I really dislike your level design, they seem to hard to me and in your actual bullet bill level the "Jump on bullet bills to cross pipes" techniques repeats which is a huge minus. However, it's your hack and when you like it then I can't do anything. To fix the piranha stem, apply the Classic Piranha Plant Fix patch and change with a hex editor the offset x101D7 to 0A.

Eh, the repitition... Yeah, that's kind of an issue, but at least it's only throughout the first half of the level. The second half gives you Shell Bros. and Lakitu to worry about, not so much the Bullet Bills. Either way, I agree that that's not my best level, or anywhere close to it for that matter... I still think the desert one ranks pretty high up there; it's a tough score to beat, if you catch my meaning.

Thanks for the offset.

P.S. Also, I don't mind your criticism at all; just because I like the hack a certain way gives me no excuse to design it poorly. But please tell me, for curiosity's sake: What do you have against hard levels?

Meh, Hypercam (or any other screen recorder) isn't usually the best choice when making SNES Rom videos. Snes9x has a built in record AVI function that records sound fabulously, though it sometimes is a pain to reduce it's size and filetype in Windows Movie Maker. Also, some say the emulation lags when recording (it doesn't for me

) and it is mute while recording. What I do is record a snes9x vid (which has full speed/sound), then play back the recording while recording AVI.

(Is think I used to many words with "record" in it. Heh.)

Heh, you mean Bubble Bobble. Also, I see what you mean about the deeper part being lighter - I should probably change it to a pure shade of black.

Dr. Mario: Wow - that looks very pretty. I like the spacey style of it and the planets. I also like how all of the FG GFX seem to have a dark "shadow" around them in front of the fence. Looks spooky and great.

Meh. Either way, whoever used them first, they're from the forest stage of Bubble Bobble, and they are in the ExGFX section.

In another note, I don't usually post my conversions, but I know a lot of people have played and love Cave Story, along with the music. I recently took it upon myself to try the game, and yes, it is fucking amazing. So amazing, in fact, I tried my hand at converting Sand Zone. It turned out super well with SMW's instruments:

S.N.N. Thanks, the title for the level is the Celestial Garden, hence the starts and planets. I'm probably going to make different stars though, I don't like those ones.

darklink, it's for a Castlevania 3 hack. The whole thing is going to take place inside and around of Dracula's castle, so I'm trying my best to include some interesting outside areas also.

(to SNN) WOW, that's excellent music! Please, I beg you, do the other Cave Story levels! Grasstown and Eyes of Flame are my top two requests.

(to Dr. Mario) That tileset sample is fantastic. You seem like a pro at NES hacking. But is your level design good? If so, it compliments your graphical expertise, meaning I hold you in high regard.

(to Golden Yoshi) The screen is pretty nice, and the Black Yoshi is to die for, but the screen is missing something. Maybe put a hole in the background wall somewhere above that Shyguy-filled gap? Detail is win. (BTW, are you making ALL the Yoshis different colors? You totally should.)

(to everyone) Finally I have another level done. Well, it's a half level, rather. I used the existing Green Hill ExGfx in conjunction with other graphics from another Game Gear sonic game that I ripped by hand (which was easy to do this time, yay). I think I'm missing something here, and I think I know what it is too: HDMA fading in the background. I'm waiting until all the levels are finished to add HDMA, though, 'cause it's tough to add.

That screen is pretty much to demonstrate the theme of the level. There may not be an incredible amount of detail in that one area, but there is in plenty of other spaces not pictured, so yeah.

Here is an example of a good amount of detail in one area...

And no, I'm not making all the Yoshis different colors. That is not necessary and would take too much unnecessary extra work that would divert me from my current progress. And I haven't done the custom Yoshi colors in this hack, Mattrizzle has done that. Making all-new Yoshi colors would mean the following...
-Finding the right palettes for each new Yoshi color. I can't even think of 8 new colors other than the ones already implemented in the game

.
-Also editing the Yoshi colors on the intro scene, they use a separate palette.
-Editing the Yoshi colors on the map screen as well.

So, what I'm saying is, no. Sorry.

Besides, I think this hack has enough little innovations here and there to do without completely new Yoshi colors (i.e. Secret levels, custom level icons, more that you'll find out when you play...)

Hmm... You sounded very defensive just then. Just to clarify, I think your hack is great, and was just trying to suggest something that I thought would improve it. It's what we do, right? If a hacker can't take criticism, he can't reach his full potential...

Not saying you can't, of course, but you... did sound pretty defensive.

Maybe I'm tired. It's 7:00 in the morning and I haven't fallen asleep yet. I've been staying up all night working on an ASM bit for my hack... There's this block that you hit, and if you have 175 coins, it takes those coins from Mario and sets the On/Off switch to Off (which makes a bridge appear and makes Palette 7 a lighter shade), shakes the screen and plays a Boss Defeated fanfare. Wheeee!

Edit: Okay, I have another level to show you. It's the Ghost House in World 3. The graphics are ripped right from Wario Land II, and I think they turned out deliciously.

This level has it ALL-- scrolling walls, Boo ceiling, AND crushing logs. I didn't show you guys the alternate exit though... (Don't worry, it activates the same path on the Overworld-- the difference is that you can skip the Log part and you get a free random mushroom; either regular, 1up or poison, thanks to a custom block).
