I'm sorry but what? Nintendo has been just as worse as Sony with their ports. Considering that when they announced the 3DS half the line-up was "old game 9292392.... IN 3D", I don't see how that now Sony is going to do any worse in that regard (except now it going to be .... "this game.... IN SUPER PORTABLE HD")
Teyla: big deal. "derp derp derp no backwards compatibility lolololo" I'm just plain tired of that. I've said it before: expected every darn company to support their ~7 years old system in the next gen is just annoying. Besides, that complain was already made with PSP GO and made much more sense, seeing as it wasn't another system entirely.
Andddddddd, putting an UMD drive on that thing would just make it bulkier and much less portable.

Seems to me that there's complaining because lol Sony. Of course there aren't gonna be tons of games announced or anything. That's what conventions or stuff like the E3 is for, plus it's only released in a year.

Also I will stand by this point is why there getting rid of the UMD drive: the breakage of the drives and the breakage of the disc protectors.
Not to mention the fact that UMD is a sucky format in general, and that using disks on an handheld device is a terrible idea.
Plus, with the design of the PSP2, it would be difficult to put such a drive.
The far larger issue nobody seems to really get is that many games that got UMD releases aren't on PSN.
I agree it is an issue, but not so much with the PSP2. As for the PSP Go? Yeah, that's just plain stupid

The more room you take up for being compatible with older systems, the less room you have for more useful stuff, like having a good system. Besides, "people" have proven to be unrealistic and stupid. Hell, if you just looked at the current PSP2 design, having an UMD drive wouldn't work well at all.
And I'm sorry, but your camparison doesn't work. The DSi *is* a DS, with added features. It just wouldn't work if it didn't support DS games, because IIRC DSi only games are rare as hell. Does the 3DS have to support DS games? Not at all. Did the PSP Go need to support UMD games? Yes, because it IS a PSP. Not supporting UMD was stupid. Does that thought carry on to the PSP2? Not at all.
Besides, you said it: technology changes. Why did the PS3 end up only emulating PS2 games? Because you basically needed a PS2 in your PS3, since the hardware is so different. Point is, if there's a 7 years gap between two systems, it's quite possible the CPU architechture will be completely different. The PSP2 will have to resort to the same kind of emulation, as for as I know. And since emulation isn't perfect and will never be, people WILL complain, not realizing that it's their fault they want their damn system to play PSP games.
Am I dramatizing? Damn right I am. Besides, it's not like I dislike backwards compatibility. If it's there, I'll take it. However, if you have to sacrifice other features to get it, I do not want it.
And I'm done with this. I don't want to begin to call people names, and I have a feeling that's what I'm going to do if I go on any further.

Oh, by the way.
Digital distribution might be the single best way to get backwards compatibility that can span across more than two gens.
Hell, I doubt that's Sony's intention, but that's something they could consider, provided they can make some great emulators.
