Umm there were not 25 individual movesets in SSBM: Dr. Mario = Mario, Roy = Marth, Falco = Fox, Ganondorf = C. Falcon, Pichu = Pikachu, Y. Link = Link, am I missing any? That puts the moveset # at 19, and I think there might be 1 more character copy pair, not sure.

Amazing. Seems like it would obviously be more effective in larger brawls... Do I sense a good tournament character? (If they allow smash balls, which they probably wont )

So, do you think the creatures will change with the stage, or always remain Bulborbs?


Probably Bulborbs, because I can't imagine what deadly creatures would be lurking around Smashville... except Tom Nook.

I think the tournament rules are lousy. If you have to get rid of the parts of the game that make it fun, why bother in the first place. The "No Items" rule is bullshit in my mind. If you're the best Smasher, shouldn't you be able to formulate strategies on how to incorporate or avoid items? Same thing goes for Smash Balls.

The whole point of Smash Bros is to have the kooky components to to. Thats what differs it from all the rest of the fighting games.

That all said, Olimar's FS looks pretty good, though I wonder if that's just the angle of the screen or if that's really how it looks when you play. I don't like how you can't see anything other than a couple enemies.

This is in a completely different direction, but the typical tournament rules idea got me thinking...

Some people pwn. Some people will make you feel the RAWK. Foaming at the mouth, glowing red eyes, vampire-like fangs... you get the picture. Harder than hardcore, everyone's their biznitch, etc. etc.

I'm not one of the people. No matter the game I'm playing, I play to have fun. I specifically do not play to win. If I win, that's fine. If I lose, that's fine. What matters to me is if it's fun for everyone involved. Smash Bros. gives you a vast assortment of ways to have fun. Like Mewtwo ducking to the rhythm in Mushroom Kingdom II... I can't be left alone for three seconds without starting to dance.

If I'm better than my opponent(s), then I pull back on the proficiency and introduce the appropriate level of goofiness. I don't want the other person to feel like their efforts are useless and not have any fun. I want them to enjoy the game as I do, and therefore adapt the playing environment to something everyone can be a part of. If they happen to get in a good shot and win, so be it.

It irritates me to no end when onlookers see me performing solo, and tell me how much I suck because of how much I get beat up while beating up the CPU. What's the problem with taking some damage? It's not like a bomb's gonna go off. No sense in being the best man, especially proving it to a computer.

I do this in all games, not just Smash Bros. As such, I'm never a good pick for a tournament. I don't have fun in laying the smack-down. To me, that's unfun.

Anyone else share these sentiments, or am I the proverbial odd man out?

My brother is one of those NO ITEMS FALCO ONLY FINAL DESTINATION people, so sometimes I have to be serious to not get raped into the ground. Other times, I use my sillyness to lighten the mood so he'll ease up.

...I've only played my 9-year old nephew (who I haven't played since his moving away 5 months ago) and a friend that prefers WWII gaming. (Wouldn't tough either CoD4 or SMG) Needless to say, my Melee experience with other gamers is...VERY low.

Brawl will be a savior in SO many ways right now...

I like to play for fun, but usually seriousness seeps into the mix. And I'm a FALCO FINAL DESTINATION person, although I'm good with nearly every character. I prefer the fast characters with stringable combos

I only use items about half the time now. In the past, I always used items, so I guess I'm a little tired of them. :/
Ignoring that, I'm really nothing like a tournament player. My main is Luigi, but I can use any character well. I play on every stage, and I like to goof around when fighting. (Mainly because I can pull it off and still win, as the only thing that I can't win easily at is three level 9s on a team against me)

I have almost no experience playing other people, but that will change with Brawl. (As soon as I start playing it online )

That basically describes me, except that I continue to use items if possible and can sort of take on three level 9s. So until someone unlocks Luigi, I use Kirby. I personally do better with Luigi though .

I could care less about the tournaments, I play for fun!

I utterly and completely agree with your entire post. Games are for fun. Yes they can be used for serious competition or for deciding whose dong is bigger, but fun is the ORIGINAL design in mind. Too much kookiness and zaniness and overall wackyness is in the Super Smash games to just literally turn them off. Playing with no items? Whaa?
Only use certain characters on certain levels?? blasphemy..

I play with alot of people who are "lesser skilled" than me. By no means does that mean, they or myself are/is having less fun.

Sometimes, my brother and me compromise about items. We turn off all the items, but leave the spawn rate on very high, meaning barrels and stuff still spawn. Since they have like a 25% chance of exploding, it's like playing Russian Roullete with dynamite.


Sometimes nothing can beat an all out item melee, though.
