Bah. Yahoo was what I grew up using. If they sell out to Microsoft I'll have to settle for a blank page as my homepage.

Because while I approve of it harming Google, Yahoo is too sacred a thing to me to be usable after Microsoft taints it.

Of course, Yahoo's bad management did get it here, but that's their fault.

Well, Youtube was bought by Google, but it remained pretty much the same.

But, who knows? Maybe Microsoft will try to make it "Better" and screw it up. Microsoft's idea of better is... meh.

This actually doesn't come as a surprise to me considering that Yahoo! just got done laying off a bunch of workers and isn't getting nearly as much business as they used to as of late.

I used to use Yahoo Mail, until they "upgraded" to a fancy Javascript-based system that only worked in IE.

Microsoft offers to buy Yahoo...

And Yahoo! declines.

It seems like Yahoo! is considering a partnership with Google, except they know that antitrust regulators would never go for it.

Makes me wonder...considering the Google outshines it and has for a long time and it's been getting worse and worse...how long does Yahoo! have left before it gives up the ghost?

Unless they pull something out of their ass like they haven't been for a while now, I don't think they'd win without a partnership.

I think you're underestimating Yahoo... they're a distant second in search, but that still means they're doing better than everyone else but Google- and Yahoo Mail is still the largest email provider despite the existence of Gmail...

*Guy54123 glares disapprovingly at Hotmail

I've had a Hotmail account since 1996 or 1997, before Microsoft bought them out and turned it into "Windows Live Hotmail" (uuuuuuuugh). Sure, I get less spam, but I also get less of everything I signed up for. I haven't seen a couple newsletters in months, maybe years now.

And let's not forget the old, free LinkExchange and FastCounter services, which were bought out and then closed to the public (they were merged into bCentral, which was then turned into "Microsoft Small Business Center"). It really bugs me when companies do that...

You get less spam? I stopped using Hotmail when I started getting spam from Hotmail.

This is the reason I never used hotmail. When you start getting spam from the email service itself, that's when you leave and never look back.

apart from teh ~bi-weekly spam form WLM< I've only ever gotten 2 spam messages (something about viagra ). Since then, nothing, and I don't have that much problem hitting 'junk' for one message every two weeks

Gmail's spam filter is pretty top-notch, so I never have to hit "mark as spam" on any messages.

I'm mostly indifferent towards either one as a search service but I prefer google because it's pages are lighter overall. Less and lighter ads, few pictures, mostly just text.

Yeah, exactly.

Whenever I go to Yahoo!, it's usually "data overload"; it's impossible to find anything because they tried to cram EVERYTHING onto one page.

Even the Yahoo! Games layout is rediculous; most of their games are only on subpages now, instead of the top 5 being listed right there... and of course, the front page is now dedicated to Popcap-like pay-to-play-the-game shit.

This, rampant bot spamming garbage on Y!Games, and even the random crap I constantly get though Y!M... I'd really like to see them go away and get rebuilt.
