i've been playing around with the idea of maybe using Winamp as my main media player. winamp shows me idv3 tags in its media library thinger. due to this, i've had to think about IDv3 tags, which i almost never set or look at ever, and, uh,

I've been using Winamp as my main media player for almost two decades now, mostly because it is the only media player I've found that has even a remotely usable library.

I was talking to someone on Mastodon recently who was investigating ID3 tags and here's what I learned: The Genre tag in ID3v1 is an an 8 bit value with some predefined labels. I've noticed this phenomenon as well and the only answer I can think of is that Psychobilly just happens to be 0x00.

Actually, this got me curious so I looked it up and that's not the case. I guess someone is really just running around tagging a bunch of music as psychobilly. đŸ€·â€â™€ïž

Google says Winamp is doing it, whenever it writes an ID3v1 tag and the genre isn't already there.

ID3v1 sucks though so I'd disable ID3v1 writing in Winamp and use something like mp3tag to strip all ID3v1 tags from the files.

Kinda gotten better, hope to carry that forward or something... I think involuntarily sleeping for ~14 hours from yesterday into today (tho as so often recently, with interruptions) has helped at least in part, tho I do need to take care not to ruin my sleep schedule again. 10:15 pm now, so I should try to sleep soon, even if it's Sunday tomorrow. Hope things are getting better for you too, nym.
