MMORPGs: No. The amount of grinding to get far in the game is insane, and that's just about all you do, besides socialize. (Besides, there's just about never any plot.)
RPGs: Not usually. Example time:
EarthBound: Sometimes. The amount of grinding you need to do is very small, and you can usually get away with not grinding. Mother 3: I don't even need to grind, but I do at one point in the game, just to make it easier. Super Mario RPG: The only spot I "grind" is at the very start before the first boss. (Not Bowser) Chrono Trigger: I don't like grinding, and I don't usually have to. Just about every other RPG: Sometimes. It really depends on if I have to grind, and how much I need to. If I have to grind, I don't mind too much unless it takes a long time. (This is why I have never beaten games like Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy.) If I don't have to grind, then I usually like the RPG.
And just for the record, every RPG that I have ever really liked was a "short" one that really didn't require much grinding. There's only one exception, and that's Tales of Symphonia, a game that doesn't really require grinding, but it's still rather long. (My first play-through took about 90 hours of playtime, including side-quests.) |
