Have any of you had much success getting -other- people to convert off twitter? Seems extremely difficult IME, even for people who know they hate it.

My interaction with tumblr is a lot more positive -- people just reblog film screenshots, fashion stuff, and music there and I can pick over it at my leisure. Admittedly that's after xkit and a ton of adblock too...

Yeah people on twitter and discord are probably the most stubborn, it's really difficult for them to move from what there used to it seems

The main problem with people leaving Twitter (or anywhere else) is just that you get tied into that feedback loop really easily. All of your friends are there and if you disconnect from it you lose contact with most or all of them... there're other reasons, too, but I've said those before.

I never much liked Tumblr; it's basically Twitter but with longer posts. If you follow the wrong person (or just someone who posts a lot) you can quickly find everything utterly buried under immense white noise posts.

It's alright for some things, but for general usage it's just not very good. (Not to mention that some of the people on Tumblr are... pretty awful.)

Twitter, like many things owned by for-profit corporations, is an irredeemable dumpster fire. They do not give one single crap about their end users, and are only focused on whatever Hot New Thing will maximize shareholder value and satisfy the other corporations and celebrities that use the service as an advertising platform. I've ranted about this repeatedly (on my own Twitter account, lol) but at this point it really is just shouting into the void.

People keep pushing me to ditch Twitter and use Mastodon instead (and I probably should), but

sums it up pretty well.

See that's why you need to convince more folks to move with you.

one of us, one of us, one of us

Also Tumblr is shit and awful without xkit which means that it's inherently a broken site not worth the energy to maintain an account on. w

The whole "in case you missed so and so's tweet" isn't a notification, that's pure annoyance. Moreover, the whole "x liked this post from y" (y being someone who you don't even follow at all) is also not a notification. I wish Twitter would scrap this awful system but it seems like it's here to stay.

Fuck, this sounds nice. My entire Twitter timeline is just people slowly sinking into a bog of misery and loathing. Hardly anyone even retweets cute/cool art anymore. It's lame as piss.

Yeah it's getting pathetic at this point and I heard Twitter are faking likes to Donald Trump too

The main problem with twitter as I see it is that it favors the snappy, instant consumption posts above longer more elaborate ones. It's too fast as some here have mentioned. Too much at the same time. Your brain skips longer content because you get accustomed from finding that little gem that takes 5 seconds to consume rather than reading a longer thread/text.

As someone who's been using forums for a long time, twitter et al, just feels like it's a very unsafe and toxic machine that doesn't build up it's users but rather tries to get them to consume as much content as possible. Unlike on forums where things are arranged into threads, chronologically and usually the users have a common interest, demographic or hobbies, twitter seems like a machine of chaos where you can't choose what you see when you look for things, you can't avoid certain hyper-popular personalities and the thing always nudges you into looking at things that the algorithm might think will engage you.

Sure you can trim your feed and endeavor to make it immaculate, but a stray like by someone else can put truly upsetting content on your timeline, it's a mess and twitter knows it and they know it drives engagement to get people to see things that upset them. Almost nobody calls out a decent meal as decent, they're happy in silence. A bad meal however? Man that's a story to be told! If you understand my metaphor.

As have been mentioned before, a forum has more permanence than social media as well, letting you have the thoughts about a certain subject percolate for a while instead of hurrying to get into the thread while it's still hot.

There's this one social media for younger folks, named Amino, I think that's the future of social media, because unlike tumblr and twitter, there's actually 'groups' wherein people share and interact about a certain subject, and it seems a lot healthier than the aimless tide that's exemplary of most social media these days.

Mentioning groups, I'm been around long enough to remember when groups and actually sorting things by chronological order rather than your supposed best interests or indulgment rate were popular on things like FB and YT.

It probably has dropped in usage quite a bit since it's "glory" days, but considering I mostly use it to follow a few friends (who just reblog shitposts) and a few japanese blogs (who just blog cute anime girls) it fits my need quite a bit.

It might help that I am a huge lurker on practically every site I go to as well, I'm on tumblr to laugh at dumb jokes and see cute stuff, and it fills that purpose quite well for me.

Tumblr feels like it's the best of what Twitter and Facebook is objectively best at (not necessarily what gives them the most in terms of profit). It gives a chronological account of posts your followers are making, and usually they're either shitposts or art or political posts that, if nothing else, are more curated than the ones that float around and infect everyone's FB/Twitter feed with how factually wrong they can get. Tumblr has its problems with it, sure (especially after 4chan/8chan vowed to infect the site, so to speak), but there's a greater ability in Tumblr's interface to refer to outside resources on claims and such.

Although I should probably take a look into xkit, because as good as Tumblr is for the most part (in comparison), it wouldn't hurt to have some additional control (though I did see something our own Sofi posted once in a sidebar on Tumblr at one point, iirc; have to figure out exactly what xkit does)

if they keep up with this they'll get the goddamn opposite

THIS.

also, bullshit on the reason. I get those regardless of how active I am. unless their desired level of activity is being constantly hooked in.

also, they try to censor you, or something. I once tweeted calling Twitter out about it, and later on the tweet disappeared.

The alt attribute should be used to give a short description
of an image; longer descriptions should be given with the
longdesc attribute which takes a URL linked to the description.
These measures are needed for people using non-graphical browsers.

For further advice on how to make your pages accessible
see http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL.
You are recommended to use CSS to specify the font and
properties such as its size and color. This will reduce
the size of HTML files and make them easier to maintain
compared with using <FONT> elements.

You are recommended to use CSS to control line wrapping.
Use "white-space: nowrap" to inhibit wrapping in place
of inserting <NOBR>...</NOBR> into the markup.
