That's pretty much all it does. I've run around locations with the code on and that's it. As for Waluigi being in the game, there's no reference to him ever made at all. Perhaps it was a condition? (as in damaged or something)

Recently, two new rooms were opened via AR: one being an actual test room, and the other being an early version of the gallery (Codes are here). There's also a few bits of unused dialogue, and a bunch of leftover images (including the E3 GBHorror). I've found decompressers for LM's filetypes if anyone else would want to look around inside of it.

I run the poorly designed site Luigi's Bigger Mansion. I can't code at all, but would love to see this game torn apart.

On the side note, there's no tool to my knowledge that's able to view the models in LM. I'm very certain there has to be some beta stuff in that area, given how early this game was made. What I'd really love to see if more from the E3 build of the game.

Both of these tools were made by Lunaboy, both of which he released at some point over at EmuTalk (I take no credit whatsoever). EmuTalk is somewhat dead, however, so scouting through there for file links is a pain. These two tools are needed to properly extract the *.szp files:

(r)arc_tools and YazyDec.

Use YazyDec to make the .szp into a .rarc, and use ArcExtract to decompress everything (thakis' rarc tool won't decompress them).

Just so you know, I've already torn through most of the game files (US version), and have posted what I've found on my site under the "disc leftovers" area (I love this game too much for whatever reason. Chances are I may have missed something, but I've found plenty of stuff, too). The only thing I haven't bothered to post yet is that during the last cutscene, I had Dolphin doing a texture dump of everything, and I got a Mario texture not seen in the game at all (but of course, I can't find where it is on my hard drive right now; try it yourself and you should find it).

If there's a model viewer out there, I think that'd be critical to get ahold of to expose more beta stuff.

I actually haven't, and I've got nothing to do for a good chunk of the day.

Another build I've been trying to get is the demo disc from October '01 (a month before the US GC launched). However, that specific demo disc goes for a lot more on eBay and such (considering it's the very first one) and is impossible to get nowadays.

If anyone has that disc, it'd be awesome if you'd look through it.

EDIT: Played around with the test room and noticed something a bit odd.

In the PAL version, there is no fire burning in the main room, Shivers isn't there, and the man from the Floating Whirlindas isn't in the left room. (as compared to the US one; there is no code for the JAP version.)

EDIT2: Lurking about the files [JAP]

Kawano\
...res_acnt.szp Totals screen stuff
...res_cont.szp Controller type select (before training room)
...res_crcl.szp has a black circle image (ad_wipe_0.bti)
...res_hisc.szp numbers from total screen (ending highscore?)
...res_kwnx.szp has a hand image (hand1.bti). Also somewhere else in the game's files (iirc)
...res_save.szp has save-related messages
...res_slct.szp is options menu stuff

The other archives (res_aaa1..2..3..4.. and res_stf1..2..3..4) had nothing that I could look at in terms of readable files.

Map\ - all .bins and such. The .szp's are arenas for boss fights.

Game\
...game.szp is a large directory of stuff
Game\Game\
\kawano\newtime
...E3 GBH interface. (just numbers)
\kt_static
...test.bti is the Daisy image from Mario Tennis (it's next to posters and such that can be torn off the wall with the Poltergust)
Ending\ folder has all of the stuff for the ranking. Plus, three unused Luigi images.

All of this I found in the US version as well.

Just from glancing at it, it appears that it's just the US release in there.

Is there anything else on the demo disc? As in, in the root of the disc/where it would have titles and stuff displayed?

The Mario Sunshine might be worth looking into.

The LM build is slightly larger than the US dump (by ~1MB). Hopefully there's something of interest in here.

DK64 has a reference to the ice key from BK somewhere in the code. Also, in old promo shots of DK's house, DK used to have a shower with Banjo and Kazooie's faces on it.

That's pretty much the only connection that's been made between the two games. SNS was planned for BK, BT, and DK64. What DK64 would gain from it was/is largely unknown.

A few months ago, it wasn't really "poorly designed", but now, 85% of the pics now become red x's. Probably the server where you got the pics is now down or something.

I'm aware of that (see the latest news post), and I'll get around to fixing that once real life gives me time to care about it again. "Theimagehosting.com" went down for some unexplained reason, so now I have to scout around for another free hosting site. If you have ideas, feel free to PM me (I don't want to pollute this topic with such things).

Since no one cares, most popular free image sites have bandwidth limits that'll shut down the images for a bit. A used to have the images up on freewebs, but that resulted in plenty of ads showing up on my site due to the bandwidth increase (which I didn't like). What I'm probably going to end up doing is having another freewebs site as an image hoster and hotlink everything (as freewebs won't "disable" the images like Photobucket and other sites do).

If this is an entirely dumb decision, tell me. Or, if there's popular image sites that won't delete your images after a certain time/disable them due to bandwidth limits (even with an account) and have nice way to organize things, tell me that, too. I honestly haven't checked at all recently for this type of stuff.

The history of LM wasn't really tied at all with Mario 64 2. IIRC, some doll house setting was used on the N64 for a new game, and Luigi was only used to keep it looking like a fresh concept. It evolved into a haunted setting, and was later moved to the Gamecube, and then the tech demo that was at Spaceworld and later the game at E3. There's articles describing it here in the "Documents/Interviews/Articles" section.

Super Mario 128, what seemed to be Nintendo's playground for Mario ideas, is pretty much the closest thing to Mario 64 2 that has ever been referenced. Sunshine was one of the ideas that came out of that, but LM was completely separate.

EDIT: Derp, missed the point of the post. Still, if anyone wants some LM history fun, it's there.

*Earthbound (+ a guidebook in horrible shape from eBay). It isn't that rare, but it sells like crazy.
*Christmas NiGHTS on the Saturn.
*Sonic Adventure: Limited Edition for the Dreamcast
*Zelda Ocarina of Time & Master Quest and the Collector's Edition on the GC.

That's all what I'd consider rare from my collection.

Too add to the possibility of there being more than one test map, I mucked around in Sunshine a few years ago.

Whether or not they're still in there seems less than likely since I didn't come across the models for them.

I used to be in the top 300, but I stopped playing it 24/7. It's a fun game, and it's easy to make your own songs for it (but getting them approved is a different story).

I'm so used to the mouse for my desktop at home that I honestly can't play it well with any other mouse but that one.

MASSIVE BUMP
----
I noticed that the wiki page for LM has been updated with stuff. However, I just made an account so I can't do anything on the wiki just yet.

There's some stuff here (in the "Unused material section") that should be added. Also, I haven't seen those unused ghost images! They seem to be based off of the guys in the Spaceworld clip, who are also found on the image on the Ghost Machine-thing.

Other stuff that is unused on the disc includes a Daisy poster. If I have time to go through the disc again, I'll dig 'em up again.

EDIT: went into my archive on my computer and found it sitting there:

I can't remember the exact directory, but it was where the other posters are. It's labeled as "test.bti" in it.

I've bought a bunch of shirts off of shirt.woot and TeeFury, so I'm usually wearing designs from those. Along with a pair of faded, dark jeans and black shoes, that's me.

I've always used Bunjallo, but it's not updated anymore. It got the job done for quick web surfing. I've never had the official one, as the DS Phat variant is annoying to get.

There's also a test map in Pikmin 2 that you can view with Thakis' viewer (I took pictures and junk for X-Cult, but all that stuff is down now).

Looking through BrĂ¼tal Legend's files, I found two videos that displayed test maps (used for map selection in multiplayer, assumingly, so they're just still frames). There's a lot of references to debug utilities, as well as these (or other) test maps in the text files strewn about. There's also reference to using XBCD to control the game on a dev machine.

The meat of the game is contained in ".~p" files with accompanying ".~h" files (~h files have file paths for stuff to load). However, I have no idea how to open them.

EDIT: There's also videos that play that highlight each faction. however, I don't know where they're played. Either way, Ironheade, Drowning Doom, and the Coil have one. However, there's a third for Lionwhyte's faction. I haven't really delved into multiplayer, but I assumed they're played there, and Lionwhyte isn't playable.

Posted on 07-27-12 02:39:54 AM, in Three Unused Songs in Luigi's Mansion Link
There's already an Action Replay code to have Melody play that song, and it is indeed unused (the song's placement now being at the controller config screen). I guy by the name of Ralf hacked apart LM (even finding an unused monster!) over on GSCentral. On the Luigi's Bigger Mansion boards, my friend Catley has gone through most of everything that I haven't bothered updating to the LBM site yet. You can wade through the topics on the messageboard there if you're interested (I'll get around to updating the main site eventually...).

Ralf did hack out a music code to play whatever song as the main theme, listing all the songs possible in the game, and I don't recall any other than the Melody one being unused (but, it has been awhile). HCS, over on his site, was able to write an application that decompresses the sample archive into stuff you can play in Winamp with the plugin he made. I honestly don't remember too much, but there were some oddball sounds in there (they were less than a second, so chances are I'm wrong ).

That drum beat sounds like something from the training area, I'll say.

The same thing was happening to me, but TCRF has recently decided to stop doing that for some reason (I'm willing to guess it deals with the change in network from my home to university).
