I've already explored the files to my best ability, which isn't much. This is one of those games that doesn't have a whole tree, it's only four files: MOON.DA(I think this stores most of the games graphics), MOON.DAT(game's text uncompressed, all sound effects and voices, some dream sequence graphics and TIM files), MOON.STR(all of the games music) and SLPS_010.31(all games have one of these I guess =p).

Tile Molester can't view anything in MOON.DA, though I think at 1bpp you can faintly make out individual character pieces. Probably compressed? And I have zero idea on how people figure out how to view things like this. PSicture is the only program i can find that isn't exclusively to find TIM files, and it finds nothing on the disc. So yeah...I'm pretty much hopeless on my own at the moment for finding anything else on here.

Files out of the disc? I've extracted nothing from MOON.DA since I think it's all graphics and I have no idea how to decompress them and extract them. All the stuff on MOON.DAT, well the text you can just view through notepad, and the sound effects I just used PSound, and other graphics I used Tile molester(this only shows just a few things) and any other general TIM program to see the TIM files. So as you can see, I haven't really done anything technical to get what I have so far :x

Yeah I've tried Tile Molester, each separate mode, each at 1 or 2 dimensions. Seems anything that does display does indeed use 2 dimensions, but that's still not much. Just some dream sequence backgrounds appear in MOON.DAT, plus the record covers. I looked at MOON.DA in a hex editor and it looks like there's a pattern going on for compression. But I know nothing at all for figuring any of that out. At the moment I'm trying a corrupter program to mess with savestates, but that's not making too much progress.

I imagine the only way anyone will probably care more about this game is if it were translated to English, but no one's done that yet. If anyone ever did though I'll definitely be there to translate, and to bug them about finding all the unused stuff =p

Wow, Zelda TOOT hacking is on its way to reaching the same level of Mario 64 hacking. Pretty impressive stuff!

I'm a little confused since this forum is public itself, so how is this behind the scenes?

If I'm getting it, this is just a comparison of character portraits between the Wii and original versions or something? I'm wondering what's so secret..

Seems like this thread should just be renamed "general discoveries," since not even half of it is really "weird" but just something someone found =p

I messed with the Dynamite Headdy beta for Genesis and got the level select value. It's stored in FFE8C3. Setting it to 38 brings you to the secret last level not normally accessible in the level select. Looks the same as the final except no enemies attacking you, not even loaded into VRAM. Setting it to 42 will bring up an early version of the character roll call ending. Some of the animations that play are different from the final. It skips the enemies from the sky level, which shows even more that that level just wasn't implemented yet. Also ends before covering all the characters.

Can't find the bonus round so from what I see the game doesn't really hide anymore, unless they're buried in there somewhere.

I'm lazy to take pics and make add this to the wiki right now =p

Has anyone come up with a level code for the JP version of the game? If the level comes up in that area list then it seems like something might remain, especially if the graphics are in the JP version still.

I've tried for awhile now but can't seem to find any value that stores what area you're in. Have had much better luck with other games, this one's a pain :X

Well, I've probably wasted like three hours here. I can't believe how hard it is to find such a simple value.

Surely there's someone that knows a bit of hacking past cheat finding that can easily locate the needed value?

I'll probably try again later, but this seems hopeless.

Well, I officially give up. Probably went like 8 hours total on this!

Some other PSX expert's gonna have to take this up. Whoever you hopefully turn out to be, you'll be my hero

BTW I don't know how known it is, but there's an early demo of the game on a demo disc you can download on the net called Yoi Ko to Yoi Otona no. PlayStation Taikenban Vol.2. Music is different a bit in instrumentation. According to the game folders there's only AREA00 on the disc, so you can't access anywhere else unfortunately. Still, for Tomba fans it's an interesting glimpse at the game in an earlier form.

Edit: Also should mention the SLPS file on the disc has this in it:

AREA SELECT = %02d SECTION SELECT = %02d

I wonder if it's still accessible..

If you have a level modifier code, I take it you went through all values and fount nothing then?

I'm sure I know what demo disc you're talking about for the US version, think a lot of us discovered it through there I used to play it all the time, seemed unusually long for a demo. But the original JP version would be the one to check for any unused stuff since you never know what was cut down for the US release.

What do you mean by "I never really cheated on it." ? You didn't figure out how to activate that level select screen I take it?

Looking forward to the code!

Well, if you want someone to list the what values go where for the level select, I can help relieve you of that =p But either way sounds like you found stuff and we'll be getting it soon enough. Can't wait!

No idea if that area select thing works in the JP version, wish i could say I turned up anything. Sadly the most I found was the RAM value that controls how fast music plays in game. Not exactly that exciting.

Do all towns have TIM files on the disc? One program I used only showed one TIM file for the Baccus Village area, while another showed I think seven different ones, but they were all rendered glitched up so I couldn't tell if it was every area or not.

In my impatience I've messed with CDmage trying to replace files seeing if I can access different areas that way, but I just keep getting crashes or screwed up textures.

It will be interesting if any of these unused areas exist with unused text still. I found this thread...

http://forums.x-cult.org/topic/2591-unused-itemsareas-in-tomba-psx/

..and from what I understand, all event text has been found showing no unused ones, so I take it even if the town were on the disc still, it's likely devoid of any interactions.

Posted on 03-26-13 10:38:05 PM, in I've stumbled across something odd while ROM Corrupting Metal Head on 32x. Link
I guess I'm not alone, I just discovered the Vinesauce program and have been ROM corrupting too. I ended up trying Garfield Caught in the Act and got a ROM build date of 9-14-1995 to appear on the title that you don't usually see.

http://oi45.tinypic.com/2eveni1.jpg

Now if it'd only work with n64 ROMs, Would love to screw with a 3D game, but they refuse to load properly!

Nah, it's just me sweating in anticipation. Don't take it the wrong way =p

If you end up with time troubles again, can I request you at least post the code and the list of what you have atm? I'm assuming you're trying to document the entire list of possible values, but I'm sure most people will only use the code to access these unused areas anyway.

It freezes the game when I input them while playing, so these are meant to be inserted when you're in the middle of the loading screen? When is it best to load them? Keep getting freezes everywhere I try.

I can't imagine what I'm doing wrong here, it doesn't seem to load anything correctly. This would be the code if I want to get into the Iron Town, wouldn't it?

8009E508 0011
8009E50A 0001

I enter that at the title and then press start, it loads Tomba walking into the tower that has that door you need to bomb inside. Once he walks into there and it loads the next screen it freezes. Doesn't seem to be going to the Iron Town.

So close yet still feels so far away, I'm going go looney =p

OK, I enter that code exactly at the title now.

I press start.

FMV comes on, I go and deactivate cheating.

I press start to skip the FMV now and hopefully enter the level.

It just shows a black screen with the first level music playing.

Maybe this really is an April Fools joke :x Please tell me there's something I'm doing wrong. I'm so lost. There must be other people trying this. Anyone?

I never knew that way of doing it before. It seems to still load Tomba walking into that tower with all the bells and chains wrapped around it, goes to a loading screen, then drops him in the room with that rusted door that needs a bomb. I copied the code exactly as I posted up there.

Now I'm really running out of ideas...

Wait, so the lost village that's shown in the unused FMV wasn't found then?

I'd really suggest just posting specifically what areas are unused that you found as at the moment I can't tell what we've been waiting all this time for :x I'm getting so frustrated right now...

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
