I'm having a lot of trouble if this video of a reporter getttting struck by lightning is real:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mYze899Drvg

I don't know where this is located, other than it's in Eastern Europe (Estonia, maybe?). The reporter is conducting an interview with somebody, and there is a cross shaped monument in the background. We first see lightning hitting the cross, and the camera zooms in right after the strike to see if it can pick up any damage. It zooms back out, and we see the reporter stick his microphone high up into the air. The lightning then hits the mic, and the camera fritzes out, and finally, we get a slow motion replay of the last few frames.

This video has me very suspicious because

1- Why would there be an interview being conducted outside in the middle of a thunderstorm?

2- There are no TV station logos visible on the mic or anywhere else

3 - there is something a bit 'off' about the first strike, but I can't put my finger on it.

4- Why would the reporter stick the microphone high in the air right after a CG strike in the immediate area. This one can probally be dismissed as him being in shock and confusion after the first strike.

When the video ends, everything looks right when the reporter is struck, including the ground being lit up super bright.

So I don''t know what is going on here, as none of the copies on Youtube describe exactly where this took place, what date, or what the interview was about. The comments are useless too, as there is just "It's FAKE!!1!" moronic replie to this video. Maybe if somebody understands the language they are speaaking, they can translate it to English so at least a Google search on this can be performed to verify it's authenticity.

If this is fake, it was likely done for a TV commercial, but the parts that would identify it as such are missing.

So, is it real or not?

i don't claim to be an expert on lightning, but:

it strikes the cross and not the taller metal lightpole nearby
going frame by frame, the bolt hits the cross for a few frames, dissappears for a couple frames, reappears, then as it fades over the next few frames you can see every frame shows the bolt in a different position. this isn't now lightning behaves naturally, if you look up slomo videos, they form a shape as they grow towards their destination, and then once it reaches a suitable ground, it may vary in intensity as it discharges but the position doesn't change.
and then it strikes the mic of the reporter who's standing directly under a tree as shown in the zoomout to show him getting struck?

i'd call it fake without much hesitation

as for the language, this definitely sounds like some sort of Uralic language to me, so probably Estonian or Finnish (i'm leaning towards Estonian)

Lightning does not always 'follow the rules'. I saw lightning hit a car that was parked only a few feet from a 3 story building.

going frame by frame, the bolt hits the cross for a few frames, dissappears for a couple frames, reappears, then as it fades over the next few frames you can see every frame shows the bolt in a different position. this isn't now lightning behaves naturally,

Yeah, I thought it looked dodgy, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Thanks for pointing this out.

The last (second strike) makes me wonder because when they do the frame-by-frame, the ground is lit up exactly as I would expect in this kind of situation (I've seen countless lightning strike videos), and the sputtering out seems realistic enough. Yes, this too might be questionable, but we are dealing with lightning here, and most of the current likely burned through the microphone cable's insulation to discharge into ground, and the camera didn't bear the full brunt of it. Lightning is one of those things that seems good at defying hard science.

Now that I know where this was filmed, I did a Google search trying to find any incidents like in this video, but so far it's coming up empty. So I am going to go with this being a fake.

Scince this is most likely fake, I am wondering what this was filmed for. TV commercial? Some kind of comedy show? Lightning safety PSA? Insurance ad?

Fake.

No question in my mind. Everything about it appears blatantly performed. The camera work looks like every UFO and ghost video ever. The thunder sound effect is ridiculously inconsistent with real life weather.

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
