| With regard to sound in linux, if the thing has a newish kernel with all of the sound drivers loaded, it should work. If it doesn't, you can get an updated version of it from http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Main_Page or you can try OSS from http://www.opensound.com/ but you'll have to run the config thing every time you put it on a new computer, I guess. |


I'd look for a distribution with a bit more modern kernel. Certainly 2.6 if you're going to run it on a lot of unknown hardware. I'd see if you could just install debian to the flash drive (im sure you can) since a good debian install with a lot of useful stuff is only a few 100MB and will be much more functional...unless you're using a miniscule flash drive, in which case just spend $10 on a bigger one.
