I have the same problem, buy only on level 1-4.
And only if I change one of the sub areas (2&3). Even a brick added/removed and the problem starts.
Ihen I return to area 1 the game stop working with black screens. I have tried to re-ex/import the original areas and then it work fine again.
I can change area 1 with no problem.

I deleted that sprite way-back-when, and the level works fine for me...

Just tried to delete two sprite 280 "unknown Sprite (1-4 and Castles)" in the middle of world 1-4 area 1.
Then edit area 2+3. Still get black screens when I retur to area 1.

Am I missing more?

Yes my 9 years old son makes level design using this greate editor ;-)
And he can't even read/understand much english - of cause I help him, but he can make almost any level designy him self.

I do agree that something could be more userfriendly, but I rather live with less userfriendly and more functions...

Posted on 02-14-10 06:39:30 PM, in If your doors are not working... Link

Im using Treeki and Dirbaio's editor 5.1.

I have looked closely on other levels trying to understand how doors/pipes work.
Im also pretty sure I am doing it right. However often my doors does not work. So for sometime I have just avoided using doors.

However now I run in to the problem again - this time I only moved existing working doors. And they stoped working. I have moved both the door object and the corresponding entrance. I have NOT changed any of the entrance data. I have even tried to put the entrance in the same place infront of the door object. Still It stoped working.

If you have the same problem you should try to check if you really have put the entrance at the same spot. I found that my fault was that I did not place the door object and the entrance at the exact same buttom line. It is hard to see on my monitor because I run it in a high resolution. And objects are moved in "blocks" entrances are moved in pixels. Moving the entrance down using the down arrow in the "Y:" box in the entrance data view helped me.

If a smarter solution exists - please reply :-)

- Try not to make some "ugly" things you do, like:
- Switches in mid-air
- The rotating bullet-bill cannon in mid-air
- Those huge rows of mini goombas
It makes your levels to look kind of "weird"... I dont like it much...

Thanks. However I do not agree on all. ;-)
The original levels contain many brickblocks in mid-air.

The huge rows of mini goombas I think of as a kind of bonus stage. Also I really like the sound and feeling when you run trough them - and I is only used on one small part of one area.

Building from scratch is very time consuming if testet 100%. (my level 1-5 is done from scratch).
But most is just modifyed - thats why I called it "New Harder Modifyed Bros".

W1-5: Camera follow mario.

Thats unintentional... but I belive it is due to the near water object.
But it does looks kind of cool when you got "enemy in pipe" or when mario uses the pipes.

Can you explain more? Maybe you edited the palette for it.

I exported the tileset, changed the palette, and imported it back into the game.

Im not sure how you can edit outside the editor. I did not have the same problem, but I lost the transperent color.
I suggest you export your levels and import in a fresh rom. This way I got the original tileset back.

If you can use the same tileset you can use a new view in area 1.

As the title suggest springboards will power mario to reach his goal.
All of W1 has been wiped and rebuild (not just modified!)
A few new objects have been added.

Grassland walls that you can pass trough:

New Tower with door + strange door:

Barbed wire - works like spikes:

Upsidedown slope:

Tunnel:

Let me know what you think.

Include:
W1-1 (6 springboards)
W1-2 (10 springboards)
W1-3 (7 springboards)
W1-T (18 springboards)
W1-4 (6 springboards)
W1-5 (2 springboards)
W1-A (5 springboards)
W1-C (6 springboards)

Also modifyed: (But really from my other hack).
W2-1
W2-2

New link 25th mar. 2010: (For ROM (E) version!)
The zip contain a exe and bat fil that will make the patch for you.
Just unzip all to a folder, add a clean (E) ROM named "Springboard Power Mario.nds" and run the batch.
(If you dont trust the exe just download a fresh ApplyPPF v3.0 - I guess any other ppf patch tool also will do).

Other PPF patch tools: (Also for Mac/Linux)
http://consolecopyworld.com/psx/psx_ppf.shtml#PPF Patch Engine

W1-1 view 0 and 1:

W1-2:

W1-3:

Think this is the best "hidden" star coins yet. Easy the get when you know how, but hard to figure how.
The strange door take you to W1-1. (Seems to change when other levels are modified so it might take you else where.)

W1-T: (click to watch larger version).

W1-4:

W1-A:

W1-C:

May contain spoiler!: (As a part og my level idear is that the player must solve how to get past some parts).

Posted on 03-01-10 06:26:36 AM, in Connected pipe - I have made a how to: (last edited by frjd at 03-01-10 03:56 PM) Link
Each end og the pipe need a Entrance. Both must have same Connected pipe ID.
Set area 0 in one end and area 1 in the other end.

Make a Path with the same ID as the entrance's "Connected Pipe ID"
Each node on the path must be placed and unknown 6 in the node numbered as below: (Not sure if the node placement is that strict but it works for me).

0 = If pipe entrance is in buttom. (node in right side, just below the pipe, hold shift to adjust the node).
1 = If pipe entrance is to the right. (node just below pipe exit, hold shift to adjust the node).
2 = If pipe entrance is the top. (node 3 block size below pipe exit, inside pipe to the right, hold shift to adjust the node).
3 = If pipe entrance is to the left. (node 1 block size inside pipe exit, below pipe, hold shift to adjust the node).

Image of how I place the node in each pipe:
The path must be connected from one end of the pipe to the other this is just to show the placement.
You can place more nodes on the path if you need, only the first and last need the above unknown 6 number.
World 7-A area 2 is good for more insight information.

Yes that would be nice - but remember that for many of the sprites you can set size, so the editor would need many sizes images...

An perhaps more easy implementation might be just to show the image in the sprite list.
And make the little blue sprite the size you make it (still blue however).
