It just hit me. We have 24 confirmed characters, and we have a story mode that has already been confirmed to unlock more. How the fuck long is Subspace Emissary, assuming that every character has a part in it?

Just going on a hunch here, but I seem to be under the impression that Subspace Emissary is some kind of chapters-based dealie. It's not just a short gauntlet of different events like the Melee Adventure mode. It's a stoy in itself; a fully-fleshed single-player adventure. Might not take days and days to complete, but I'm certainly hoping upwards of two hours.

I would put my guess around 10 hours tops, but a lot of it depends on how fleshed out it is. If a lot of scenes repeat, then it might be less.

Keep in mind that even the first one is a branching event (save either A or B, not both). But a lot of it depends if the next (and subsequent scenes) are different depending on which was saved.

Obviously, there won't be much point in replaying it if every scene was the same every playthrough.

Considering the adventure is a means of unlocking characters, stages, trophies, etc... I don't see it lasting a huge amount of time. At least I hope not. Sakurai's a smart guy; he's well aware that some people care about unlocking new characters instead of enjoying story content. It's what Smash Bros. has been all about up to this point, after all. I'm farily confident he allowed all kinds of players to enjoy the game in their own ways.

It might be a lot like Meteos, where there are several ways to finish the game, but each one reveals a different ending/story sequence.

Each playthough in Meteos took roughtly 30 minutes or so depending on how you played. An hour per playthough might make sense for Brawl.

I think you've struck gold there, Sgraff. I noticed the resemblence to Falcon's pose right off the bat, but I completely forgot that he hasn't been announced yet. Since that particular pose is so identifiable, it's very likely intended to be a clue to Falcon's presence in the game.

I too noticed right off the bat but I decided not to mention anything until I had good enough of evidence. That seems good enough if you'd ask me.

EDIT: It is possible that all of them are based off characters that are being introduced.

Now THERE'S a character out of left field. :O I would have thought that Pikmin would be locks for Assist Trophies but geez... that'll be interesting.

If I had to guess... every character we've seen that isn't selectable is likely unlocked through Subspace Emissary. Odds are that the others could be unlocked through that or through other modes (maybe 1-2 in Event?). And I bet there's a Mewtwo-style unlock for someone (X number of matches or X amount of time) too.

I'd guess 36 or 40 characters at this rate. :\ Add some returning characters that haven't been shown yet and a handful of new ones and that should fit on the final character select screen.

I've been guessing ~40 characters for years now, even before Brawl was announced, knowing that a new one would have to come. Looks like I'm going to be right.

The better question actually is how many stages are going to be in the game? ~40 characters, 1-2 stages per series, plus a couple with 3 or no stages, could equal anywhere between 50-90 stages.
