I'm curious about the 3DS's encryption. For example, what parts of a 3DS ROM are encrypted? Is it everything or only certain parts? Do we even know what type of encryption method is used on 3DS ROMs? I've tried to find info about these but I have generally come up empty handed.

Nice hack. Its always interesting to see scrapped features in a game re-implemented.
Sorry to hear that the Super Mario Galaxy 2.5 project was canned. Its forum was friendly and lead to many interesting programs being created such as obj2bdl. I used it in my WW hack.
Embedding a video is a bit weird on Jul. The way I embed a video is to use the old embed code found under a youtube video. However, the video will never show up if I try to preview my reply. It only appears after I submit my reply. I kind of don't like that but I'm too lazy to actually complain about it.

Ah. That makes sense then. You read it before you watched it. I should read the novels since whether or not there will be more seasons of the anime is up in the air.

The project was aborted because it was too ambitious. You just can't create 49 new custom galaxies without a team like Nintendo's.
However it seems that the end of the project motivated some people to make standalone levels. We'll see how that turns out...
Also, the forum is still there. It just has the SMG2.5 section archived and closed.
I guess it's cancelation makes sense. From my experience with WW, it certainly takes a lot of time and energy to create even a single level, let alone multiple levels. It's difficult to devote time like that.
I would still consider the project a partial success if people are able to create a few custom levels. It's good to know that the forum is still up as well. I haven't checked it out in a while.

I haven't tried embedding a video in another browser. That might fix the problem unless I am just doing something stupid when I copy the embed code from YT. I'll test embedding in another browser the next time I have a video to embed .

Ok, here is an interesting question for people that I couldn't find a thread for (if it exists, I apologize). Music is such an intricate part of gameplay. It can set a mood for a scene and make you keep interest during gameplay. My question for those out there is the following. From whatever game, what is a memorable piece of music from that game that sticks in your mind and why (if you can answer why)? I'm hoping for some creative responses here. Like I said, you can choose whatever piece of music from whatever game but I'm hoping for responses more creative than "World 1-1 from SMB!!!". I'll start with a short list.
Puzzle Plank Galaxy Theme from Super Mario Galaxy 2:
This theme is pretty memorable to me just because of how upbeat it feels. It feels bright, happy and cheery like the galaxy it plays for. That isn't to say it is the best theme in the game. There are a ton of good themes in SMG2 and this is only one of them. This one has just been stuck in my head as of late so I might as well mention it.
Ambidexterity from Virtue's Last Reward:
Man, where do I begin with this theme? One of the many things that this game nails beautifully is making you feel like shit when you make a wrong choice (and sometimes even the right choice). To keep it simple for those who don't know, this music always plays when you are in the Prisoner's Dilemma portion of the game where you have to ally or betray another character. Simply put, if a character is betrayed enough times, they die. This rule also applies to the character you are playing as. So while you are thinking of whether or not to screw over some character or whether or not they will screw you over, this music ominously plays in the background... as if to say you are screwed no matter how you choose. Very memorable in my opinion.
Suitor Attacks from Amnesia- Justine:
I have got to say, I'm not really a fan of Amnesia. I just didn't care at all for the plot of the story. The only thing I give Amnesia credit for is being terrifying and it does that VERY well. Surprisingly, I thought that this small expansion for the game was better than the actual game. I just felt the story was easier to get into. This piece of music is crazy intense by itself. The fact that it plays when you are getting chased by suitors makes the game ridiculously intense, especially when saving the third hostage. Its like, no matter how quickly you try to move, you feel like you aren't moving fast enough.
That's my list for now but what is a memorable piece of gaming music to you and why?

So many good themes here !! Its fun to listen to them while reading what the poster has to say about them.
@Aerakin
Whether half joke or not, I think that this theme is pretty good. Its funny because near the end of the YT clip, the music seems to be building up to something epic and then it cuts off. I'm guessing that the theme loops again from there.
@Kak64
Oh man. That song is super nostalgic for me. DKC was the first video game I ever played.
@xdaniel
The Pokemon theme is also nostalgic for me as well. I had both Gold and Silver although Gold was my main game. Along with that I had a GBC, GBA and a link cable. I poured so much time trying to catch them all after the main game was completed. It sucks that the battery on those old games are dead now. All that time for nothing. Last time I checked(say the past year), I actually still had my Yellow and Blue saves from long ago. My Red version has had weird errors when starting it up that can wipe the save. Oh well.
@2Tie
So many at once! I love it . Even though I have barely played any Sonic games, I really do like the music in the old Genesis games. They are so... Genesisy.
@Lunaria
Its funny because I agree with you. It is really hard to only list a few pieces of music from just a few games. Speaking of which, lets keep the list rolling!!
Mystic Cave Zone from Sonic 2:
Since we were on the topic, here is one of my favorite Sonic themes. Like I said, I have barely played any Sonic games so I can't say much about them. That isn't to say that I dislike them. Its just that I've always been geared more towards Nintendo games. It is pretty fun to rush through levels as quick as you can. Watching speedruns (TAS or not) of Sonic games is pretty fun actually. This theme is, however, so kickass. I don't know why.
Red Velvet from Katawa Shoujo:
Welp since eroge was mentioned earlier, I might as well put this tune in here. This is such a good jazzy piece and is so memorable on its own. This theme plays in a few spots in the game which is usually when the main character is going out with whatever love interest. I've gotta say, despite that this is an eroge game, its not a cheap thrill. All of it is actually pretty well written. Just my opinion, but for those interested, the Lilly arc is probably the best of all of them. No spoilers but the ending is the most depressing and best ending out of all of it. If you don't shed at least one tear, you aren't human.
Quietus from 999:
Oh man, this theme. It plays when you get a game over for any of the bad endings. In most of those cases, the main character is killed off in some nasty/creepy way and it leaves you with more questions than answers. For example, "Why was the main character chosen to play in the Nonary Game?", "Whose behind the Nonary Game?" and "How will the characters get out of the game?". It makes you want to keep playing, not only to get all questions answered but to avoid facing the same fate the main character just received. So good.

Out of curiosity, I just tried out JDownloader with a Nintendo trailer from YT. It is pretty darn good at preserving the quality of YT videos although it is a little hard to tell if it is perfect.

Honestly, in my opinion, this Mario World prototype isn't worth it (especially for what $$ is being asked for it). First off, it is a prototype for the European release of the game which was the third (of 4) region to get the game. This was in 1992 while the game was originally released in Japan in 1990. The way I see it, the game was already made by this point. Any differences between the Japanese release and the European release will most likely be localization changes which is certainly not worth the money being asked for.

I don't know what it is but there is always so much nostalgia to this game for me whether it be from the music, sounds or whatnot.
But anyway, I'm not letting this thread die that easily! Its turning into a cool collage of experiences ! The next song I am placing here is definitely not the most creative but I made the rules myself to break the rules myself! I think it is deserving enough:
The Great Sea from The Wind Waker:
I love this overworld theme. It has adventure written all over it and makes the ocean feel vast. Where is my next destination? Ooooo what is on this random uncharted island? I just love the sense of exploration and this theme conveys that to me.

Kind of a coincidence but I once had a dream about somehow obtaining a SMW prototype which is funny in itself because I have never even documented anything for SMW (SNES) on TCRF. It would make more sense if I had dreamed about some Zelda prototype since I have documented a lot of Zelda stuff but no.
Anyway though, the only thing about the dream I can remember was that Luigi wouldn't let Mario be selected from the map to play any of the levels. I'm not really sure what that is suppose to signify . Might as well call this dream SLW.

Uhh... what?
I'm kind of failing to see how this is really a good idea. I mean, the 3DS can already play DS games, at least physical copies. Why would you want to play what were once handheld and mobile games only from your couch? Perhaps people have reasons but wouldn't it make more sense to offer DS titles digitally for the 3DS instead of the Wii U?
Didn't Nintendo also say at one point that they were going to add GBA games to the Wii U VC as well? That is another thing I don't understand for the same reasons as above. I hope Nintendo isn't thinking that all of this will help reel in sales for the Wii U.

Fair enough. I guess I am thinking about it differently. I just don't see why if the Wii U can have digital copies of DS games, the 3DS can't. To me, it is kind of like saying:
"Since the 3DS is 100% compatible with physical 3DS games, there isn't a point to having 3DS games available as a digital download on the eShop for the 3DS. Lets make them available for the Wii U instead."
I just feel it would be a better priority to have digital DS games available for the 3DS before the Wii U is what I am trying to say, not necessarily that the Wii U shouldn't get digital DS games. I hope I am making sense in my ramblings.
Originally posted by Xenesis I'll be honest, I like the idea if just because I've always wanted an official DS player. Heck, I bought myself one of these and used it a lot. So I can't say I'm not looking forward to more DS games on the telly.
That looks rather interesting. Recording crisp gameplay footage from a handheld is not a straight forward thing. I'm actually curious how it works ! Time to look into the details of this.

In my mind, I would always be nervous of this. I mean, not just the person selling this prototype but any person who sells any prototype in general. Once the person meets their quota, who is to say they won't just disappear? I wish there was a more secure way of handling the release of prototypes.

...
Yeah yeah, lame joke I know. I found Jul through TCRF. I decided to register because there was this huge thread dissecting Wind Waker stuff here. It was, more or less, an extension of TCRF to me at the time so it seemed logical to be apart of it. I guess the only thing surprising to me is that I am still here after almost 2 years. I wouldn't have thought I would still be checking this site out regularly.
