I haven't seen any fridges just up for disposal on any street I've walked by so far. Usually I see broken CRT TVs/Monitors and broken beds (and other wood-based furniture). I don't think this is as common over here actually, usually if there IS something on the streets up for disposal, it's already broken beyond repair. If it isn't, other people in similar (or worse) situations are quick to grab it and take it home.
People around here tend to not want to throw things away and fix (or 'klutch-fix') things until they're so broken that it's not worth repairing anymore. Widespread poverty kinda forces people to attach themselves to whatever they can get...
