower this shall be... I'm so screwed.

Actually, this is all I have been working on for the past few days, and it just so happens I was about to post the final screen, so here it is

Keytastrophe's final OW. I may change stuff here or there, but they will be minor. Since the world's are all interconnected, there are shortcuts and pipes that connect them all, to form a wonderfully convoluted adventure

Truly a masterpiece of an overworld. I can't wait to see it in action. If I had to comment on one thing though..I know its like that in the original..but suddenly I am no liking the small white dots for the water paths.

They seem to be clashing with the white waves . You have the waves in the big ocean up north but not in the small lake at the bottom of the waterfall. Then again you have em in that water area in the south east corner.

Its most likely intentional, but have you tried just removing all the waves and leaving it a clear calm blue water surface? Regardless, like I said your oveworld is 1st class.

Plus I really like what your doing with that hazy green patch next to the right sunken ship. Is that like a marsh area? Sea coral area? Mushy grass/sand/water area? I bet it rocks whatever it is. :p

Yeah, I remember building mini forts after I beat Triclops with all the mushroom blocks in there. That's the 3 headed snake's name right? Anyways I got another cosmetic issue.

I created a block that uses my own ExGFX graphic. I need it to act just like a ? block with a single coin. So I set its behavior to 127 or whatever the number is. It works fine. But when I hit it, that spin block pops up for a second as it bumps up. Then after that, it turns into that brown "used up" box. I can't edit those graphics in Lunar Magic's GFX editor. It tells me something about invalid animated area...

I think I can fix it easily enough, If I can find those graphics in the extracted gfx's. Lunar Magic says those animated blocks are in GFX bin file #14. But when I open it in YY CHR they are not there. Little cloud looking things take the place of the spin block and ? block graphics.

Can someone tell me whats going on and some possible solutions.

Ok Ignore my last post. This is a slightly different problem. They say a picture is worth a thousand words..so here you go

So yeah, the sprite that bounces out a bit is using palette 8. So are the tiny bits of block that shoot out when you break the smashable block. I am sure there is a solution to this.

I of course am using custom palettes. But how do you change which palette that block sprite is using. Right now it's using palette #8 which is Mario's palette which I cannot modify. It gets overridden. Or am I missing something utterly stupid?

You sure like piranha plants. That looks like a real tough level, but it sure looks nice. I am not sure if that chargin' chuck palette is intentional, but he kinda looks weird in my eyes. That night level over world moving thingy sure was nifty. I am making a SMW hack too, but there is no way I can ever design such pretty looking overworlds as ones I've seen lately on this forum like yours.

In that first video you posted with the dessert level..did you design those wind token blocks yourself, or are they block/sprites you downloaded from somewhere? Do they really teleport you to another level, you didn't collect that last one in the video

You're borrowing Icegooms GFX no? Although everyone has nothing but nice things to say about his GFX, I cant say I am too thrilled with his sprites. Specifically his goomba and koopa troopa GFX just seem washed out and too detailed for their small size. This is of course out of your hands and not really important though.

First off, the fact that you were able to insert custom music into your hack makes you better than me and most probably. Your level design is good. I got some slowdown on more than one occasion though because of too many enemies on screen. Whats with the tri force replacing Yoshi coins? hehe

Having to push up to read that sign is awesome. How'd ya do that? I also like how you add lots of mini-secret areas where Yoshi coins are, nice little exploration element to every level.

"Defeat all enemies in this area for a secret" Awesome idea, didn't work though, I killed everything and nothing happened. That scrolling boss screen is totally awesome though.

Keep up the great work darklink898

Wow, harsh comments indeed. I personally very much enjoyed Halo 1. I utterly and completely loved Halo 2. And I wish I could marry Halo 3 its so awesome. First of, I find it interesting that you (Drag) mention how "the *AI* does better than I do" and consider it a negative. People almost always complain how the ally AI in FPS games sucks and gets killed too easily, you now complain that the ally AI is too good and doesn't die? hehe Just an interesting observation.

Also, in Halo 3's defense, that first jungle level is probably the ONLY level without a very clear path through the level. Not like there are actual branching paths that lead to dead ends though. I actually find all Halo games too linear for my taste, especially when compared to PC FPS's like Half Life.

Again, compared to most other FPS(console or PC), the amount "of shit on screen" is minimal really. Play a 32 online match of Unreal Tournament 3, now THATS alot of shit on screen and chaos and shit...and chaos

And then well for the difficulty in general, I mean..cmon...hehe I realize thats not a very articulate response but...cmon I most certainly do not consider myself a FPS master, yet Halo 3 on Normal or Heroic difficulty is by far the easiest of the Halos. Ample ammo, frequent checkpoints, grenades a plenty, vehicle availability. I believe the developers most defenetly made the funnest game they could.

Legendary difficulty is basically an entirely different game. You stop having fun in this difficulty, and start formulating strategies and honing your skills for online gaming, but its always been like that.

I have no real glaring issue with the campaign mode and I most certainly have nothing but great things to say about Forge mode. 3 buddies + Forge mode + every player can edit mode + explosions = teh fun!!!1

Fun that rivals Super Smash Bros Melee Fun

But of course..

I will agree with you on that point. As soon as Halo 2 was released, the hype for Halo 3 started building. Like I said, I do find Halo 3 to be one of the funnest FPS's on any console, but its not the second coming of Christ like it was hyped to be. No game is.

The way they kept the "secret of the x button" thing was pretty stupid. I mean, I have to remind myself to use equipment its so trivial. And the only reason I brought up SSBM was to compare "level of fun with buddies" OBVIOUSLY you cannot find 2 more different games. Its just that when my buddies come over to play. First we play SSBM, Halo 3, Rock Band, then whatever.

Oh and last night after posting my first reply, I went back and finally beat legendary mode solo. Yeah thats not fun.

It irritates me to no end when onlookers see me performing solo, and tell me how much I suck because of how much I get beat up while beating up the CPU. What's the problem with taking some damage? It's not like a bomb's gonna go off. No sense in being the best man, especially proving it to a computer.

I do this in all games, not just Smash Bros. As such, I'm never a good pick for a tournament. I don't have fun in laying the smack-down. To me, that's unfun.

Anyone else share these sentiments, or am I the proverbial odd man out?

I utterly and completely agree with your entire post. Games are for fun. Yes they can be used for serious competition or for deciding whose dong is bigger, but fun is the ORIGINAL design in mind. Too much kookiness and zaniness and overall wackyness is in the Super Smash games to just literally turn them off. Playing with no items? Whaa?
Only use certain characters on certain levels?? blasphemy..

I play with alot of people who are "lesser skilled" than me. By no means does that mean, they or myself are/is having less fun.

Holy Shit Holy Shit Holy Shit!

No update has ever filled me with enough glee to make me post in this thread, UNTIL NOW! That SMB 1-1 Level is THE BEST LEVEL EVER.

Thank you and goodnight.

Oh and don't forget to point out how unbelievably wrong I am, question my game knowledge, bash me with bad words...oh and of course demean my poor attempt at humor.

Neeto, kinda like Super Paper Mario on steroids. Although, I can already tell having to constantly change perspective like the trailer shows will undoubtedly get annoying/disorienting/tedious.

I could be wrong though...

"but it also won't be a traditional platformer," the Banjo team said in response to a fan email. "We somewhat grandly like to think that it will be a different take on the genre."

How DARE they mess with my Banjo Kazzooie. These 2 games were my favorite all time on the N64. They were huge fluffy collecathon platformers with crude humor and wacky enemies and I likes it that way.

If they turn Banjo threeie into some serious adventure game with a real story and gameplay with depth and original play mechanics and such..I'm boycotting.

It wont run, says it needs dmc2.cox I got it but it still wont go. The only reason I wanted to try this game out is because my cousin is actually coding a bouncing ball game scarily similar to this and I want to show it to him.

Never mind, my computer was playing a cruel cruel game with me. All is well now.

Schwa, those boot power ups are scarily similar to power ups I made for a long forgotten Game Maker Mario Fan game I made. Fantastic Job, they seem to work flawlessly.

As for additional boot power ups, in my game , I also had spike boots (lets Mario walk on spikes, piranha plants), double jump boots, that let Mario double jump and I was working on speed boots that let you run super fast so that you could clear long jumps or beat P switch puzzles where time is of essence.

Your hack looks unbelievably cool, keep it up.

Absolutly fantastic. You are really having your way with SMW. SEALS, Key Spirits.
permanent inventory items, superb custom music, custom level icons, new game puzzles, !00% new and very nice looking overworld, an actual theme that you keep throughout the whole game! I really cannot wait to play your new demo SNN.

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
