I used to think the same thing.
But you see.
I chose Rainbow Dash because she is pretty much me. I was unsure because they never fully flushed out her personality, but they showed a lot in the newest episode.

The design's correct name is "Ditzy Doo" but the fan canon character "derpy hooves" was due to an animation error in the first episode.

Now that I've watched the latest episode, I really don't like how they purposely made Derpy wall-eyed. It really ruins the feel of her in my opinion.
