Now you can classify yourself. The way I see it, if you can't sleep, for a long period of time, even when you're tired, you have a problem. I have a friend of mine who was like that for a long time.

Insomnia
General insomnia is a classification of sleep disorders in which a person has trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking up too early. These disorders may also be defined by an overall poor quality of sleep.

I used to have problems sleeping, sometimes I still do, but that's only because it has to be totally quiet for me to fall asleep. I can't even sleep with the TV on...I have to pause whatever I am watching and then fall asleep.

Behavioral insomnia of childhood
This disorder occurs when children don't go to bed on time unless a parent or guardian enforces a bedtime. If the children are made to go to bed at a specified time, then they tend to fall asleep at a normal hour. If they are not given strict bedtimes, then they may linger awake for hours at night.

Hmmm... so that's why I had to go to bed at 9pm. Course, I never did and I stayed in my room listening to my (back then) tape player.

Idiopathic insomnia
Idiopathic insomnia is a lifelong sleep disorder that starts during infancy or childhood and continues into adulthood. This insomnia cannot be explained by other causes. It is not a result of any of the following.
• Other sleep disorders
• Medical problems
• Psychiatric disorders
• Stressful events
• Medication use
• Other behaviors
It may result from an imbalance in your body, such as an overactive awakening system and/or an underactive sleep system, but the true cause of this disorder is still unclear.

So pretty much this covers if you simply can't sleep....

Insomnia due to drug or substance
This type of insomnia is directly related to the use of any of the following substances.
• Medication
• Caffeine
• Alcohol
• A food item

Alcohol, lately, has made me sleepy after a while.

Insomnia due to medical condition
This type of insomnia is caused by another medical condition. It results in one or more of these problems.
• Difficulty falling asleep
• Waking often during the night
• An inability to return to sleep
• Worry about poor quality of sleep

I used to wake up due to my asthma, but since I've been taking a monthly shot, I've had zero problems with that.

((I skipped a few))

Psychophysiological insomnia
This insomnia is associated with excessive worrying, specifically focused on not being able to sleep. This insomnia may begin suddenly following an event or develop slowly over many years.

People with this sleep disorder worry too much about their insomnia and about being tired the next day. As a result they learn to become tense and anxious as bedtime approaches. They may have racing thoughts that all relate to insomnia and trying to fall asleep. As they worry about falling asleep, they become more and more tense, which makes it less likely that they will be able to fall asleep.

This tension and worrying about sleep increases through the night, setting up a cycle for ongoing insomnia. Even a simple bedtime routine may be a cue that causes tension to worsen. In fact, people with this insomnia may sleep better away from home. Focused and excessive worrying about sleep is the hallmark of this form of insomnia.

I don't worry about sleep, but I do worry about the BS/drama going on and that sometimes doesn't allow me to sleep when I want to.

It is both the cause and the cure, in my case. If I was sleeping four or five hours without my medication, I would definitely be more tired than I am now. But the only reason I'm not getting more sleep is the medication.

I want to go back to sleeping for ten hours.

I've never had any problems sleeping, but there are times when I can't sleep because I don't want to.

I've been having quite a few problems, really.

For the most part, I'm usually awake during the night, but I've almost always been able to fix my schedule, and adapt to normal hours. But, as I am right now, I haven't been able to do that for over a month.

Ever since I started working, I can't seem to get more than four hours of sleep per session. Once I wake up, I feel completely charged, but slowly tire a few hours later; at which point, I go back to sleep. During my second sleep session, it can range from another four hours, to a full eight. Rather strange, really.

I think my sleeping problems may be connected to the fact I work and get off late, so I'm still wired despite being tired, so I don't sleep long. But, hell if I know for sure.

I don't require sleep, only sitting in my chair and staring at the monitor and refreshing the page every 5 seconds is necessary.

Insomnia
Behavioral insomnia of childhood
These seems to apply, or have applied, to me. Either I can't fall asleep when someone tells me to, when I tell myself to, or just plain can't fall asleep.

Psychophysiological insomnia
I worry a lot at night, so I guess this applies to me. Usually not about sleeping, though, just about the way my life has gone.

I have no Insomnia. I have to at least get 6 or more hours of sleep or I am going to feel dead later. I also have no problem falling asleep to get such sleep.
