And makes it run less hot, too! SSDs + new thermal paste should drastically extend the life of a computer. If it's a laptop, it extends battery life too by maybe up to half an hour. I have this dumb plan to make Donatello last 24 hours on a full charge, and having that CF card in there is part of it.
Anything with an IDE connection, so theoretically most PCs since 1986 that doesn't use SCSI could have an SSD in there. ____________________ ![]() |

I enjoy inefficient, stupid chains of adaptation like that. And towers of power, those are cool too. I should throw one in Oddball for the secondary IDE connection.

| On my current computer, I have a 500GB Seagate HDD for Windows 10, and a 500GB WD Blue SSD for games. If I were to build a new computer or upgrade the hard drives, I'd use 2 1TB NVMe WD Blacks, one for the OS while the other can be used for cache or games. I'd still keep the WD Blue just in case something goes wrong. ____________________ ![]() ![]() |

I recently acquired approximately 190TB of used hard disks.
I have no idea what I'm going to do with all of them. ____________________ 守るためなら |

Currently I've got a 1TB nvme and a 1TB hybrid drive in my main machine, a cheap 120 or so GB SSD in my laptop, and a 1 TB SSD on my old desktop which I use for Jellyfin. I just ordered a refurbished 4TB external drive that I'll probably keep connected to the old desktop most of the time.Originally posted by Joe God, that's the dream... ____________________ Knowing that there are no victorious causes, I have a liking for lost causes: they require an uncontaminated soul, equal to its defeat as to its temporary victories. |
