So if I hear someone breaking into my apartment, that would give me the chance/time to grab my gun (if I had one). That is the scenario that I am thinking of for the most part. Sorry, but the instant that I hear someone trying to get in, I would feel more comfortable defending myself with a gun instead of a knife, sword or a dagger (all three that I do have).

And you can't say that you will never have the option to use a gun. Like I said, if I hear someone breaking in, and if I had a gun, I would use it. Sorry, but I'm not going to hide under my bed and prey that they don't find me and that they will leave me alone if they do.
