We're well aware 3DS games are region locked. So it intrigued me that on my US system, Sega 3D Fukkoku Archives 3 Final Stage (for instance) is identified in English as 'Sega 3D Classics Collection 2'. Is this normal, or visible anywhere without hacking? A Japanese 3DS has no OS language setting.

The name itself is semi-official, being used for the game's Miiverse community.

As far as I'm aware, those titles are not visible without hacking, since I believe a 3DS flat out rejects an out of region cartridge without even showing its banner and title? I might be wrong about that, tho; don't have any 3DS imports yet.

Oh, and as for another example, Etrian Odyssey 5's Japanese version [or the Japanese demo at least] has the English subtitle "Beyond the Legends" in its header data, while the final English release was called "Beyond the Myth".

You'll find that the alternate language title data is used for Streetpass.

It's how I discovered the "Beyond the Legends" title in the first place because my US Region 3DS streetpassed my Jpn Region 3DS.

This is correct. I've tried it with a US DSi-only cart and it failed to recognise it. Worked fine with CFW.
