the classic way of doing this was either a direct database rewrite (dangerous) or the dumber method of saving copies of layouts and posts as a second text field, with various filters and replacements done on them

then you'd show the "rendered" post (instead of running all the filters as it does now). you'd just have to make sure that everything that updates a post also updates its render

some of this stuff would be a lot easier if things like posts and other board objects were actual objects, since you could just rewrite saving and loading there. as it is you kinda have to just guess


iirc other forums do something like this, and their admin panels would have an option to "rebuild" various fields, including the rendered posts, which you'd have to do if you updated or added filters

i haven't seen too many twine 'games' proper, most of them are only very lightly 'interactive', mostly as a way to control pace and theming

i could rant for a long time about how discord has killed forums and rendered a surprising amount of information just gone, but that's neither here nor there

i assume threading was added mainly for bigger servers who have way too many chatters and way too many channels to have any sort of reasonable discussion without getting lost

that being said discord is apparently charging for the right to have threads that don't time out after 24 hours via nitro, which is just incredible

honestly the best use case i can think of for "threads" as they exist in discord are really just as short-lived, temporary channels, and not a 'thread'

e.g. imagine a tournament going on, you have your "thread" for tournament matters and then your general discussion channel, and when the tournament is over it all gets wrapped back up in the main channel instead of being one of 3810 different 'archived' channels

either that or i'm too stoned

disgaea 6 continues to run in the background with occasional management, now over 500 hours with little to show for it

i was thinking about how just completely unengaging the game is a bit ago. the story isn't great and the gameplay easily turns into "push + to win" with even the slightest bit of effort
