Just a few months away from release. Going to be interesting how Disney handles this movie. I'm personally hoping that the fight sequences are better than the prequel trilogy (and therefore, way better than the originals). Just don't abuse the slowdown.

News to me. It doesn't seem anyone has noticed either, so it would be nice to find these sources. Because we've never found any place on the Internet that has even a mention of unused content for Baten Kaitos, it's kind of hard for us to know where to begin with the unused content.

That's rather interesting. My first instinct is to search for any time interrupts are called for the keyboard. Seeing as this was made with Turbo Pascal, it shouldn't be too hard to look into this.

Haven't found the way to activate the easter egg yet, but I did find something a little strange with the controls. There's an alternate set of controls that's likely the result of making sure the user can still control the game with Caps Lock on/the Shift key held.

Left - 7, Home
Rotate - 8, Up
Right - 9, Page Up
Speed Up - 6, Right
Draw Next - 1, End
Drop - 4, Space, Left

6/6/2015: Still jack squat here. This easter egg likely relies on a keyboard buffer to activate it. Sisu, I'm curious if you know anything about MS DOS programs in general.

Granted, he's the co-founder of Rare, but there could be ramifications for him dumping that cart. I was pleased just to know it existed.

As for that picture, wouldn't be unlikely Dino Planet is among those carts, but it's hard to tell what's in there due to the lackluster lighting.

Believe it or not, someone uploaded pictures of these to the wiki a long time ago. However, I don't think they were actually posted on a page.

Here are the aforementioned images.

Bump-a-loo.

I should mention I'm searching around Version 3.12, the latest version of Tetris on MS-DOS. I had no luck whatsoever in find the keys I was supposed to press to access it.

Vadim also has the original version, which I also have. It's important to know which version to search for, as the two have differences here and there. This is particularly true with the title screen and the game settings.

I never heard of Wizard101 or Pirate101 before, to be honest. I might take a look into it, since it uses the Gamebryo engine.

One thing to note is that World of Warcraft page is being worked on heavily by one user, who has been documenting a lot of the stuff in that game and will continue adding stuff until all of the unused things known about it are on there. It's not on the main subspace yet, due it being very incomplete.

So, it turns out that Norway will be shutting down their analog FM radio transmissions in 2017.

I know I sound like I'm seventy or something saying this, but it isn't too relieving to find out that I may have to use a converter to continue listening to the radio. Then again, a lot of countries have already switched television signals from analog to digital. It's only a matter of time before radio has the same fate.

I still use AM or FM radio every now and then for my alarm clock. I also hear it when I'm in a car (not my car, necessarily). It's much more soothing than a buzzer.

I'm not exactly the most talented with this but...

You really need to know x86 assembly. So it's a good thing you're reading the book.

The first major tool is IDA Pro Free. It's based on IDA Pro 5.0 and is rather limited, but it works well if all you want to do is dissect some old games. IDA Pro itself was updated to include programs that have DOS4GW included within the executable. However, IDA Pro can be quite expensive (in other words, at least $1129 US or €1019). There's also IDA Starter, but that's quite a bit more limited (although still good for 32-bit x86 apps) and still quite expensive (in other words, at least $589 US or €529)).

DOSBOX can be configured to be a debugger in its source code. A binary of it is available in the VOGONS forum. Lacking that, Try a number of other debuggers available . Seriously though, there are a lot of them, due to the sheer popularity of DOS among 90's programmers.

For PKLite or LZ9x compressed executables, 9 times out of 10, you can use UNP 4.1.2 .

I also have a rare extractor program (Extractor by Nova Software), which I use sometimes on older games. It's designed for mid-2000's Windows computers though, so it may act a little funky on your side. The site for it is down and I'm not sure if I should upload it anywhere (Here's a temporary link. Download it while you can..

If there's anything else, bring it up here and hopefully someone far more knowledgeable than me will appear.

Pressing ''Alt'' and '''Pause/Break''' when the DOSBox windows is selected causes the program to pause/break, thus allowing the debugger to be used. Pressing "F5" when the debugger window is selected unpauses it and continues normal operation.

Just from the text mode screen where I can select my options, the program is constantly referring to the Programmable Interrupt timer, constantly. From the beginning of the program, this is mostly just for the moving picture of Cool Coyote in the background.

So, with DOSBox's debugger, I can see the program is running code from segment 01A5, so I dump the memory from that segment, as well as the one next to it. The CS register is what appears to be holding that number.

If I want to dump the memory and view it in a program, I need to click on the debugger windows and type "memdumpbin 01a5:0000 (the length of the memory you want to dump in bytes)" in there (without quotation marks). The aforementioned command is to be typed from DOSBox's debugger. 0000 is the beginning of segment 01A5, while the length I chose is 400000.

This dumps the memory into a .bin file called memdump. On my version, this is in the same directory as I put the debug binary in.

There's an old, but useful, program called Tile Molester. With it, I determined that the graphics are 8bpp planar in memory (oddly enough, that's with 16-color VGA). I can see the font used by the game, but not much else. Tile Molester, by default, splits things into 8x8 blocks. Make sure you set the mode to 1-dimensional. All of this is set under the 'View' menu in that program.

One last thing, here's the text for the program set-up that I could extract:

"Please select control method:.#.O1) Keyboard.#.O2) Joystick.
..O Please select video mode: .#.O1) VGA 16 .#.O2) EGA 16 .
..O Please select music: .#.O1) Roland .#.O2) SoundBlaster .#.O3) Beeper .#.O4) No music .
SoundBlaster"

So yeah, it's likely the music data is split into at least three parts.

Oh yeah, and don't forget about the hex editor. You can use that for searching through memdump.bin. There are a huge number of hex editors out there, but the ones I use are HxD and MadEdit.

EDIT: Here's some info on the MZ header.

Both my laptop and my desktop have Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit.

As for emulated/virtualized stuff, there is Mac OS 9(.0.4) and Ubuntu 14.

Heard of PSO way back when, but I never did pick it up. The servers are shut down though (for the Dreamcast and the GameCube). I didn't hear about PSO2 before, but I think the Dreamcast and GameCube games might have something too.
