Ever since I saw CavemanDCJ (yes, the Tomba 2 guy whose run Chibi co-commentated) run it on SGDQ, I've been sort of mystified by Floating Runner
Something about its low budget shovelware quality and how there's barely any footage of people beating the final boss outside of Caveman's runs and one guy on Niconico is just so endearing
A lot of 32-bit games (PSX, Saturn) have this weird "bizarre but enthralling" quality to me actually, Kowloon's Gate being one of them (that one's not bad tho it's just completely untranslated lol), SaGa Frontier 1 too with all its jank (I don't gel well with 2's gameplay and its setting and world are actually well-developed for the most part lol)
NiGHTS into Dreams... was this to me as a 10yo too, Jackle was my fave Maren
Can't forget Net Yaroze-made games, both the serious ones like Hover Racing and Terra Incognita and the weirder, joke ones like Gas Girl and Fatal Fantasy VII. The fact Net Yaroze even existed is amazing if you ask me (it also gives me nostalgia for the time Sonic CulT was still active but really those were the dark ages)
I'm also one of the few people who actually likes Milon's Secret Castle unironically
Falcom's less mainstream, less anime entries (Legacy of the Wizard, Xanadu, Sorcerian, Legend of Xanadu, Legend of Heroes pre-Trails, Lord Monarch) are chill too
Extremely obscure shareware DOS Games would fall into this list too, especially Larax & Zeco
It's some weird Italian action game about demolishing buildings
I've spent most of my teenhood trying to find its name ever since i played it back when I was 3 ahaha~
Supaplex too, I have a lot of nostalgia for it
Still need to play more of the original Boulder Dash (the NES version's music is sublime)
Lastly(??? I've edited this post so much), I'm pretty sure this is why I like Japanese SMW hacks a lot more, there's just next to no info to them outside of the ASM heavy ones because LPers are like cats with laser pointers when it comes to flashy bosses
Lack of self-imposed standards outside of "don't make shit look completely fugly" and "don't make garbage youtube levels" also leads to them doing some wacky-ass shit with level design you wouldn't really see outside of the JUMP crew (and maybe South Korean hackers lol)
Lastly, lastly, Miss World 96 Nude
It's just the most ridiculous Gals Panic and Qix clone I have ever seen in my life and I'm glad this one guy who does satirical game reviews on YouTube (and who I also sometimes talk to on Twitter, he's the dude with the weird corrupted Pilotwings instructor av, heads up he's irony twitter so expect questionable shit) reminded me of it
I first knew about it thanks to Seanbaby, same way I found out about Cho Aniki
Lastly, lastly, lastly, super cute Kirby-esque games like Stafy, Klonoa, Ristar, Hebereke, Gimmick, Cocoron...
I'm addicted to adorable shit don't judge
Still sad Trip World was so dull tho QQ

i'd argue the reason most latter Sonic games suck is Sonic Team being rushed to meet deadlines
This is actually sort of true lol
Even for Forces to some extent (not saying this because I vastly prefer Mania, trust me, the "4 years" bullshit was just working on Hedgehog Engine 2 and brainstorming)

I'd find LSD a little more interesting if it didn't boil down to just being a handful of areas
Why I can't get into Yume Nikki lol
I know the focus is on exploring the dreamscapes but running into interactable NPCs (outside of just Knifing everything) is far and few between, last I played
