I finally got this new layout to work. While the style elements were made eons ago by somebody else (whose website stuff I 'inherited') I had to reorgnize and recode a lot of it to get it to work here on Acmlm's. It may be a bit of a space hog, but I blame the length of the URLs for the images (I have few reliable hosts that hotlink .gifs) and of course it does a couple fancy things in CSS. I spent a lot of time cutting out junk though.

(Space-eating images obliterated; new issue: White border on bars, bottom bar not sticking to the bottom. Would like more precise control on header text.)

Kill the big huge POST and SIGNATURE, as I do not think they are needed when the layout makes it a bit obvious.

Also the colors could use a bit of work. Over all it looks... nice.

Edit: The stats would look a bit better on the left hand side... meh

Your name is Tobias? SLEEPINESS MEANS SPENDING EXTRA TIME DOUBLE READING EVERYTHING SO YOU DON'T SOUND LIKE A MORON.

Uh .......
It looks kind of half-broken. The table borders are off by a pixel (either padding or some other error), and unless you fix it somehow I'll probably take a look at it soon...

I think it looks somewhat nice. The specific colour could use a little tuning, but the layout is pleasant and well-laid-out. What Dd said about the large POST/SIGNATURE text is right, however. If I were you, I'd remove the line break below the signature and add it above it, or some sort of separating mark.

Heh. The odd thing is that whatever is causing the one-pixel off thing is unique to whatever coding is on this board; it doesn't happen on mine.

That said, I'll save a copy of how the board shows it here and try to figure out what's causing it.

And I'll fiddle around with the other suggestions while I'm at it.

Additionally, Xk, if it offends you I can revert it to the other small one rather easily.

Edit: Figured out what was wrong, at least in the case where only the left one is broken. Made some flaw in that code there as opposed to in the main table. Transposing the main table's code into there fixes the weird holes and such.

It turned out to be a margin thing, indeed. Some extra code crushes the margins back to where they should be.

Edit edit edit: Fixed it around. Comments now? *Squashes strangely big title*

Edit again: Hm. This is taking up way too much space. Makes me wish CSS3 would come out, as the biggest issue is with the borders. Perhaps I can nuke those and simply color the table's borders instead.

Edit: Nuked the borders. Went from #1 in layout space eating to one character below Hyperhacker's. Yeah, sure, these borders aren't as pretty--the code without the image borders also happens to take up at least half the space.

Billionth Edit: I'll leave it as is for the rest of today and spend tomorrow mopping up residual bits of code that are messy. With luck, I can probably send it down further in size while keeping the overall effect.

*HyperHacker goes to delete 2 characters from his layout
Nah, just joking. But anyway, it looks decent. A few minor things stand out though. The text in the bars at the top is a bit close to the top of the bars themselves, and could probably stand to be a bit smaller. Also, those bars seem to have an odd white border. The stat box at the left might look nicer if it stayed at the top, or better just integrate the info into your sig or something (bottom bar?) so it's not taking up all that space at the left in longer posts. Finally, I'd say darken the background colours a smidgen.

The bars look pretty neat.

I managed to revive the neat looking borders, without pictures! All I had to do was crush four tables atop one another

I plan to continue tweaking it over time.

New fix: Bottom bar actually stays at the bottom!

Edit Another: Tweaked the text in the top bars so they aren't being so high up and hitting the edge. Of course, I must use whatever sub-3000 character layout control space I have very carefully now... while it'd be nice to move this text so it isn't so stuck in the center and spaced out, and perhaps make the text in the bars a bit smaller, it might break the bank, so to speak.

New Problem: Can't seem to make it fill the entire post cell when I make short posts.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
