Now that I have access to the whole DSiWare shop, I'm wondering if there's anything truly noteworthy that I'm missing out on.

I've got X-Scape, and I have my eye on Shantae 2 and Cave Story, despite having played the latter to death in two different iterations. Anything else worth the effort? D:

I got the game kind of early, and it isn't all that bad. Anyone expecting world-shattering innovation from it -- especially considering that it took 14 years to finish, with several engine changes, several developer changes, and at least one honest-to-god cancellation -- is expecting a bit much. It's like a weird gaming time capsule. A few jokes are horribly, horribly dated, true. But the freaky thing is, those jokes probably serve as decent indication as to what year that section of the game was being worked on. Freaky stuff.

If it's of any help, it's always an educated choice to buy Cave Story. :x I spent my first $20 card on that, Link's Awakening, and Anonymous Notes 1 - From the Abyss-, which is a neat little pseudoroguelike for $2.

Honestly, with how irritating they are over the course of the twoish hours it takes for you to get there? I was cheering. They are the least welcome characters I've ever seen in a video game. I was hoping they'd get killed much earlier, in a much more spectacular fashion. Then again, I interpreted "You're... fucked" in the sense of "you're shit out of luck," because goddamn if I'm helping them. Sad parodies of women, the both of 'em.

I agree with this statement, too. If you do decide to play it, this scene is pretty much the extent of the "humor" found in that sequence. The rest of it is Duke being remorseful/angry at not being able to help the women, insofar as a man whose emotional range goes from "heh heh, dick jokes" to "grrr" can sound remorseful.

That said, I still would've preferred something large to fall on them, Monty Python foot-style. Holy shit, they're annoying.

I love the hell out of this game. It's like an MMO Zelda/Bomberman (yes, bomberman) with a steampunk/robotic setting and -amazing- music. I certainly root for a Jul guild. :x

It'll be more fun than school. Go into it expecting to play a game. This isn't the second coming of Duke. It's barely a first coming. Duke is just sorta breathing heavy.
