I've been taking some basic classes on learning how to make jewelry for the last few months. I've always liked jewelry, and kind of.. playing at making things, but I never really knew how to go about making things look.. somewhat professional, or whatever. I started taking an active interest in learning more once I took a class or two, and started getting a few books and such. For the first couple of months, I just took the basic patterns I was learning and recreated them with different beads and whatnot. I've been getting a bit more creative now that I've started going out to shops to look for materials, rather than just using what I have lying around already.

I just thought I'd share a couple of things I've made that I've managed to get (half-decent) pictures of. The card in my camera died, and I haven't thought to get a new one any time I've been out. These were taken with my boyfriend's iPhone, and it doesn't have a zoom feature, or flash (that I've found, at least), so they're not great pictures, but you can at least see the general.. thing, if nothing else. :p


Bracelet
I made this for my mom for Christmas. I made earrings to go with it (forgot to take a picture of them, though), and I'm working on a necklace as well (you can see the focal piece for it at the top, middle-ish of the picture). The green and black stone is called Kambaba Jasper. :3 I used a mix of matte (black) and silver-lined (avocado or somesuch) beads for the basic shape. My mom was really excited about it (she loves green, loves beads, and loves it when I make her things. XD), so it was fun to make and give to her. ^^ It's easy to get really attached to things I make, but when I plan something out specifically with that person in mind, it makes it easier to give away when it's finished. heheh

Earrings
These were the first thing I made where I didn't really follow any kind of pattern (other than basic 'this is how you make an earwire' instructions). I'm happy with how they turned out, and I wear them quite a bit. :3 The cylindrical stone is Leopardskin Jasper, and the shiny things (hard to make out in that picture. ) on either end and on the ear-wire are Swarovski crystals.


I'll probably add to this once I get I get a new memory card for my camera. Hm. Maybe I should venture out into an after-Christmas sale after all...

So, I found out that I can actually take pictures without a card in my camera. Not many, but yeah. :x I plan on taking more when I have a better light source (book light just doesn't cut it); probably tomorrow. But in the meantime, I'm impatient and these aren't bad, so! .. Yus.

I tried to get some light on them to show how much the crystals sparkle, but didn't really have much luck. Ah well, at least you can actually see them in these.


New bracelet I've (slowly) been working on:

I'm still not quite sure how this will turn out. I'm hoping the frost on the seed beads (the little wee ones) will balance the sparkle of the crystals. I like the colours a lot; I just worry that'll end up being .. 'too much' or something. I dunno, I think I'm paranoid about a piece of jewelry until it's done. .. And sometimes even after it's done, but.. yeah. :x


A couple of other random things:
Bracelet from a basic pattern. And a closeup for kicks.

Ornament Drape (on an ornament). The lights in the kitchen make it look yellowy, but.. yus. :x

I also tried to take a picture of another drape thing, but when I tried to get a clearer one, this was the result. My kitten likes shiny things. :3;;

The earrings are gorgeous!
I'm not a big fan of bracelets, but the basic one has a very crisp look to it.
I used to do this sort of crafting with my little sister, but then her favorite bracelet broke and she never wanted to craft again :s

I don't actually like wearing bracelets all that much, but they're fun to make. Whenever I wear a bracelet, it always ends up in my pocket, or bag, or whatever. It's kind of a shame, but they just .. bug me. So far, making earrings is the most fun, I think. Which I suppose makes sense, since I like to wear them. lol. I have some trouble with necklace designs, though; I don't have problems following someone else's directions for them, but making up my own is hard. D:

You should ask your sister how she'd feel about fixing her bracelet, or making a new one, or something. *shrug* I think I'd miss it if I stopped, now. I know I get frustrated for a while when something doesn't work, and usually need a break for a while, but I'm not sure I could ever.. stop entirely. heh. So you never know, she might miss it? I dunno. :p
