I'm neally done on my 1st SM64 hack but all i need is one backround swap. However, all the notes that say how to do it are not helping me. I need a full tutortorial on how to swap backrounds using Toad's Tool 64.

One thing that messiaen left out in his original list is the fact that sub areas can have different background settings. Most of the time though, the sub-areas have no background (The exception is Tiny Huge Island, where area 2 has the same bg as area 1).

Areas that have no background still have a 0x19 command in the level geo layout script, but the last four bytes are set to "00000000" instead of "802763D4", and the one byte parameter before that is set to "01", except in the case of Tick Tock Clock, that has "FF" as a parameter for some reason. My list also include the ROM address of the related 0x19 command for each area, so you can find it easily if you want to change it.

Edit: fixed the 0x0A banks addresses.

Pretty good. Yet there's three problems:
- If you start with 0 stars the wing cap will be unavalable.
- If you jump inside the pipe, you'll be invisible.
- The game crashes when you collect the star.

Still good though

With this data, it'll be easier to write a guide.

Doh! you're right, the addresses had nothing to do with texture banks. I used the pointer to a table of texture bank numbers to get the bank addresses instead of the bank numbers in the table itself (as referred by this pointer). I'm sure I'm the only one understanding this explanation but anyway it was a stupid mistake, it's fixed now (hopefully).

Well, I think I get it. You took the location of the data instead of the data itself. Or, something along those lines. I think. (Keep in mind, to me most of these values are gibberish, so a lot of my understanding is actually guesswork. )

When you complete it, there isn't much to do, so i might as well leave it.

A guy on youtube did a similar thing with shy guys. He is 50X better than me at hacking and his crahes when the str is collected.
