In a new article on GlitterBerri, I track down a certain Final Fantasy VII developer to ask him about the unused Travelling Salesman side quest cut from the game. He also comments on the making of the highly acclaimed PSX title, and details his thoughts on why JRPGs are being derided today.

The person in the video says (theorizes?) that the debug ROM belonged to someone at Nintendo of Europe, who used it to test the game in order to release the Ocarina of Time: Master Quest edition on the Gamecube. That person gave it to a friend, and the friend waited a year or two before giving it to some other friends, one of whom decided to dump or sell it.

Haha! Thanks for sharing your story, that's amazing.

For the record, I removed the original video without watching it because it was 15 minutes long, titled "SaGa Frontier Review/Retrospective", and was obviously made by the poster, all of which made it pretty clear that it wasn't relevant. We have a bot that posts in IRC when someone edits the wiki, so I saw it when he posted it and took it down right away.

Does he still think we were in the wrong for removing the vid, or did you manage to get through to him?

I think he's definitely got some online ridicule coming for his obnoxious behavior, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that he deserves to be doxxed or harassed IRL. That's pretty horrible for anyone, and, like Kon says, drags people into it who were never involved.

It's not a replacement. According to OKeijiDragon, the original apparently still exists, untouched, and will be released in the future. The team behind the companion project just released their WIP because they were forced to let the cat out of the bag due to someone working in the shadows, trying to monetize it against their will.

So, no need to get on the "YOU RUINED SOMETHING PRICELESS" bandwagon until we know more!
