Not possible. Sonic, Jigglypuff, Ness, and the unnamed Pokemon that might be Lucario are not there, yet there are only 2 spots for characters to be unlocked.
EDIT: I am stupid, that's not a full-screen photo, there's space on the sides. Although, the photo still shows us a picture where Sonic is not a starting character, despite the fact that he's on the website.

What says that the roster cannot change? I says there are space for 8 characters on the sides of the roster, since it is not the full scren photo and only partial.

Sonic and Snake aren't starting characters. Corocoro confirmed this a little while back.

I dunno, something about the way the shadows of the character icons falls doesn't look right to me. I can't put my figner exactly on it but something about them seems off. I'm skeptical about it being the real one.

I still don't see why there's so much obsession over the starting roster/characters...

Is it really that hard to just wait?

There's also the possibility that--call me crazy if you want--the character icons can become smaller as you unlock more characters.

I believe that's a real screenie. It's good to see the Random option right off the bat, instead of unlocking it like you did in Melee... or switching yourself to CPU for a random character like in the N64 game.

The only way I know of to do it is to select the blank spot either to the left of Pichu or to the right of Roy. Ignoring the "Ditto" character you can select in tournament mode.

I'm torn. I'm wanting to see the character list, but I'm wanting it to be a surprise, too... Oh well.

Not quite. They added the spaces on the outside. Luigi, however, switches places with Pikachu once you unlock him, putting Pikachu in the group of Pokemon on the bottom row of unlockables and having Luigi between Mario and... Bowser, I think it is?

On the topic of the video...

Shortfuse of SWF just contacted me and pointed out something very interesting. Here's what he had to say:

I started the "Japanese Forums" thread almost 3 weeks ago. It got some attention and was pretty popular. Gimpyfish grew interested in the way the SWF community was involved in this project of checking Japanese sites. He went to talk to a few friends who are major smash players in Japan. What happened later (and he announced on the SMYN podcast) is that he said he obtained some link to some great sites including what he though to be the Japanese Smashboards. It turned out it wasn't and the rest of the sites where just simple tournament sites. I didn't pay much attention to them. Gimpy did say since one of his friends would likely get the game early, since he hosts Melee tournaments. One of the tournament sites is http://ketubato.com . Interesting enough, this video surfaced: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VxrQiCz4_o

What's the correlation? Well, look at the user who uploaded the video. It's queensaki. Who is queensaki? It's none other than the webmaster of ketubato.com. What am I getting at? Yes, Gimpy's friend who he said was going to have Brawl early...who hosts tournaments is the one who uploaded the Brawl video to youtube. Yes guys, it's real.

I agree very much with what he said, and it looks like this video is indeed real, using the logic explained above. I'll let you be your own judge on the matter.


I'd say, it's safe to say this is real.

The Manaphy move sounds pretty interesting. I would love to see people get very confused about who they're controlling .

The starting roster looks pretty interesting. I think that the other characters will appear next to the starting ones, like it did on Melee.
