Because I was totally advocating that. I am a completely heartless bastard with no empathy toward anyone.
Yyyyeah, sarcasm has no place in a debate; that's moving from sharing an opinion to oneupmanship.
I'm trying to see things realistically without emotions getting in the way here -- if it makes me sound like a callous, uncaring robot, then that's not surprising.
Alright, less sarcasm this time.
The primary focus of the government right now should be putting people back to work, not balancing the budget. Balancing the budget won't fix the economy. Helping people survive the lean times will. Poor people can spend money too, letting them live and get the occasional frivolity (you know, newish clothes, a car--that one's huge, public transit at least around here is pretty much a lost cause, and having a car will let you get a job places that aren't within walking distance), which will pump money into the manufacturing sector, which employs people who will then not be poor and will instead spend more money.
People talk about how savings are the basis for the economy. It's funny how the people who can save are pretty much the people who aren't affected by the current economy, and yet they believe that making it even more impossible for the people who are affected will make things better.
