I can't get my extended rom to work with an emulator

My question is quite simple, i hope someone can help me out

I downloaded Toad's Tools, the extender and the text wrangler.
After that i got my hands on the M64 1.0 USA Rom.

When i had everything that seemed needed i extended the rom with
the rom extender, and after that i opened it in toad's tool and directly,
without changing anything tried to run it both in daedalus & project64.

It didn't work in any of the emulators .
I hope someone can tell me what i need to do in order for it to work.

Accually if you read thru what i said i didn't edit the file, i just extended it, opened it in toad's tools and tried to run the rom.

Immidiately Project64 pops up and tells me that "Attempt to open file failed."
I even tried to extend the rom and run it directly afterwards, without opening it in toad's tool... gave me the same error.

The file is named "Super Mario 64 (U) [!].v64" and it should be the 1.0 version of the rom. I did try to run the rom without extending it before hand, and that worked perfectly fine.

Try a different ROM, that one could be a bad dump or something.

After all, the people that make ROMs just want it to run in an emulator, they don't care if it's extended or not.

Yeah i'm looking for the rom atm, hard to find other places to get it though.
