There's still time!

I got a house. It's good, though pretty far away. About 900 sqft, honestly I think it's the ideal size for a house. Obviously, I didn't afford it all on my own, I'm still living with my (transphobic and diagnosed bipolar) mom, but hey, few living expenses makes up for it.

I'm hoping this will result in more independent forums making a return. Reddit had been declining in quality for so long but old habits die hard, a big shake might be just what we needed to take the internet back from the mega-platforms.

There's a bunch of "federating" options (lemmy, etc.) but who knows if their networks are cesspools or not

I don't think we'll see a major return to old style forums barring stellar mobile support because that's just where a lot of people use the internet now, and similarly long-form text that takes more than a few moments to type out doesn't do well on mobile.

Yeah the touch interface of most phones doesn't lend well to typing long messages and such; it's possible (and somewhat easier with gesture typing) but it's certainly more of a chore than simply using a computer with a keyboard

I'd love to get a phone with a keyboard (like the Astro Slide 5G) and believe that dual touch/keyboard phones should be more commonplace, but I'm very doubtful they'll be anything more than a niche

Personally, I just want a feature phone that offers a Wi-Fi hotspot, or a laptop with cellular service. That way I can use it on a train ride or at a restaurant if I need to work or want to post there. But yeah, mobile phones aren't designed with people typing in mind. Which is odd, considering more people text (or send IMs) than they do call these days.

Hey! Congrats on graduating! It honestly feels like "the start of the rest of your life" (at least for me it has) since life seems pretty different when you're done with your studies and start to settle down.
