Well, i was looking for a way to excuse myself for having been stupid in some threads, and i've found an idea: why not suggest a new banner?

so i've created a banner for jul, with photoshop.

though i don't expect this to become the jul banner.

here's the thing, but please, don't be too hard, i'm a photoshop beginner and the version 1 is the first image i ever created with photoshop. thank you.

-green brushed metal background, removed discontinuities at each side.
-Jul text using the same pixelated font, but different lighting effects. it's green, with sharp and flat bevel and shadow, for the font to fit more the pixel art theme.
-the mushrooms are the same, but not blurred. they also have flat and sharp shadows, to fit more the pixel art theme, again.

thank you cpubasic13 and others for your advices.

1. Bevel is horrible. Try using something not the default bevel, gradient, and shadow.
2. When resizing things in Photoshop and they are normally pixelated, they won't stretch right unless you alter the original image size using the nearest neighbor setting. As they are they are blurry when they shouldn't be.
3. That just wouldn't work for the Jul banner.

well, i'm not against criticism, but, for example, suppose that:
1. you've spent time making a drawing you think beautiful
2. you post it on Jul (or elsewhere)
3. somebody tells you that your drawing is horrible
would you appreciate it?

I did NOT badmouth it. I gave constructive criticism and you took it as me being a dick. The default setting in Photoshop for text are HORRIBLE. Also those mushrooms should be pixelated, NOT STRETCHED AND BLURRED!

You act as if I have never messed with Photoshop before when, in fact, I have. Many MANY times. I know exactly what I am talking about.

Jul is using the default settings for bevel, gradient, and drop shadow. Not to mention it uses FixedSys set to smooth antialiasing, completely destroying the purpose of the font.
The mushroom should have been resized properly to avoid anti-aliasing. As they are they don't look good. Not to mention the same drop shadow is there.
Background is nothing more than noise followed by a motion blur filter.

THIS is constructive criticism.

I um... I think the banner looks a little happy. It could use a little EXTRA work though. I wouldn't say it's horrible though. Fix it up and make it cute. :3

what do you mean by "not stretched" ? and also this is meant to produce a "vintage" effect.

I was thinking it'd look better witout the anti-aliasing. I mean, it'd be more "too the point" if you will, if the mushrooms were just like they were in the NES games (albiet recolored)

uh? cpubasic13 had the same idea, making the shrooms not blurred, but he told "not pixelated and not blurred".
well, i could do it, but, without antialiasing, they'll look pixelated. i don't understand how exactly cpubasic13 would like them to look.
