Thanks kindly. It will also help people find the game's thread easily so they don't go making their own to post their own discoveries when there's one already existing.

Great stuff so far, by the way!

Haven't played the game, but I'm still enjoying looking at your findings. I'm sure I'll have a lot more to say when I get around to it.

[16] ~ [19] Waiting Room Battle Use

These songs were actually made for a different purpose, originally. By that I mean that there are countries where Japanese songs are forbidden, and because we needed other songs for those places, we made these ones for that purpose. In previous installments in the series, the melody and orchestra had separate channels, so we handled that by doing karaoke versions without the melody, but this game used streams, so we weren't able to do the same thing again. However, ???, and due to space issues karaoke versions were impossible, leaving the game what it is today.
There were a lot of space constraints, so the number of songs was few and they weren't very long. Performing these in the arcades, we also encountered the same issues, which is pretty sad to think about... (;_;)

---

Pretty tired, I'll complete the ??? part tomorrow.

Again, could you possibly put the game name in the title when you make threads for the benefit of people who don't immediately know what that stands for?

And, unless I'm mistaken, I barely got any feedback for the Link's Awakening shots. (Unless someone left a list of differences as a comment on my site, in which case it was unfortunately lost when my host lost a server.) Would anyone be kind enough to point differences out for these?

Where, exactly, does it warp you to?

Always did think that was a bit odd, that there's a door that just leads out of the level. Normally the levels are "enclosed"; there's no exit, only getting a star/dying/using the menu to get out. If you get sucked in, it's like death, losing your progress if you were collecting 100 coins and so forth, but you don't lose a life and get kicked out like normal death. I wonder if it was supposed to lead to a third section of the level at one point?

There is the flying cap level you access by looking at the sun painted on the ceiling in the castle foyer, as well as the flying cap bonus red coin level near Rainbow Ride. I believe that if you fall out of those, you get dumped in front of the castle outside.

If everyone skipped at that intersection
If everyone joined hands in the middle of that town and looked up at the sky
If you want to take a chance, somewhere in that town
It's still too early to cry, all you can do is continue forward, no no

Come out with a PON PON
Not to do it would be boring
Put on headphones and ride the rhythm
Open the way to my path

Pon pon, keep going with everything
Are you listening? Throwing away
your feelings? Who's the bad kid?
Yeah, you're a good kid
Ah, you make me happy

Every day PON
Every time is PON
I want to ride a merry-go-round
Every day PON
Every time is PON
Maybe that's bad

PON PON way way way
PON PON way PON way PON PON
way way PON PON PON

I doubt disc space is much of an issue. As long as it fits on one disc, making it smaller doesn't really make any difference. (If anything, they'd want to make it larger... at least that makes piracy a little more difficult.)

Quite a few games, mainly on the GC. Did a quick search of what I've got in my ISOs folder... Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Sunshine, Double Dash (iirc there were issues with one or both of the last two - they were for debug binaries and not the final game), Animal Crossing GC (all versions)...

Do you mean that the final version of Super Mario Sunshine and Double Dash are actually still debug versions?

One Wii game (Prince of Persia something-or-other) has the game binary on-disc as an .elf file, including all symbols. Earlier versions of the Wii System Menu included a .sel file (exports for linking shared objects) with every single function, but Nintendo pared it down to a small amount of symbols in later versions.

What are these symbols you speak of, out of curiosity? I'm not sure I quite understand.

Just look at Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda and Metroid on the NES, there was almost nothing to discover. It was impossible to waste with free space of the game, but over time the programmers are left to go, especially when 3D games arrived.

Somewhat related, I've just been translating an article that says the following:

Nintendo's original goal in developing the Disk System was to offer players casual games at low prices. However, once software development began, the staff realized how much more memory capacity they had to work with compared to the MASK ROMs of the time.

The first title compatible with the Disk System was the pinoeering Famicom role-playing game known as The Legend of Zelda. (Fig. 3) Despite its status as the first game released on the Disk System, The Legend of Zelda turned out to be an epic title that made full use of the 256 kB of available memory. Whatever had become of Uemura's desire to offer players casual games...?

Once the first 256 kB game had been developed, it was hard to go back. The golden age of role-playing games such as Dragon Quest that followed shortly afterward also contributed to the acceleration of game software memory expansion.

And a belated thank you to everyone who tried to explain debug symbols to me.

This is a draft of the previous work. It actually took us quite some time to arrive at this plan. Yeah, making games is truly hard work! But the first time we demo'd it at a location test and I saw how pleased the kids were to play our game, I knew I wouldn't be able to stop doing this kind of work. Customers are truly gods.

Pocket Monsters RPG has no trace of existence, either. I did a bunch of research on the Japanese internet about it and went so far as to ask Junichi Masuda about it on Twitter at someone's behest, and he had no idea what I was talking about. It was just the development name for Pokémon Crystal, iirc.

Another misunderstanding to add to the list.

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
