The video driver nvlddmkm stop responding and recovered successfully.

You do need chipset drivers. You probably don't need the drivers for the onboard graphics, but it's not always possible to install them separately.

According to GPU-Z, your graphics card is using automatic throttling to save power. Is there an option somewhere to disable that? (Or set the power/performance balance to maximum performance?) If successful, you should see the GPU clocks listed in the Sensors tab of GPU-Z matching those in the Graphics Card tab even when your GPU is idle.

Yes, they are the same thing. (The version number doesn't match your GPU-Z screenshot from earlier. You've updated your drivers since then, right?)

Only through the BIOS, and, you know it already, the BIOS has almost nothing about voltages/frequencies.
That sounds about right. Try setting it to the lowest value, if you haven't already, and see if it makes a difference.

Yeah, that sounds like it only affects 3D graphics. It couldn't hurt to try changing it and see if it makes a difference.

Lately it's been mostly x86 assembly, primarily limited to 486 and earlier, because that's where CPU detection is the most interesting. (Finding good errata documentation for those is a pain...)

Also C, C++, Java, 6502 assembly, 68000 assembly, PHP, Python, various shell scripts, a handful of assembly for other CPUs not already mentioned, and probably some I've forgotten.

And QBASIC, because that's pretty cool I guess.

Here's the only interesting thing on my GitHub.

All the games are PAL B. The lockout is simply due to a poor connection, same as the weird graphics.

Super Mario Bros. is one of the handful of games specifically adapted to run at the correct speed on PAL consoles; most games just run slower. Are you sure the games that "work perfectly" aren't also running too fast?

You can easily open the console and check for mods. It should be fairly obvious if anyone has been tampering with it. If you have any doubts, post some pictures. (Maybe post some pictures anyway; it might be interesting to see.)

I've just checked, and the PAL version does indeed have faster music and a failure of a demo. Actual gameplay should be pretty similar.

I'm not sure what to tell you about the cartridge connector; I just ended up buying a replacement for a particularly bad console. (It works so well, the cartridges don't have to be pushed down!)
