Since there's no Officer's Club, I'll post this here.

Since it's late, and I'm tired, I'm going to post the tl;dr version.

I used to love drawing. But, as I tried too hard to force improvement, I lost sight of what was really important: having fun, and not trying to be better than many people. In frustrated anguish, I deleted my dA gallery, since no one really paid any attention to it.
I've lost sight of why I even draw. I want to continue to draw, but I still feel as though no one really gives a shit about me or my work. Not only does this decrease my motivation for art, but it lowers my opinion about my own work, and myself as a whole.

Please; give me advice. Give me guidance. Help me rekindle my love for art.

Been through the same thing, more or less.

Feedback is something I found I need, but I need both positive and negative feedback. Too much negative feedback and I think I'm hopeless. Too much positive feedback and I don't improve. I don't give myself a "pat on the back" for the things I do right, but I take to heart everyone's criticism. Now I'm so focused on getting art "right" that I don't even enjoy it.

Worse than that, I'm stuck in a particular style and I'm not growing as an artist, just trying to improve the same bloody style.

Draw troll art. It's so stupid and mindlessly offensive you don't care if it's good or not -- you can have fun with it.

What Shadic said. Just go out and find something that looks like it would be fun to draw and draw it. Don't try to render it perfectly or get the shading right or make it worthy of entering an art competition, just draw. Doodle if you have to.

And don't worry if it feels like nobody cares about your work. Working to get noticed isn't fun. If you just draw for fun, people will notice eventually.

Hope that helps. :<

We all get this in one form or another, in my case it's life. I feel noone cares that I exist and all kinds of stupidity but I'm not going to go fucking stop living. Keep doing what you like to do. Do you think Penny Arcade or Fanboy$ were big when they started? Fuck no, they sucked. Make a goal, go for it, and only give up when forced to.

Hence why I rarely ask for opinions on things I draw.
When I feel like quitting, I draw something random/stupid (I drew a page full of Mudkips and faces because I was bored, and couldn't think of anything to draw)

You don't have to draw stupid things like I do, but you don't have to care about opinions.

And sometimes just something comepletely random will give you a flash of inspiration. (ask xpCynic about the metroid wearing a top hat)

As the others said. You don't need other people's opinions to have fun drawing.

My advice is to realize that you should be doing something you enjoy doing, not something you want attention for.

I do a lot of work on pointless things because it's something I enjoy doing, so even when nobody cares (and makes it a point to emphasize nobody will care), it's still something I can do.

...

Getting critism is another problem entirely, and not something I can offer help on.

I can.

Make sure you ask for only constructive criticism. It doesn't matter if it's negative or positive, as long as they tell you what you could improve on.

If they say something vague like "I don't like it" ask why, If they say they like it, ask them what you could improve on.

I like to draw, not to get attention or any feedback (I rarely get either), but because I think it's fun. Usually when I'm bored (read: whenever I'm at school), I take a piece of paper and fill it with random doodles, usually random characters drawn in many different styles (some of which are bizarre). This pretty much never gets old, as there's like... near-infinite combinations of strange characters and strange drawing styles.

My suggestion to you is to take a piece of paper, a pencil, turn on music or something (to not only focus on the drawing), forget the fact that you have a drawing style and just draw something in one style, then draw something else in some other style, repeat until paper is filled. Just... draw without caring about any restrictions or anything. Drawing should be free, not limited. If it looks like crap, let it look like crap and try something else.

Free yourself from the boundaries you have created for yourself.

Also, don't be restricted by reality. It doesn't have to look real (if you're doodling and spend more than a few minutes on an image, you're overdoing it). Ignore proportions. In fact, what you draw doesn't have to be real either. If you feel like drawing a person who's nose is a bottle opener, don't reject it just because it's not real.

...I honestly lol'd.

When I draw, I don't particularly care whether it looks shitty or not. Most of the time I just draw random shapes even, sometimes 3-dimensional, sometimes not. This is the result of me drawing some random triangle one time, and it just ballooned into a pyramid. One of my best Saturdays ever, drawing that... Took me about an hour, but I actually had quite a bit of fun turning a random crappy triangle into that.

...And then, like Smallhacker said, realism isn't always the way to go. As long as you've had fun drawing, it's what counts. Some ideas may even make others laugh (positively), too... like the one I quoted above. (I so want to see that now. )

...Oh my GOD, I just made a long post. WHAT'S HAPPENING TO ME.

Honestly, I used to be like that with a lot of projects.

I don't really have an answer on why I do my own projects past 'it alleviates boredom, it's something I somewhat enjoy and people kinda sorta like it regardless of low attention and high boost to own ego for them liking it if and only if they see it and speak on it'.

Writing, simming, whatever...it boils down to that. Anymore I'm pressed for time to do any of that because it flat out doesn't pay the bills. Can't be as passionate as you once were when there are other priorities zooming through your brain.

Yeah, do what VL-Tone did when TT64 made him really down. Just take a break for a while, doing whatever you do normally.
