Well that was a short lived prank as nintendo1ds.com is already down.

Here is something that I had long forgotten and then recently remembered about the 3DS. It can be used as an MP3 player. It would be a cool feature to use if the battery life lasted longer and the 3DS had a higher volume output.

Apart from the known issue of the site constantly "experiencing technical difficulties", it might be worth knowing that there is no paypal button on the donate page of TCRF. I guess it really isn't a technical issue with the website but I imagine that it can't be helpful for Xkeeper to leave that page as is.

I had heard that, but I couldn't find any such feature.
It is part of the 3DS Sound software. You simply drag an MP3 file into your SD card from your computer (literally just put it in the first directory of the SD card). When you load 3DS Sound, you will see an option that says something like "SDCARD" on the touch screen where you can play whatever you put onto your SD card. If you wear headphones you can close your 3DS and listen to whatever you play.

Well speaking of weird spawn points, here is an unused spawn point for Link inside Jabun's room.

http://i.imgur.com/1Yt87nt.png

Actually, to be accurate, the spawn point is outside of the room highlighted in red on the left. It is a strange place for a spawn point and it even has collision under it. That sphere in the background that is also outside of the room and a little right to Link's spawn point is apparently a spawn point of the KORL.

The room is in the group "Pjavdou" if anyone is interested.

For GanonK, it is another way to go up. No rope, but flowers for propelling through the air. The platforms show that it is test objects.
Some interesting actor setups here like Ganon's room and the hull of the ship with the Stalfos. I guess the actor stuff for Outset Island isn't just errors. Kargaroc mentioned that some of the barriers on the path up to the forest don't properly line up with the final Outset Island. These barriers are present in DmSpot0 but I wonder if these barriers actually line up with DmSpot0 as well or if they clip into the wall. Do you get what I am trying to say? I am basically wondering if these actor setups are from before the E3 version of Outset Island was created. I would be interested to know.

By the way, how many rooms have you check out actor setups for?

An E3 2002 demo have the answer to this question.

Couldn't this be tested by moving actor setups from one room to another? Couldn't you use a hex editor to add in actor setup data from the final Outset Island and move it to DmSpot0 to see if any of the actors clip into the walls?

I'm a bit of an idiot but lets start simple. What are the specific steps to decompile a GBA ROM? I downloaded the plugin that interdpth listed and placed them into a plugin folder but trying to turn the plugin on or off does nothing for me.

Posted on 09-07-13 10:37:45 PM, in This is why I don't want to teach Kindergarten. Ever. Link
In my mind, if I were to become a teacher, I would either want to teach for elementary school students(Say grades 2-5) or later high school students(Say juniors or seniors). I feel that teaching for 1st grade and below would be a pain because the kids might not listen to you because they are so young. I'd rather teach them though rather than middle school students(grades 6-8) or even early high school students(freshman and sophomore). They can't think straight because they are going through puberty. Some of those kids can also be a pain in the ass and seem to do what they can to go against what teachers want. This fact is multiplied by 1000 when there is a substitute teacher. I remember some pretty stupid shit when I was in middle school...

Like I said, juniors and seniors would be the best to teach. Those students are usually mellowed out and won't go out of their way to go against a teacher. If those group of students don't want to learn, they usually won't bother teachers about it. They will mind their own business.

I'm not an actual teacher but I think my point of view is relatively accurate although I would be interested to hear someone else's point of view if they disagree.

I never knew that about the Wii. A cool feature I suppose although, if I 'm going to listen to music, I''d rather listen to it on my iPod than from a TV and the same can be said for the 3DS. What doesn't make sense to me is why the Wii had DVD playback cut. I mean, apparently all the hardware is there to do it and I don't see why it wasn't implemented. That could have been a useful feature compared to playing MP3s.

How far have you gone? Are youo still just loading the file into IDA?

Also brief note: I got the ARM version wrong; it's actually ARMv4T, not ARMv7-A&R; this doesn't seem to affect the correctness of documentation, but still :/
So far I can only get the file loaded as a binary although I'm not even sure if I am loading it with the right settings. Probably not since the plugin doesn't seem to do anything for me. I'll try to follow the instructions you listed in your post in that thread more carefully. That will probably help . For now, I won't be able to do anything about it until Friday. If something still doesn't work then I will see if you are on IRC or I will just post something here.

I realize the garbled graphics are likely an emulator-specific random happening, but I'm curious as to where the text is being pulled from in the ROM, as this appears to a port of the "Fantasy World" 9-1 intro text that appears in FDS Super Mario Bros. 2 after beating world 8 without using warps. However, this screen never appears (to my recollection) in SMAS. Interesting that there were quotation marks in the original FDS game's font graphics, but apparently not in SMAS-SMB's.
I've never played SMAS in full but I don't think that world 9 is unused according to this article from Mario Wiki and according to this youtube video. These references both indicate that world 9 is reachable using the same method you listed. Of course, I can't confirm this directly myself but these sources seem legit.

Here is something I kind of touched upon in another thread but not here. This is from 999 found in the file debug_c.dat. It would be cool if all the meaningful Japanese text could be translated but, at the very least, I need a confirmation. Does a majority of the Japanese text in here describe states of emotion? If so, I have an idea what this file is related to.

I am still tweaking and revising the main page for 999 but when I am done with that I plan to add whatever I can learn here about this file to that page.

Good to know and confirms what I thought about the file. To sum it up, the file is basically composed of strings for character debugging. With that information, I think it is a safe assumption that the "c" in "debug_c.dat" stands for character. I will most likely get this information up on the page on Friday.

Thanks!

Its cool that Wind Waker HD is out now (at least the digital version) so a whole new audience/generation can enjoy the game. I'll be interested in trying out that hard mode this version of the game offers. I have yet to get a Wii U so when I finally do get one (whenever that will be), this game will be on my list for sure.

The first question is subjective and it really depends on how much you value the extra battery life. Looking at Wikipedia, the 3DS XL can offer about 0.5 to 1.5 hours of extra battery life compared to the original 3DS when playing 3DS games. To put it in a quantitative sense, is spending an extra $30 for an extra 0.5 to 1.5 hours of battery life worth it to you? If yes then get the XL or if no, get the original. Speaking for myself, I already had the original and I didn't upgrade to the XL because the extra battery life wasn't worth it to me. I tend to be power conservative with my 3DS and can get 5 hours of play time out of it when fully charged. Its rare for me to be playing on my 3DS for 5 hours straight and in the cases that I do actually play that long, I'm at home near an outlet.

A benefit of getting the original is that you saved $30 that you can spend towards a game .

I can't think of any huge or hidden benefits to getting the XL that aren't obvious(eg. Larger Screens). Hopefully someone who has an XL will comment on what they like about it to help give you a better idea of what you'd want to get.

@UselessGhost
I can't believe I forgot this important tidbit and will reemphasize it. I hate how glossy the original 3DS is. The thing smudges and sucks fingerprints off you like light traveling into a black hole. Even if you consciously keep your hands clean, there are always smudges that appear on the console and the screen. This is especially true when you play for an extended time because your hands get sweaty. The XL doesn't suffer from that issue and that is a definite plus in my book.

I can't understand why Nintendo keeps making products with gloss that you constantly have to touch. You can get away with gloss for home consoles(eg Wii) since you don't constantly touch or handle them but for controllers and handhelds(eg Wii remote, Nunchuck, 3DS) that you have to constantly touch, all the finger prints and smudges make them look gross...
