Is there an area I'm missing that lists translations available for specific languages? So far besides looking in Recent Changes and happening upon a translation being done, I can't figure out what is translated to what.

Simon_Belmont never sold him a reproduction, he only sold the ROM for $2500. That repro is something Jayfenwick's friend made for him. Just so that's cleared up.

I'm the one heading the Contra fundraiser, I'm not sure how Assembler is allowing ours but it may have something to do with me not being a new user there, whereas Jayfenwick had only like 30 posts or so by the time he was banned. Plus the whole topic was only a couple sentences basically saying "I have the ROM, I want $1500 for its release," when most fundraiser topics usually are a bit more wordy with details so that the people reading can feel more assured.

I feel bad for the guy spending so much but I don't know why he'd choose to just run away. Get a feeling we may have lost this proto, now. Simon_Belmont really shouldn't be selling ROMs unless it's a community effort where it goes public after being paid for. Just giving it to one person after having been burdened with such a huge price tag clearly doesn't work out well.

Just to sidestep all of this for a sec, I just want to point out this completely unreleased and unannounced Genesis proto was recently released.

http://www.retrocollect.com/News/prototype-sega-mega-drive-game-frog-dude-rom-released-by-original-twilight-programmer.html

Wonder if there's anything further hidden away in there besides the one stage.

Never heard of a C&D sent to that site. You're saying you know who bought it? Or you only know that the eBay bidder was a proxy agent?

I can't work out how JP people obtaining a proto means they can send a C&D to a website. More details plz.

That whole debacle was a mess, coupled with misplaced enthusiasm for something that clearly was from some years AFTER the original Japanese release of the original Pokemon, which pretty much says everything about the chances it was anything interesting.

It's great when prototypes have dates like that so you can know to avoid them and not waste your time. If you ever see a date that's later than the original Japanese release of a game, or if it's a prototype that shows the name of the localization name for a game (i.e there was a "Mystical Ninja" proto for N64 with Japanese on it and everything, but it turned out to just be a final of the English version), it's safe to say you shouldn't waste your money.

I've been buying protos for some years now and have learned this lesson the hard way.

Not sure it warrants a thread, but I have this scan of an early preview of Pulseman I thought I'd share.

GoldS found graphics for the earlier iteration of that first boss in the ROM, I believe.

This comes from an issue of Beep! Megadrive. I have all issues from November 93 to January 95 (final issue), so if anyone wants me too look out for early versions of anything that would have been previewed between then, feel free to let me know.

In case anyone missed it, there's an Aladdin prototype for Genesis out now.

http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?showtopic=35935

Perhaps another job for GoldS?

This game is a translation project I've been working on with esperknight back at the romhacking.net forums for a few years now. It's been on and off, and now it's back on again. We're hoping to release it soon enough.

In the meantime, I've been re-familiarizing myself with the game's lost content which I found and put up on the wiki some time back. I've always suspected that the cut playable character in the debug room might still be playable, considering how much else was left in the game's data.

I've tried this randomly through the past few years and haven't had luck, though. I have corrupted savestates and messed around to get the one you see in the debug room to display other animations, but that's about it.

Are there any PSX hackers here that can help out? I tried contacting MarkGrass but they're too busy to make time for this I think, so I'm hoping someone else familiar with PSX hardware can maybe figure out more than I'm capable of merely using the PEC cheat plugin.

PM me or find me on the IRC channel for more info if you're feeling kind

Just remembered there's also still text remaining in the game for when you first meet this other playable character, and a rip of the game's graphics shows the unused characters graphics in the data folder for the area that text is used, so it would appear the original event may be possibly to trigger.

Just adding this as it'd be a nice start and possibly less complicated than activating the character immediately. Who knows.

The signature is impossible to make out, but if you have a staff list or list of whatever people's name would likely be there, I'd say the top Kanji is likely one of the ones with legs like you see there. Could be 矢、天、文、夫、 or something else.

I got a code that seems to display a couple unused text events when you enter the right value, but those right values are few and far between and usually just crashes the game or does nothing.

So yeah.... still hoping someone can help out as a lot of unused text clearly is still programmed in there.

Speaking for Genesis, a good majority of all the Sega Q&A archives drx released back in 2008 have not been properly documented or given any attention. I wrote the articles for the Bonkers protos some years ago (probably more can be find inside the ROMs that are beyond my ability), but besides that all the less popular games that aren't first-party or from a popular dev haven't been covered much.

To give an example of what's missing, there's different protos of Xmen 2 which differ completely from the final game. That Berenstein Bears or whatever they're called have several protos that differ from finals. More that's not coming to mind.

I guess it comes down to who likes those games to begin with, since I can't get myself to care about them.

I recently obtained all demo discs of this short lived magazine and have shared them on the Assembler forums. Thought I'd point them out here since there could be something of interest that people would want to look into here.

http://assemblergames.com/l/threads/tech-playstation-all-demo-discs.63730/

As the thread says, I don't have a list of contents, but I'm sure anyone that have a favorite game from 1997 may find something of interest in there.

Still would be neat to get that lost level working again. It seems the data is still there. Probably will require someone with very intimate knowledge of the hardware to have to code things back into a working order, though.

Well, yeah, but I don't understand why you're asking this question. Just because we know it was previewed somewhere doesn't mean we have any more information on how to find a beta copy anywhere. What sort of answer do you want? Are you saying the magazine that previewed it also included a demo disc?

How is that a scan? It's clearly a website. It even has a website link that's highlighted in blue and underline. And that screenshot isn't of the missing village in gameplay, it looks like it's just a still shot of the FMV that's been screenshotted and terribly shrunk. None of this is making sense.

Edit: And the text is lifted straight from the wikipedia page for it!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomba!

Seriously, what's the point of faking this? Because you think making up a magazine scan will somehow magically make a prototype appear? This is just ridiculous.

You can find a fule opener for seq files??? Maybe theres leftover music!!!

So this website only just existed a couple days ago and now suddenly doesn't exist at all?

FYI, from my searching on the internet, that's never been a valid website ever. It's not archived on archive.org, and typing it into the address bar brings up the same thing you get when you type in a name of a website that's never existed such as websitedontexistandyouarelying.com.

Just admit you made all of this up and be done with it. I don't get why you're trying to keep up with this facade.

I don't feel like trawling through all of this thread's pages to find out, but since our temp banned friend mentioned learning programming just to be able to recreate the game with what was left on this SFA disc, I just want to ask is that even feasible to begin with? From what I recall reading back in this threads prime, the whole game is not there, specifically the main exe that would have all the coding.

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
