Long and the short of it is it's stupid anyways - these are hands off but the sale of workstations and servers are still fine. That was the whole point I was trying to make.
To me it feels like a knee-jerk reaction to crypto and the graphics cards that are in there.
i mean, on its face, i agree that this is pretty dumb. i'm not sure exactly what the law says or just how egregious alienware's hardware is (probably very given its Gamer Tech™!) but i imagine this is the kind of thing that will be ironed out given how many large computer companies happen to reside in these states
a better idea would be focusing on the actual power draw from households or adding pricing tiers or the like, but california isn't really known for its good lawmaking
