How do most of the people on this forum feel about younger people posting here. I'm 13, but I want to hack SM64 to. If kids try not to act like idiots, can they still post and ask questions? Or will I annoy all of the grownups here?

I'm VERY new (A month) to SM64 hacking, but I've been hacking SMW for a bit of time now. (Well, not that long really, 3 months) When I look through various SMW discussions on the internet, I think that I DO have a disadvantage over grownup-hackers. It's harder for me to do stuff. But I still try, and I still want to be able to ask questions and have some help.

That said, I don't consider myself and idiot, and I certainly don't TRY to be an idiot, but that doesn't mean I won't act like a child, which you may deem an idiot's post.

Wow, I have a habit for rambling on and on without getting to the point. To sum things up, my question is this, can children post here as long as they do not try to act like idiots?

This is bug that was in the old version and hasn't been fixed, looking back it seems this bug hasn't been mentioned to you.

When you change the music of the castle grounds, it the music doesn't play. Instead, the original Castle ground "Music" plays.

Also, if you change the music for the castle grounds and then start a new game, the first two seconds of the music you selected will play during the opening sequence, but after those two seconds have passed the normal opening sound track will play, and the castle grounds plays the original "Music"

I'm using Windows XP.

Posted on 09-10-07 09:39:31 PM, in Two ideas to make TT64 easier to use. Link

Last night I couldn't fall asleep for some reason, and because I find counting sheep torturous, I thought about ways that TT64 could be easier to use. This did two things, it helped me fall asleep, and it turned out to be much more productive than counting sheep.

************************

Though I have no way of knowing for sure, I think that my first idea would be fairly easy to implement. Say that I wanted to put a 27 giant goombas outside the castle. (Which I probably wouldn't do since it's been done SO many times) To do this, I'd have to select an object that isn't really needed, (Say, water mist) select "three goombas," and then change the three goombas into giant goombas.

Now that's all fine and dandy, but I want to put 27 goombas outside the castle. So what would I have to do? I'd have to repeat the above process 27 TIMES. It's quite boring, and it feels like something that you shouldn't have to do.

So, imagine a feature like this. I select ALL of the water-mist's in a level at once by holding down CTRL while clicking on each of the Water-mist's listed in the sidebar. I then select "Three Goombas." Because all of the water-mist's in the sidebar were selected, all of the water-mist's will become three goombas. This gives me 27 goombas for 1/9 the time.

Now, you could say that by wanting this feature I'm being lazy and that I should just get up and change all of the water mist manually. Maybe I am being lazy, but I seem to run into the above problem (Except without goombas of course) again and again. This feature would make TT64 much easier to use, and would allow users to concentrate on their hacks instead of concentrating on repetitive tasks.

************************

Here is my other idea. It's more complex than the last one, and I can imagine it would take quite a bit of work to implement. For the far future however, this may be something to consider. It has been inspired by SM64DS as well as the concept that using 2-D is easier than working with a three-dimensional world on a 2-D screen.

When you play SM64DS what is on the bottom screen. Yeah, it's a map, but it's also a 2-d version of the game. That map would be much easier to edit than the 3-D world on the top screen.

Obviously, you couldn't always rely on a 2-D map, since there is no way to move an object up or down. However, if you were able to switch between editing in 2-D or 3-D, this would be a very nice feature indeed.

***************************

These are just suggestions. What is to be done with the suggestions is up to VL-tone. But I think they would be very nice.

Coins that are just sitting on the ground don't bounce. However, if you kill a goomba, the coin that you get from the goomba will bounce.

Except the 3-D camera in general is a bit hard to operate. You can't just click-and-Drag and object from one place to another... or you can click and drag I guess, but it doesn't feel very fluent. I think this is because it's 3-D.

But now that you have made me think about it, maybe the cause of the problem is simply that the computer has to render a 3-D world, therefor not giving a good "Feel" to the program. A 2-D editing mode would still solve the problem, but for different reasons.

I'm glad you like my first idea You don't have to support the second, sorry if I'm acting pushy.

Of course, the [Pentagon?] hasn't exactly done to well with the iraq war. Not sure I trust them.

Although the democrats rule two branches of our government, they can't do much about the war with the president in the way. The writers of our constitution gave the president a lot of power, in my opinion to much power. Also, the checks-and-balances system our government is based on only allows one branch to STOP another branch from doing something, they cannot actually MAKE another branch do something.

The president cannot declare war, Only congress can. But once war is declared, it's in the hands of the president. As long as the president is in office, he's the one in control of the war. The democrats can't do anything.

Well Glitch, it isn't exactly like this hack has much competition as of right now.

And remember that TT64 is still fairly limited. A FANTASTIC editor, but still new, and limited.

There is probably some reason that makes my suggestion hard to implement, but an unlimited amount of text in the Text Wrangler would be fantastic. We could turn SM64 into an RPG!

Well, at least in my opinion it would be fantastic. One talent I pride myself in is writing stories, so if I could combine my writing skills with TT64... well it would be a lot of fun for me and would add a lot of depth to my hacks.

I did some more research into it... the bug ONLY happens when you start a new game. Once you walk inside the castle and walk back out into the castle grounds, the music that was applied using TT64 plays.

Please... it's a real bug... I'm not trying to trick you or give you extra work or anything.

Sorry if I'm being impatient, but I'm REALLY getting the feeling that I'm being totally ignored.

On an unrelated note, about the problem with the rom extender on Japanese systems, What would happen if an emulator was used? Might that fix the problem. Keep in mind I don't really know what I'm talking about, I'm just using my common sense to try to figure out what may help.

I've got a bug report, a bug that happens in the second Bowser course. If I move a "Moving Pyramidal Platform" or a "Rainbowish sliding Platform", the game (to clarify, the game is in SM64 not TT64) will freeze ether when Mario gets near the platform I moved or right after he lands on the platform I moved.

I don't think that this is a collision data problem for two reasons:
1. These platforms have their own collision data
2. (Sometimes) Right before the game freezes, Mario does land on the platform. He's clearly standing on the platform, not going through it.

This may or may not happen in the other bowser courses with different kinds of platforms. In Bowser's second coarse, it probably happens with other platforms rather than the two I mentioned as I haven't used that many different kinds of platforms.

the emulator I'm using is PJ64, and the operation system I'm using is windows XP.

The tutorials for the new version should apply to the older version. You will find a few differences, and if a button the tutorial talks about doesn't exist, you'll know why. But as far as changing enemy's, it's exactly the same in the new version as in the old version.

The yellow tool bar isn't appearing? That's odd, it should appear. That yellow toolbar has been there since version 0.1!

Sorry for being impatient but... any idea when that will be? I've been checking this thread for over a month now hoping to see some updates on version 3.0. Do you have any idea when it may be finished. Don't worry, if you don't finish by then, I won't go like "OMG! HE MISSED HIS DATE! HOW COULD HE! THIS IS AWFUL! I HATE YOU!".

Every other patch I've used is in the form of an IPS file or a PPS file. (Yeah, I know it's different because it's Japanise, but that doesn't help me.) Has anyone figured out how to use these EXE files to patch a rom? Playing hacks myself is much more enjoyable to me than watching videos is.

Because boing believes that

1. The kirby music fits the level
2. That he shouldn't limit himself to only Mario music. (I think him and other hackers should limit themselves, but that's just my opinion and antoher story)

In the current version of TT64, the option to "import all textures from folder" is disabled. However, I seem to recall this not being the case in a previous version of TT64.

1. Is this true or is it just my memory fooling me?
2. Depending on the answer to question one, in what version of TT64 does the texture editor work?
3. Just out of curiosity, why was it removed?

I've checked the documention and everything else I can think of, and although I don't think I've missed anything, I'm really sorry if I overlooked the answer.

Thanks

Am I seriously the only person who wants an IPS patch of this. It's fun to watch videos on Youtube, but it's at least 1,000 times more fun to get to actually play the levels.

Treeki, I know the demand isn't high, but could you pleeeeese release the IPS anyway? I mean, it only takes a few minutes...
