WIP

Something far more noteworthy than the previous (if only because I actually can share details), I decided to work on my CSS3 Windows skins some more.

I even managed to (after many consecutive tries...) get a working format for 3.1 style skins. (It's harder than it looks, I used the more hacky side of CSS styling, and this skin WILL require JavaScript to work at its fullest)

I have also recovered lost progress from when I tried adding the alternative XP themes
That was the main focus of today, and later at night, I decided to try doing 3.1 finally.

I also managed to get caption buttons (min/max,close) to work almost exactly as I'd like them to! (:
Still gotta add the glyphs, though, and I highly expect that to break them.

Now, I need to sleep...
If not for getting so sidetracked, I'd have gone to bed way earlier.

and before i forget:

Finally got mine mostly complete...
Hopefully didn't go too far, and the CSS code is a bit longer than I prefer, mostly because of lots of normalization, and some prefixed properties since CSS3 is far from being properly implemented according to 'standards'.

Anyhow, there's a few kinks to work out, and I really cannot be bothered to do that right now.

Just checked the entirety of your drawing/art blog
Got some nice stuff, there.

I also see the two characters I guessed of those portraits you showed earlier were right (Oh yeah, didn't mention that...I did have an idea of two of them) I'd be more specific, but why ruin the surprise for anyone else?

I should be off to bed soon.
Actually have a meeting to be to tomorrow.
I am a volunteer for a service club, and a board member of a local charity event.
I don't mind, but yeah...
I'd be more specific, but that could break my anonymity, despite I've been playing with the idea of dropping a certain amount, anyways...

I will definitely watch for other art from you

Haha, wow, this is super cryptic! Thanks for checking out my blog, it's nice to hear you liked it! I agree… I think some of the stuff there is nice. And some of it isn't, but that's part of learning. You gotta get all the crap art out before you can make the good art (and even then there's still more crap art).

Hopefully there'll be more art from me at some point. But with the baby coming this week (one way or another), it'll probably be a while before I can draw again. I hear they take over everything.

Yeah, np!
I have a pretty low bar for "crap", I didn't see a whole lot that met it
But yes, this is true. I think I went the opposite way, I made some great stuff, particularly while in high school... Now I can't even come-up with a good doodle, and just... awful...

Alright...
In some cases, this applies to the entire family.
Can't remember if I mentioned this, but I became an uncle at the end of my Freshman year of high school. Has impacted me, and still does. (Ofc, I apparently do not have the right to say this because it's impossible for me to have any plans, I'm lazy and sit around all day)

What part was cryptic?
lol

Those gif screenshots are hilarious!

I'll just pretend to understand or be fully interested in the technical stuff

And NP.
My own threads drive me batshit crazy, because I KNOW people are reading them, but given the lack of such things as replies, or any activity in places I've linked, it makes me feel like no one actually cares about any of it. (Or in cases I asked for help, wants to, or feels I'm worthy of it)

551B84

(I just went to each offset in the European rom, copied a bunch of bytes there, then opened the US V1.0 rom and pasted those bytes into the search box.)

Hmm, now what can I do with this info? I need to think...

Update:
Some unfortunate news... those 5 cow textures are not loaded in memory in Indiana.
(Longer version: In Indiana, I went to both locations where the cow would appear in the arcade version. At both places, I did a memory dump with Project64d, then I searched both memory dumps to see if they contained any of those 5 cow textures. Unfortunately, none of them were in the memory dumps. Just to test, I also tried during the ending, and that memory dump has cow textures loaded.)

Now, to be honest, I'm not sure what the implications are. Maybe it's still possible to load a cow object, or maybe it isn't.

Edit:
Unrelated to the cow textures: Earlier I tried to replace stage objects again. In Indiana, I went to where the first cow appears in the arcade version and changed a bunch of objects there. Unfortunately, I don't think any of the available objects were cows. But I don't know if this rules out their existence or not.

Yet another edit:
Oh, I almost forgot to mention. Back when I was first changing stage objects, I found there's a value that controls the object's collision type. So for example, 0x20 gets flattened like a telephone pole, 0x30 goes flying like a barrel, and 0x40 pushes you back or makes you spin out. 0x15 is used by the coconut-dropping trees in Beverly Hills, but when I tried to use it in other stages, the game crashed.
Anyway, I mention it because 0xF0 has the same effect as the "enable unused collision function" code I posted back on page 1. If you set an object to use 0xF0 collision, running into it will make the game crash, but if you have the "prevent freezing" code enabled, then instead the object will disappear while you spin out.

k

k

nothing is impossible "where there's a will, there's a way" while difficult in many cases, adding code at run-time or via debuggers and such is entirely possible. I'm not saying it's easy, or that i generally know how to do it at all. i just know it's a thing, and a thing that cheat engine and similar would be capable of. however, idk if cheat engine would work on an emulator as effectively... i'm certainly not saying that the effort to try and force them to load is worth it, either. i'm just saying, i know that one way or another, what you suggest is possible.

Good luck!
And lol... hard-coded level-specific values are just awesome, huh?

Don't have a job, can't remember the temperature at school, the irritating POLITICAL climate is what i was always fixed on, there...

sometimes my hobby programming projects FEEL like a job, though.
(and to be perfectly honest, i'm partial to freelance/independent work, or at least, jobs i can do from home. various reasons...)

as i mentioned in the summer thread, the thermostat is always set to whatever is most comfortable to ONE specific individual...

Being naked wouldn't keep me cool, no amount of covers (at least to where it's not restrictive of motion) will keep me from freezing. most of them time, it's too hot...

so, basically: miserable...

my guess is with my particular temperature requirements, whatever combination of ambient temperatures and "professional dress attire" will make me EXTREMELY uncomfortable. i can pretty much, guarantee it.

hopefully i'm not totally violating the rules of posting here?

i help operate the food booth for the service club i am a member of. in a way, that's a job. totally unpaid one, but i am quite happy to do it. Some Parts of the year, it is too hot. It's occasionally too cold, but standing by heat lamps, grills, or deep fryers QUICKLY resolves the latter

So much for lurking...

unless the devs were that smart-or-stupid, the randomizer is probably a reusable function, somewhere.
given this is a 3D game, you'd need to determine HOW the game is determining the place to spawn them... My guess is certain regions, most likely of varying shapes, are defined somewhere, and then some routine processing these areas and randomly fills them with objects, in this case, cows. Your best approach would be pinpoint the randomization routine(s), and any object-spawning routines. you also need to find-out where in the code, or data, and in what format, the information determining how to spawn them is. If any of that is not in the 64 ROM, you'd need to extract it from the arcade ROM (or re-create it from scratch...) and somehow inject that into the game. That's my understanding of the situation. What I am explaining to look for, ofc, is based either on how I would implement the feature(s) myself, or that other developers might, or that i've seen other developers do. Not really private knowledge, though.

Loading the textures should be possible, I will not vouch for the difficulty compared to correctly adding the code and data to properly SPAWN cows in the first place. In any language I deal with, it's trivial...XD but, you're working at machine level!

yeah..alpha/opacity/transparency, in general are potential problems both in graphics programming, and developing content packs for applications (i'd say games, but content packs aren't limited to them). I've had some experience, and have heard the horror stories from others! XD

firstly, DEAR GOD...
I'm glad you and your child are ok...

Secondly, (this is delayed due to my final point), that moment when github SPAMS your email...XD!

This was meticulously edited to wipe traces of what i do not want out there, that is my private email being shown. god forbid you find anything that i missed, please tell me... i go to great lengths to keep that email address secret. even if i DO drop my anonymity, i'm not changing that.

Now, fatfox has the last two days been a pain in the ass, and that's putting it nicely. Mozilla will be getting a review with very VERY aggressive wording. Even if for some reason, I can not say "fuck" and "fuck you" 100s of times DIRECTLY, I will make damn sure it's implied. This is an extreme for what I'd normally do, but I've HAD IT...
The other day, Firefox had THREE TABS, AT ONCE, die on me. All the symptoms point to serious memory corruption. So, not only is firefox a memory hog (and full of leaks) , it's not memory SAFE.
Today, I was trying to talk with a new friend. That damn web browser lagged, then crashed. I luckily was able to save the PM i was typing as a draft. I was so fucking pissed. It gets juicier than that, though. The gmail tab shown in above screenshot was not properly freed from memory, it re-opened when firefox re-started. (I'm sorry, but caching the tabs/history in the manner firefox does is just stupid, anyways...) When talking with my friend (not the new one... fuck, i hate referring to people by relationship title), I mentioned that based on my experiences, I do not want to know what security flaws firefox's JS engine has. Evidently, the browser that aims to be so 'secure' by removing NPAPI like Chrome has, is riddled with potentially just as many security holes as the plugins it's written-off as being "insecure". I've tolerated the shit from Mozilla as much as I am willing to. If Pale Moon supported XP, it'd be replacing this non-progressive, buggy, DISGRACE of a dying web browser. And my issue isn't merely because of yesterday and today, not even because only of what I've experienced. Performance hits, especially, have been reported even on Windows 7 and up, and on computers tens to hundreds of times more powerful than what I'm using now. Generally speaking, the trend I noticed is this shit really got bad around firefox 42 I think... and so help them, if one of these crashes should EVER interfere with something related to my business/job(not yet an issue), health, or finances, or anything of DIRE IMPORTANCE, they're going to be hearing from my lawyer, and I will be on the lookout for a (social- ?) media organization/person just hungry for a good scandal. (and in that case, some little disclaimer ain't going to even pad their ass, i'll make sure financially or in PR to hurt them good!) //end rant...

Now that I've today/tonight experienced a combination of:
amusement
absolute blood-boiling RAGE
major concern

...I'll be going back to my gmail to try and address my gitspam. (also, i have a very important personal email buried among all that. at least one, anyways)

another also :p is it possible for someone to give me working links to all audio files and pictures of DP?

sorry if this is asked before but all i find are just links with audio from this and this scathered, not everything together

you think someone out there has a playable rom?

idk about working (fully), there is a ROM link out there (unless that's gone down). The E3 Demo is basically found left-over in a Kiosk demo ROM
i guess??? Last I heard, there are known crashing issues

There were some... IDK about how many remain, now...
Yes, it's been asked before.

There are rumors of cartridges out there, some are believed to be true.
I once tried to track down at the very least, information on one that I suspected as-is to be less than genuine. Officially, I can neither confirm nor deny it, but the response I got wasn't very helpful. It makes me more suspicious of a hoax. I'll say no more... reasons... PM me if you must know.

If a ROM or cart exists, it's in the hands of private collectors, either being kept under tight lock and key, or waiting for a good chance to be released. There is not much doubt of this. Lots of stuff has survived from when DP was a thing.

Rare had a dev cart, but supposedly it stopped working, and supposedly it was trashed/destroyed. Far as I know, neither is confirmed.

Supposedly, "Big N", as I tend to call them, now... has the source code and assets, and most likely a dev cartridge or two. Given that the OoT Debug ROM leaked, the possibility of A leak from Nintendo is probably not out of the question.

Hugo Peters has talked personally with Rare/Microsoft. Unfortunately, he's bound by NDA. Look back a bit to see what he DID say about the matter.

XK:
Not entirely by choice... but it's still a great OS for user experience, at least. My own desktop, which is XP, does NOT have the huge crashing issues on firefox. But, it's probably got dying hardware, or needs a better cooling fan for the CPU... The first 'new tech' device I'll be getting is probably going to be an Android phone. This is not by my choice, but rather that I'm FORCED to because of the joke of a 'cyber-security feature' called using phones for verification. Amazingly, despite how "insecure" XP,Flash,Shockwave, etc...supposedly are, they don't cause me too many issues...cuz I don't recklessly surf the web and install shit that I apparently 'need' (and I use ad-blockers). From my own fault, I've only ever gotten a total of maybe 2-3 viruses, and they were for doing really stupid shit that I shouldn't have been doing. On the other hand, I've got so many tracking cookies, but I gave-up removing/blocking those...

StapleButter
I choose to be notified, in case something's interesting. Email notifications don't bother me until they become a huge problem... So far, they haven't. What you see in that screenshot was a bit much to take-in, yes, but I found it rather amusing, myself!

To be fair, from my understanding, many of the popular and "go-to, highly recommended" forum software are/were riddled with serious security holes.

Just saying.

You make a good point, but it applies to anyone, including large organizations. Your question/comment comes off as being directed exclusively at pokemonmaster, or any random individual, and not ANYBODY who tries their hand at writing one of these. Not trying to be rude, either, but I felt that needed to be nit-picked, sorry. What you said still holds weight, and I agree.

The weird thing about that prototype is that there are remnants of earlier versions, DKR, and even prototypes of DKR in there but aren't in the final game. We don't have any other prototypes though and it's increasingly unlikely any other prototypes exist/survive.

While there are rumo(u)rs of DP carts out there, none of them have been confirmed as a copy of DP. It's unlikely we'll find a copy of Dinosaur Planet soon.

Rare's dev carts were temporary. Basically, the game itself would be burned onto a board and the tester could play it for a short period of time before the game was wiped.

I'm just going by what I recall reading...

yep... I recall there were a few (or so i heard) that were supposed to be somewhat permanent. ofc, there's more questions than answers, there, and all are believed to be under very tight lock and key.

congratz!

and ugh, I too, tend to forget many such dates. I never really log them anywhere, either

We all have things we want to do differently if we could. In my case, however, I wonder if that'd drastically alter the course my life has taken to this day. Everything that's happened, good and bad, has shaped who I am, what I've done, what I believe in, and most likely steered me to sites like this. Long story short, yes, it's quite normal.

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
