Probably not beta but just another oddity. I was playing around with MK2 and used cheats to make myself start at Shao Kahn, but in the second round I changed him into Kintaro and beat him. This let me continue to the space on the fight ladder above Shao Kahn. For some reason it was Kung Lao. After I beat him I moved up again and the game crashed. Wonder why there's a spot even above Shao Kahn?

I need to try it again to see if it always defaults to Kung Lao. In the SNES hacks that let you play as secret characters all the ending text goes back to Kung Lao so he could very well be set up as an internal fall back character.

Here's a promo video with a few beta things in it. If you look in the background at 0:44 you can see some statues that are unused in the final version. There's also alot of P2 color palettes used in non mirror matches.

Awesome stuff that. When they aren't trolling about stuff like Stop n Swop Rareware's members have always been pretty cool about stuff in their games. David Wise has an active blog and has answered several questions about his works, unused songs in Rare games and other media.

I read the KI2 wiki page and read about some of the things you guys have found, very interesting. I wish there had been more mention of the characters from Killer Instinct 1. One thing I didn't like about the second game was how they pretty much axed all the interesting characters and replaced them with tribal folks. Judging by the lack of mention of them in the game's code I guess they decided to axe them pretty early on.

Believe it or not I played around with this very thing a few years ago. I also found that the game stores the level and an enemy set separately which is how the demo has Green Cyber Copters appearing on level one. There may be unused enemy placement sets lying around in there. There is also an unused region warning in the game's data as well.

Does the debug menu allow you to control the NPCs at all ? I remember a guy had gotten it working so you could control the monks on an MK forum a few years back but I never tried it out.
