Well, I DID have a copy of at least a few, I think?
IDR...but I think I grabbed them a few months ago...
Then my dad did the 'desktop cleaning' ... >.<

But, I could be thinking of some other tools, too...
Either way, all the stuff I was collecting together concerning this game or any remnants of it, is gone

These downloads are all dead because the hosting they were on vanished sometime last year - I also am not sure if I still have these locally, and if so, where they'd be. I could look for them this or next week, but don't expect anything.

I still have all of these.

Here is a nice clickable Google Drive link.

Anything else needed? I went through a Download rampage here a while ago, so chances are I have it backed up.

So I was flown into the UK last week to visit Rare, what an amazing studio!
Had a nice lunch with one of the senior engineers, met all of the different tech departments, and got the opportunity to play some Sea of Thieves with none other than Chris Marlow!

Oh nice, surprised nobody seems to care, how was it? :O
Any sightings of DP?
Also, were you able to ask them anything related to it?

Cool!
I'll update that list again.

I care, just wasn't too sure what, if anything, to actually say about it. Wasn't even sure if he'd end-up learning anything new about DP, much less actually see it anywhere (if they had it, it's probably locked-away tight...XD), but...I suppose that question is always worth asking. Would also be cool to hear what he has to say about the whole experience. I didn't ask though since I'm paranoid about either de-railing the thread, or getting in trouble yet again.

It's been asked already (I've already read this section of the forum), but just to make sure, are you definitely sure whether or not you saw or heard anything about Dinosaur Planet? I'd really like to know, but not only I for that matter - surely everyone else would like to hear. It just looks like nobody has bothered or really does not care to ask.

I recognize the 'look' of the photograph - looks like the ones in the past where that statue of Sabre and Krystal are on the back of a dinosaur with the displays of video games / systems on the side. It really is a shame Miyamoto brought up one statement changing the development for good. I love Nintendo & Rare, but Miyamoto made a bad decision on this one.

It's nice though that the people at Rare (or hopefully most of them) care about the studio. Chances are DP may still be there! That gives me hope! You didn't happen to ask Chris Marlow about the defunct game, did you?

Well, if you work hard and really care much about your work, chances are you will work at Rare. What do you like doing as a hobby (besides audio ripping, etc)? Would you like to make that become a reality?

I'm not sure if I would or not (for many legal reasons), but if I ever worked there, I would probably leak the rom if it exists. I would get the job working at Rare, get the rom, leak it, and then ultimately get fired the next day. I wouldn't really do that, but sometimes I sure feel like it.

Nice share, Hugo!

It never hurts to ask again, especially straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak. Ex-devs are good for getting SOME information (and occasionally source code and assets, I'm lucky enough to have managed this a couple of times). But, current employees, and ...executives are where you'd get the information of the COMPANY still having anything. This sound about right, Hugo?

Yes, it does... raises the question what happened to the statue and such, though
I'm not sure it is the same room, though?

I would hope they care. Rare's rep really has suffered ever since MS buy-out. And even their recent things don't indicate the company is technically performing...well... ignoring any "profits", since money is used exclusively to determine "success"... But, I guess we'll see. There's plenty who lost faith in them, though. Hopefully the employees still care, but the executives still make decisions, iirc... As for DP being there or not, 'officially', it was declared the cart destroyed/disposed, allegedly... Might they still have even the source code? Quite possibly, it's clear much of the stuff from Rare's "golden age" has survived that you wouldn't think would still exist. However, Big-N likely wouldn't approve of this, since they "own" SFA/DP due to that ... unfortunate decision. If rare has it, they're NOT just going to say "yes, we have it" ... that'd be stupid, and that's the only word for it. The motives for that transformation to this day are questioned... I'll bring-up some of those maybe another time, it's a text-wall, and sure to stir controversy.

I was going to mention, the legal issues in your final point do pose an issue working for Rare. I'm not sure HOW powerful corporate contracts can be, but they can waive your rights ibn so many ways it probably should be illegal. Just speculating here, but that *could* harm projects to resurrect or hack old games if their team members signs-on to the company that was making it, or owns it. In the case of SFA/DP, that line is quite blurry in many aspects.

Honestly, I can't say I'd easily be able to agree to EVERY term, most especially on proprietary code. I also plan to if, say I were told to write a DRM, that the person ordering me to do so is made to sign an official statement/document. That way, when the DRM inevitably fails, the blame is not on me except for needing to not lose by job, thus MANDATED to add the DRM, despite it being a terrible idea. I'm also trying to think of ways to undermine the "we own all rights to what you make" Especially with me being an open-source type of guy... I don't want MS/EA/Apple owning every bit of code I write, for any reason. And oh, got sidetracked, not going to lie, the ROM is definitely something I would do what I can to get dumped or re-released, if the connections and resources became available.

Yes, it is...

Thanks guys! Unfortunately I can't share too much about my time there as I'm under Microsoft NDA - but yes, I did ask them about DP, and things sounded good. Unfortunately the lead of Rare Replay wasn't in so I couldn't ask them more thorough questions.

I was there for an internship position. I was one of the last 5 candidates, out of 200+ applicants. Unfortunately I didn't end up getting the position because of some screw ups during my formal interview. A lot of it went well, but I didn't expect some of the other questions they asked, and because of the strong competition it was a matter of points. But I received a lot of great feedback from them and they said the doors are open for a future application, so who knows =)

According to Rare and other companies I asked (Quantic Dream, Gearbox Software) my portfolio / resume is excellent - so if anyone wants to check it: http://hugo.fyi/

NDAs suck... I assume it has some insane long expiration date, right?

That kinda sucks... But cool to know the door is still open to you. Good luck finding some job.

Cool! I wish my mom would quit viewing all my projects as meaningless, I am trying to establish a portfolio of stuff I've done, or am capable of. No academic recommendation or rating will ever truly reflect what I am or am not capable of. (especially since academic environments are stressful and generally non-productive for me) Anyways, maybe I'll check that out sometime...just, cuz... as long as you're sharing it.

Welp...I think I've addressed everything I can, or see need to.
Back to doing other stuff!

Alright then.

Hmm...not sure why that may have happened, but I don't think it's the tool I had my friend make... So either it's intentionally missing something, or the other data is stored in another place? IDK... I could provide the sample I used and what little I figured-out of the format?

I also observed that the sprites in this version are split into tiny chunks... which is one reason (besides I need the color palettes) I haven't done much work towards finishing this project yet.

WIP

https://github.com/Brian151/OpenShockwave/commit/453ac78ce1419161d193c0845a8be0c048cc0203

Honestly, I've been doing a lot with this...
but it'd be pointless to constantly post comments about the latest commits, so to summarize latest progress (not in exact order cuz...my memory):

1. parsing length and offsets from mmap section
2. linking LctX , Lnam, Lscr
3. understanding CLUT
4. slowly but surely piecing together the CASt sections... (they're kinda annoying, seriously)
5. various documentation on the formats
6. There is a bytecode disassembler in-progress, but it was developed independent of my parser, so it doesn't use the names table yet
7. Due to modification of machine code instructions, a newer version of diropener has been made, it doesn't always work, though.
8. the list/preference format can be converted to JSON

Between the fact I'm actually really starting to get a hang of what I should be looking for in the files, and that I picked-up someone to help with this rather expansive project, a lot is happening. I would be very shocked at this point if my efforts in the end are not complete, or whatever might happen to cancel it, that someone else doesn't soon completely crack the Director/Shockwave format. Truth be told, I'm surprised it didn't happen a lot sooner. At least two of the formats (DCR/CCT,DIR/CST) are anything but 'secure' or even obscure... (aside from compressed ones using Varints, not exactly a standard data type)

Anyways, I'm excited. Most of the days I apply myself to working on this, I manage to find something, and/or write a parser for it. My collaborator also usually has something to report.

This is getting ridiculous.

I merely stated that NDAs suck. Also, members of my family have had NDAs used against them to the effect f covering illegal activities, so can't say I respect such contracts. I did state I, personally will find everything I can do to nullify such contracts I am subjected to. Technically, there's a few at the level of file distribution I have to deal with. I dare not breach them because I could easily be tracked down.

I don't recall giving much issue, I've explicitly stated most of what I've "found" is old news, and may or may not have been brought-up here. There are observations of mine that I haven't YET heard mentioned elsewhere, like "Introduction" seeming to appear in both one hour video and the trailer (said music piece in itself is an enigma cuz I can't find the date of origin for it!)

Have I stated it'd be nice to have the prototype? yes... Have I demanded it? Hell no, what good does that do? I have expressed combinations of discontent and partial disbelief in current state of affairs with the game, but I'm not going to force someone to do something. Quite doubt Mr. Quetch is going to force someone to either... Especially since some people are keen to take equally as drastic measures in response.

What IS getting ridiculous is people making drama and taking stuff out of context here. From what I can tell, this very thing (minus drama) occurred in this thread before. Someone also could call Hugo, himself 'delusional' waaaay back when the investigation of this prototype started because of assuming/hoping that the entire DP ROM was intact on the kiosk demo. I don't expect him to go against an NDA. I, myself wouldn't if the risks were so high, UNLESS it was covering unethical and criminal activities.

I for one, didn't come to get caught-up in such a petty argument. I came to observe, or contribute what I possibly can. I want to part in this fighting, yet I am dragged-in because I have to justify EVERYTHING I do or say, lest have whatever reputation or standing I have with the members of this community and/or its staff, blasted to oblivion. That said, can we please STOP this arguing and accusations? It's doing nothing but to make blood boil and waste time. All that's being done now is a bad example is being set for the DP fanbase, because certain people are being told to shut-up and outright accused of saying things they didn't do, or didn't say, or didn't mean to be taken that way. These arguments that seem to keep popping up are basically sending the following message: "The DP fanbase is toxic, and full of a bunch of dreamers who won't allow their fellow dreamers to dream or express their concerns/complaints, and furthermore will throw them under the bus any chance they get" I'm sick of it, I'm tired of coming back to this thread to find an argument, and I wouldn't be surprised if Hugo, himself, is now regretting saying anything at all. In his shoes, I would want to take back anything I said, since it somehow has caused conflict, rather then curiosity or the slightest shred of hope. So, can we just STOP, and WAIT till someone goes so far as to literally say "GOD DAMMIT, GIVE ME THE INFO/ROM!" ? , because no one has said that even once...

Well, today so far has been stressful and/or exhuasting:

had to climb ladder to replace batteries on two smoke detectors, scared me to death, i fear the hell out of ladders...

had to replace one of the (luckily low-hanging detectors). Technically my dad did the re-writing part, but still, terrifying...

Had to do more trial-eand-error stuff to pinoint SERIOUS performance issues on the computer, they've been hopefully resolved...

Had to help clean bathroom... really icky stuff and hazardous chemicals, the very definition of my favorite thing to do. Have a small list of things that will be present when doing it next time...

Those are a few highlights, and it's only 7 PM, so I'm sure the day has a few more NASTY surprises in store... sigh...

That said, has it actually been succeeding this time around? I hadn't even heard of it till the news article came-up sometime last year, and talking about how the plan is to drive the marketing solely through people sharing it on social media. (Which I'll admit does sound interesting)

Due to the need arising for me to process umm... all too many firefox HTTPRequest logs...

https://jsfiddle.net/67uuf8x0/

I made a tool to do it for me...
Hooray for laziness/efficiency!

Probably one of the more useful things I've made in a while.
One note is that this was designed with making download lists, so it trims POST requests entirely
Easy enough to edit that out if for some odd reason you just NEEDED to keep one.
I use web console solely for monitoring the traffic from sites/games, or debugging my JS code, so... I really don't care about POST unless I needed to verify one was working. (haven't yet used it, so...)

Figured I'd share this, cuz I doubt I'm the only one who has had to go through and
clean THIS lovely tidbit several times:
GET
http://somesite.com/resource.file [HTTP 2.0 OK XXXXms]

No more, make JS do it for you! :D

So, let's take it a step further and not only add to the increasing blacklist of files, but fucking lock you out of your previous attachments of these formats. THANKS ASSHOLES, REALLY APPRECIATE IT, KEEP IT UP, YOU'RE GETTING A CLASS ACTION SO FAR UP YOUR FAT ASS...

Guess who's not sleeping tonight, and has to put literally EVERYTHING on hold to go and fix probably HUNDREDS of fucking attachments so they're "secure" (or just don't trip security...)

I'VE HAD IT

I most likely will be finding a new email provider. This is fucking BS. When I spend more time FIGHTING my applications/sites than actually USING them, and when it cuts-in to my other projects or basic needs, there's a problem... SUCK A DICK YA CORPORATE BASTARDS, CUZ I WILL NOW BE LOOKING EVER HARDER FOR WAYS BOTH TO BREAK MYSELF OF YOU, BUT BRING YOUR PRECIOUS LITTLE EMPIRE TUMBLING DOWN!

Now, I got a bunch of raw email messages to frigging download and practically ANCIENT hard drive to probably do a number on or finally kill from CONSTANT file re-writes. Thanks a lot Google. Really, I'm truly impressed of your business standards these days, yu're setting such a great example for other people on how to treat your customers, or hell, fellow human beings. You proud of yourselves?

//end rant, yeah, I'm toxic now. This is no small issue for me because there's so many things in my emails that literally ONLY exist there, and yeah, I'll be pressing charges if security features lock me out of it.

The administration (as well as a few users) have decided that you're creepy/weird enough that it's time to activate the sploded clause.

Was reminded of a game I haven't yet completed, so I'm currently trying to 100% Witch Hunt on Kongregate!

Any plans to compile a 32-bit version? There are those of us still using it.
Not to be a bother or anything...

sometimes you have to make assumptions from the naming of the files

So, look:
"namein" : name input
"ending" : something to do with ending
now, your last one is "DSKTOOL"
This means one of two things:
Disk Tool (most likely)
Desktop Tool (somewhat very doubtful)

So, it's probably something to do with the disk (CD-ROM disk, I'm guessing)
What? hard to say...
A game of that era might do a few things as far as disk is concerned

Sorry I don't have much more than an "educated guess" , but I hope it's of some use?

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
