Okay, I'll admit before anything else that my Japanese isn't perfect (far from it), so in the end, I'm just guessing, but...
本当にやりますか? - basically, "Do you really want to do that (this)?", I think.
The 'list of monuments' appears to be mostly different ways of saying "Please wait a moment." (I haven't played the game, so I don't know in what context they might have (or are) used.)

Any ideas on what Tetu in his name means?
Tetsu/tetu/てつ = 'iron.' So, it's basically an IronKuribo... or IronGoomba, whichever you prefer.

Yeah, but as far as I recall, Chris won the right to have his name in the room as a prize in a contest... so, wouldn't the original Japanese version of the room say something else? (And therefore, fall under region/localization differences?)
Do the GBA versions of the room (if it's still largely the same) match their Super Famicom/Super Nintendo counterparts? |

Can I request a box for 'unskilled nobody?'
Should a note or mention about translators be added to the front page of the wiki? Not just for Japanese, at that. (Though at least if you fall back on the online translators, they don't seem to mangle the other languages as much as they do Japanese...) |

However, the FDS ROM I have of it doesn't specify which version it is, so SOL there.
If you're still wondering which version it is/was, there was a utility created some years ago called "FDS Spray," which is largely a GoodTools-like verifier for FDS images. There's some other things you can do with it, but I don't remember what.
It may be hard to find these days, but I know they have it at Zophar's Domain.
As for the 'river devil,' it's been ages since I've played Zelda 2, but could that simply be another vague reference to the 'next' castle monster you'd have to fight? (Gah - now I'm going to have to play it. First xkeeper inadvertently makes me want to run through Link's Awakening, again, and now this. )
Did they actually bother lengthening the amount of text in the dialog windows, or just try to fit their translation in the original text's space? |

It was probably not that long before they realized, "Hey, we can change the graphics!"
(Then again, they did have crosses in Sanctuary in LTTP, didn't they? Sure, it's a church, but who's counting?)
I wonder if they received flack for that; Nintendo didn't originally seem that heavy-handed on matters of religion and death in games (IMO). |

Hard to say, really. There are examples on the wiki showing SNES games that were censored (not counting the MK blood debacles), like Lufia 2 and at least one of the Breath of Fire games (there's more than that, I know). Rick commented on the changes to Final Fight in another topic.
I know Castlevania 3 was edited, somewhat (to tone down religious symbolism, etc.) and the Famicom game "Devil World" (or was that "Demon World"? I've played it, and I can't even remember the title.) was supposedly not considered because of the crosses, etc., in the game.
The removal of all the Hitler references in the game that would become Bionic Commando probably counts, too, I guess.
So, if anything, they probably started somewhere in the NES era and let it build in intensity from there. |

Sorry, let the topic slip for a moment, there.
Anyway, I don't suppose it's possible to get a script/text dump from each of the Link no Bouken versions? Maybe it might be worthwhile comparing those against each other, too.
I thought I remembered someone creating a more-accurate translation from the original Japanese games, at some point (I've always wondered - is it difficult to retool an .FDS image into a .NES image?) - but so far, all I've found in searching is a text editor for the US version of the game, and two translation patches derived from the English version.

Hmm... as I work with video on an infrequent basis, 'SAR' automatically makes me think of 'Standard Aspect Ratio' first and foremost. ECD appears to be a type of monitor (all these years, and why haven't I heard of an ECD monitor? ) So, maybe having the monitor connected allowed you to switch into a different aspect ratio, possibly higher resolution... and the blur effect would probably look different between a CRT and a monitor, right?
If the SNES/Super Famicom can detect whether or not it's connected to a monitor, maybe that option (if it was actually implemented) only appeared when it was connected to an ECD monitor. I wonder if there was any reference to it (or at least using it with a monitor) in the Super Famicom version's instruction book.

Attach a small zip archive to the tail end of the image, containing nothing but the Super Mario Bros. 2 smiley face. Then, you can have an image with unused content.
(Actually, I don't remember if that even works with PNGs... GIFs, sure. Maybe JPEGs. But PNG?)
Bugs Bunny? Didn't the image use text from DuckTales, at one time?

Originally posted by Rena DS has the same problem. Especially for the first year or so, games using the touchscreen where buttons would be far more appropriate is quite common. Use the D-pad to steer? No, use the touch screen! Press A to jump? No, touch this little icon!
One particularly bad example, though unofficial, is the DS Action Replay. The interface is completely touchscreen-based. By which I mean there are up, down, and enter buttons on the touchscreen, to navigate the menu on the top screen. Yeah. The buttons don't do anything; you touch the exact same buttons on the screen instead. Oh, Datel...
Hrm. Just try entering text or a code on the thing using the on-screen keyboard/buttons. Fun. Especially when they don't seem to respond right to taps. (And that goes for the final code entry button, too. )
Originally posted by Rena Then too a lot of games implement motion or touch controls, but badly. Like in Twilight Princess, you swing your Wiimote to swing your sword. Yay! But you have no control over speed or direction. Any swing you do results in the exact same slash every time.
They were probably being paranoid about people going overboard while swinging their Wii remote around like a sword and pitching it into a wall or someone else, again.
Originally posted by Rena As for DKC in particular, aside from probably-awkward motion controls where there shouldn't be... I really like the sound of some of those graphic effects. (How long until we see a sunset-silhouette level in an SMW hack? ) The running along the background actually sounds like something out of a Paper Mario game.
Great. Make me imagine Paper Donkey Kong Country, why don't you.

Did anyone ever figure out WHY Microsoft thinks it's still a good idea to have 'hide extensions for known file types' enabled by default? (Or even have it as an option?)
Yes, I'll change that setting, and reset Explorer to details view (although Vista's habit of trying to set view and sorting based upon whatever's in the folder can be annoying... and sometimes, just plugging in a USB drive resets ALL the folders to defaults...). Update, tweak, personalize and install the few thousand other programs I use.

That was me, probably.
Yeah, bsfree.org's listings do take a bit of getting used to (and patience to parse), at times. Here's their Star Ocean 2 codes page: http://www.bsfree.org/?s=1&d=8&g=9381. I notice they've got somewhat extensive item-modifier codes at first glance... does that list include the unused items you're aware of?
The two sites I usually check are bsfree.org, and gshi.org. They may still not have everything, though. I don't think I recall seeing a walk-through-walls code in the BOF3 list, for example. (And I do have BOF3, Star Ocean 2, as well as a PSX GameShark (and Saga Frontier, too , so it'd be interesting to experiment, if I can find the time.)
For Xenogears...
BSFree
GSHI
(just to save you the trouble of running through the system/game listings... )

Everyone probably covered most of my peeves, above. There's always the ads that try to follow you while you're scrolling around a page. Intellitxt ads - pick twenty-five (or more) words at random from a page to turn into hover-over ads, even IF they're "a" or "the." And on another slight variation from the peeves above, the computer-related problem 'answer' sites, that try to get you to sign up/pay for the solution you're looking for... even though you're most likely never going to need to use their site again.

The icon can still be changed before sending it to you, though, as far as I'm aware.
Hmm... as for the misnamed pictures, I know IrfanView usually looks at the image file content, warns you if it has the wrong extension, and offers to rename it for you. Plus, GSpot (and maybe MediaInfo, both usually for video) has some minor support for detecting image file content, if I remember correctly.

Here, the demented weather waited until it was officially Fall to rocket right back up into the 90s. Before that, it was cool and comfortable. (Yeah, I know - at least it's not past 100 like it was a number of days earlier this summer. But still...)

Hmm. I'd wondered about the debug menu in PS4, as I've been hearing about it recently, but haven't been able to find much about it (no GG codes, certainly). I'd have to wonder if any walk through walls or room warp codes exist for PS3, as I haven't really seen any, either.

Thanks. I take it those are for the English version, though? I only have the Mega Drive (physical) version. (I'm still keeping a note of the codes, though.)

That's why I asked for room/map modifier codes, too. (Well, okay, I used the words 'room warp,' but it means the same thing, right? Right?)
Hmm... I know there's an editor for PS3 (Aridia) and an event editor (Luise), both created by the same person - but unfortunately, there's no map editing, yet.
Some relevant (to TCRF) and interesting pages for PS3 on the site, though, like this one. Possibly this page, too, as there's a brief mention and map of the blocked caves.

WnBrowse. Simple text (ASCII plaintext) viewer (a little like Vern Buerg's LIST from the DOS days, for those who remember it). Also has a hex viewing mode, for those who just happen to want to look at the contents of a file in hex mode.
Would RocketDock be considered productive? ;
There's also XMPlay. And VirtualDub and AVIDemux. Oh, and ffdshow for codec/DirectShow filter purposes, too.
Re (or, I'm being too damn lazy to quote multiple posts at the moment ): adding K-Lite to Media Player Classic HomeCinema - Maybe, but MPCHC also already has some built-in filters/codecs. I don't know if clsid, who's worked on both MPCHC and K-Lite (as well as ffdshow), is still contributing to MPCHC.
Re: SwissKnife - as it doesn't apparently work on Vista, anyone know of an alternative?
